Who is our shooting guard? Raja Bell? Ew.. We seriously need a great scoring 2 guard to go with Nash and Stoudemire.

I just don't know if we can afford it, or work a trade like that. Barbosa is a nice penetrating guard, but he's not consistant enough against premier defenders (dirty players.. Ahem) and it cost us.

I still say we could have traded Barbosa and Marion plus picks for Kobe, but I don't want to start the trade junk again. Kobe is a 2 guard in our system right?

I bet Mike would put Kobe at PF or something. :)

I'm happy with Bell and Barbosa at the two. I think having a real point guard behind Nash and a shot blocker are more important things.

Barbosa is a nice penetrating guard, but he's not consistant enough when he's playing injured. When he's not injured he leads the league in 3-pt. shooting percentage

Fixed that for you.

He was injured? Was he injured before the San Antonio series? . Well, he's still got no middle jumper game. But my way of thinking is we got Point Guard and Power Forward. Just need a shooting guard. I really wished we woulda got Ray Allen.

so we get ray allen and then who guards ginobili? ray allen's defense is comparable to that of steve nash

Who cares if Allen can actually score?

If you want a Dallas Mavericks type season next year then keep going with that mindset. We need defense to win it all. We have the highest scoring and most efficient offense in the league right now and if we get Hill to replace Jones we will look even better as he can actually create for himself. We don't NEED to improve there.

So we want another 3 point shooter that can play D?

There are not many of those in the league. We probably have a better chance of developing the offense of one our young draft picks.

Barbosa was injured midway through the Lakers series and went back to Brazil for surgery when the season ended. He was beating the Lakers single-handedly before the injury.

Ray plays decent defense.

Ray makes the occasional play on defense, but he doesn't actually play defense on a possession-by-possession occurrence.

It's sort of like Barkley chasing down a breakaway and blocking the shot from behind and people forgetting the 5 times Barkley gambled recklessly in the post one-on-one and gave up layups in the same game.

I was under the impression the 2 guard was the last of our worries.

We have bell, a 1st team all defender who lead the league in 3 pts made, and barbosa, who had 18 ppg and won 6th man of the year.

Did I miss something? What happened to needing another big, getting a replacement SF for jones, and our biggest need at a true backup pg.

Did my nap last a whole season and I completely missed our two SGs leaving???

I'm not worried about SG or even the 1-3 positions:

SG: Bell, Barbosa, Diaw (assuming the Team could add a F/C and he would only ever get spot minutes there), Tucker, Banks, Strawberry, Piatkowski

PG: Nash, Barbosa, Banks, Diaw (wouldn't really want many minutes here either but 2 people go down, etc.) Strawberry

SF: Marion, Bell, Diaw, Tucker, Strawberry (spot minutes), Piatkowski

Here's where I worry:

Center: Stoudemire, Diaw, Thomas, Marks
PF: Diaw, Stoudemire, Marion, Thomas

IMO the Suns biggest need is not at SG. I think Raja and LB can play the SG position just fine, however, the Suns could certainly use a combo guard to help with minutes, match-ups and defense. I'm hoping one of the Suns new rookies can give some help this year in the back-court. I do realize it's a lot to ask of a rookie but the Suns don't seem to have much choice.

However, if the Suns got a backup PG (which I feel is their greatest need), LB would not have to play both guard positions and I think his arm length makes up for his relative lack of height at SG. I don't know what his wingspan is, but he certainly appears to have very long arms.

Also a veteran big would not hurt. :)

Raja Bell is one of the few players on this team that I consider untouchable. He has a decent salary, is an excellent defender, and can hit the outside shot. As somebody else said, we need an interior defensive presence to go along with Amare.

When the System gets shut down by Bowen like in the Spurs series, other personell moves are of no apparent significance, unless the person whose 40 min. inepitude to score one-on-one over players 6 inches smaller made that SYSTEM shutdown possible is traded!

WTH? Since when is Raja a liability on this team? Are you freaking kidding me? That is the one position on this team we don't have to worry about. He plays defense and is the very type of hard noses player that adds toughness to this team. Subtracting Raja makes this team weaker not tougher.

I would love to have some guy that can score in buckets a la Ray Allen but not at the expense of toughness and weakness. Not to mention less defense. No thanks.

I’m still of the opinion that primary reason we were unable to defeat the Spurs is because we didn’t have a reliable third scoring option. Just about everyone but Nash and STAT’s numbers decreased (everyone’s did because the scoring was lower but Nash and STAT mostly maintained their relative scoring effectiveness). I would love to see a good wing player such as a good SF to help stretch the floor and create dilemmas for opposing defenses. He needs to be able to create his own offense off the dribble and hopefully have a descent 3pt shot.

In a perfect world where every one sings “Kumbaya”, and “We are the World”, Kobe would be awesome as our starting 3 but god only knows how well he’d be able to play as a second fiddle to Nash (this is Nash's team) and sharing the spotlight as the primary scoring option. In some ways, in a perfect world, I would actually prefer Kobe to KG (blasphemy!), but I think for chemistry KG is the best piece to “lock” in a ring. Neither, unfortunately, look likely to be wearing purple and orange next season.

This is some of the worst basketball 'analysis' I've seen on these boards. No team can have an All Star at every position, but the Suns are lucky enough to have THREE All Stars starting for them AND an All Defense 1st teamer, find me another team in that lucky situation.

This year is going to come down to mostly internal improvement (guys like Banks, LB, Diaw, Amare), since the management has said after Hill they are probably done.

We need a rebound machine and a SF. Anything more would be wishful thinking.

the suns need a center or a rugged PF..

If you can suggest somebody at the vet minimum, go ahead. :bang:

As for Barbosa, he does have a mid range game but doesn't use it much. The key problem is that he has not quite figured out those situations where he CAN'T get to the basket. If Diaw is too cautious (reads the help defense and assumes that guy will get there in time), Leandro is too optomistic. I think this is something that can only be learned by doing, but I think he'll improve.
