This was a money dump. They didn't want to pay 4.5 million for a 3rd CB. Same thing that happened with Hood.

yup... didn't understand that then, don't understand it now. We're not up against the cap and even though McFadden wasn't good, he would have been a solid nickle back, as opposed to Adams/Brown who are just AWFUL.

And Toler hasn't even proven he can play yet.

I just don't get how this team didn't learn from last year's CB depth problems. Again, I understand Toler was going to start, but there is ZERO talent behind him and he's unproven as well.

a head scratcher for sure.

Hes obviously proven it to this coaching staff. Thats really all that matters.

even if that's the case... and I don't know how it could be after just one game of sustained playing time... but haven't Brown/Adams proven they CAN'T play? It's those two guys being our depth which scares the piss out of me more than Toler.

Sitting back and re-evaluating, it's not a horrendous trade. The Cards were thought to release McFad earlier and they still have a 6th round pick that they had anyway and they got Skelton in the 5th. The problem is there is no one on the roster to play CB other than DRC and Toler.

Brown is not under contract.

Some of you guys need to calm down, good god. You think Whiz and the FO just shipped off McFadden on a whim with no plan in place? McFadden SUCKED in coverage, he is not good in man coverage and we tend to run quite a bit of it. He succeeded in pitt playing zone with a fierce pass rush helping him out. Obviously the staff has confidence in Toler to be our #2, we will either draft or sign someone to add some depth. Wait and see what the team does before you hit the PAAAAAAANICCCCCCCCC button.

I'm with you Cheese. I don't understand this move at all. Maybe if they had picked up a CB on the first 2 days this might make sense. Right now we just took a step back for a total project that won't see the field for at least 3 years.

I like Toler, but as a starter this fast. Wow.

Still need to sign a guy to compete to start & add depth

Maybe this will stop the practice of bringing in Steeler has-beens.

Look for Faneca to sign tomorrow :D.

Its a good thing that DRC has proven that he isnt injury prone. If we were going to do this, why wasn't a corner taken in the third?

I like Dre Bly, he played well for SF last year. Best of all, he gave up 0 TD's.

I've always enjoyed Whiz' plans to have depth built in as he did in drafting Schofield Knowing he'll be on IR all next year but the value of that guy gives us room for losses or cuts a year away.Whiz is always planning one move ahead.

Just because I don't see it yet does'nt mean he has the answers for Toler starting from game one to having "QUALITY" CB;s for CB depth. We NEED a Quality Nickleback on this team for more than just injury reasons too.DRC might prove to be injury prone when he gets too close to making a tackle.

I'm a big Adams fan and hope he improves but come-on we STILL have'nt picked our replacement for Hayes yet.His back is toast.

As we speak Dockett is at McFadden's football camp for kids in Florida.

There's a conversation I'd like to listen in on.

Yeah, that.

I kinda felt that McFadden collected his big paycheck, decided he was the man, and he played halfheartedly from that point on. With his salary, McF was getting dropped or traded -- and, this way, it looks like the Cards swapped a sixth rounder for a fifth.

BTW, I like this pick. I thought Skelton would be gone mid-3 to early 4. He can throw a ton and his accuracy is improving. Developmental, sure, but he's the first QB Whiz has drafted and I have hopes.

Damn - we also gave up the better of the 6th round picks (our original)
well the Steelers weren't going to just give their 5th for 6th. You throw in the 5 mill for McFadden's salary and the Steelers probably wouldn't have taken him for a 5th straight up either.

I wouldn't say that at all. McFadden was a leader for the D last year and though his play may not have been great, he didn't slack a bit and gave total effort IMO. He was like a third safety in run defense. I see him as a press corner, like Graves and Co. like to bring in. the problem is that we never let our CBs press.

after considering this trade for the past hour, I AM MORE PISSED!? Its not like McFadden was terrible and trading him for this AND a Draft pick is called getting fleeced and now our thin depth at the position is horrendous... FCOL!
