I hated seeing Hood go last year because while not great I thought he was pretty solid. I really don't think it will be difficult for the Cards to replace McFadden's "production" and I'm sure they can do it for a fraction of the cost.

I will without a doubt be difficult to replace a CB who only gave up 2 TD's in the regular season and kept QB's to a 86 QB rating throwing to his man.

This just like Hood was without a doubt a salary dump. Both players were going to be 3rd CB's and both players were going to make 5 mill. Hood left and played great for the Titans as the 3rd CB, McFadden will do the same. All because we didn't want to pay 5 mill to a backup, which I am actually fine with if there is a plan to have that 3rd CB spot replaced. Pitt was kicking themselves all year because they let him go and their CB talent showed, they wanted him back and are currently trying to give him an extension. McFadden last two games in the playoffs is the only reason for everyone disdain for him, because the regular season was without a doubt a good season. But people only remember the last thing they saw a player do and I myself know he looked horrid in the last two games giving up 5 TD's, but he also was no longer playing in a cover 3 D because of injuries. McFadden excels in zone (anyone who said he is a press CB is way off base) because he is so smart and which receiver to release and which one to pick up which is the trade mark of the cover 3. Where he struggles is man coverage, coverage that Donnie Henderson may be trying to bring to the Bill Davis Scheme, coverage I might add is more suited for DRC (who is pretty dumb in zone coverage) and Toler.

Now we have to hope Toler is ready to step up with out any competition to push him at all. Hope Adams leg extension surgery went well, Hope DRC never get injured, hope McBride who is Adams midget cousin who has only played a total of less then 400 snaps in 3 years total is better anyone thinks, or hope they can trade for or find another FA on the market of which is slim pickings if Dry Bly is your best bet. Our Pass rush better be killer and Rhodes better be not just a better coverage S then Rolle but a far better coverage S then Rolle.

Maybe the 3rd round pick of a WR wasn't that good after all, but hopefully they have something up their sleeve for CB depth because right now there isn't a sane person alive who should not be greatly afraid of it right now.

I will wait to judge the overall viability of this until I see what the depth chart looks like when training camp starts because I got to believe they have something to add to that group by then, they just have to.

I will say this though, Cards have been uber aggressive. Weird.

I am not exactly happy about the trade but when are people going to start to get it? This is EXACTLY like last year with Hood. Yes it would be nice to keep all 3 CB's. But the Cardinals are not going to pay 4.5 million to a nickel corner. Its just not going to happen.

Its a lot easier to say lets just waste 5 million bucks when its not YOUR 5 million bucks.

I am assuming a cheaper option with nearly the same skill will be brought in. Lets chillllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

So, so true and head right on the nail for that observation.

In both cases, Hood an McFadden, we attempted to grab someone's nickel corner and turn him into a starter here. Good thought... that simply didn't work out, and then we are stuck with a guy who, at best, is a complimentary back making starter $$$. The draft seems to be the smart way to go.

I was among those who was excited about his signing. So, I agree with your prediction. However, I was merely pointing out that I, for one, started to realize that McFadden seemed to be a liability....

The thing that disappointed me most about McFadden was that I had hoped he would bring better tackling and more physical play with him from Pittsburgh. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The Cards tackling was just as poor as in prior years.

It has to be contagious or something.

Dockett should be happy though; more money on the table for him... He needs to realize that if he wants to hit the huge payday, the cards are going to have to clear some space and that means getting rid of some of his friends.

What frustrated me was that despite the obvious demand for CB's in this draft, we decided to take a WR in the 3rd round and an OLB who might not play this year in the 4th. 9 WR's were taken before the Cardinals took Roberts at 88. Of those 9, only 4 were taken before the 77th pick. In the 11 picks from the 77th to the 88th, 5 WR's were taken. 10 CB's were taken before we took Roberts, and only 4 of those 10 were taken in the 3rd round, and none going after the 67th pick. So, the trend was that there was a break on the run of corners, but when 5 WR's were then taken, we panicked and took a WR. We ended a run on WR's when we should have been starting another run on CB's. Only 8 wide receiver were taken after the Cardinals took Roberts and before the 6th round. In comparison, 14 CB's were taken in that same span. 5 wide receivers were taken between the 88th pick and the 130th pick, while 6 CB's were taken. So even with selecting Roberts, the trend is obvious that CB's are still at a value. So what do we do? We take a OLB who might spend 2010 on injured reserve and watch 5 more CB's come off the board prior to us trading up to select a 3rd string, developmental QB. Now in the 6th round, the CB position is depleted, and so we reach and take a CB who didn't play in 2009.

Frustrating.

I understand the frustration, but................

1. McFadden WAS terrible.
2. The Cardinals (Whiz included), obviously believe they can replace McFadden.

they believed they could replace Hood... and were wrong, leaving us with Adams out there to be torched.

just out of curiosity, have you ever disagreed privately or publicly with something the Cardinals have done? I seriously can't remember one instance in which you voiced any kind of displeasure with any kind of move they've ever made.

You're right. No delusions of adequacy here. ;)

Post of the day for me based solely on the amount of homework you had to do to put it altogether.Congrats.

I too wanted a few other things to happen in the 4 final rounds.I'm of the belief we DID need to pick a very talented WR.Was hoping for Shipley who went just before we picked our new WR.I am not bitter after seeing our new WR can be our new returnman, giving Breaston timeto focus on just being our #2 reciever.
I'm glad Roberts has accumulated many receptions over his small college career as did an Issac Bruce at Memphis.Plus he is highly rated as a returnman and shipley would worry me trying to be an NFL returnman.Roberts is faster and can be our new slotman and knows how to catch and what to do once he makes them.
Yes we are now very thin at CB and also in my opinion still at ILB as a run stopping team with our Shiny new NT up front allowing who to flow to the ball and make the tackle.I want Lenon & Hayes as BACKUPS to start for us this year.Hate we missed out on picking up kirk Morrison who would have led the team in tackles behind Williams and our front big guys.
Maybe Coach Lott can add 15lbs of muscle to our Highly rated Washington so he can start for us and pick up some tackling experience in the NFL.(We could of had Lee so I hope washington really pans out BIGTIME.)Plus can pick up his pass coverage duties also.
We still need a team leading 245+ THUMPER to replace Hayes and his super delicate back.Tired of watching WR's run over Hayes.
