It seems to me CC is playing inside much more this year than previously. I have to wonder if Bowles defense, which frequently attacked the A gaps more often than Betcher does, got to the QB more frequently because of this.

CC has been getting double teamed for the better part of the past few years. Drawing the double out side helped to open up the A gaps for quick and easier access to the QB from our historically sub-par LB's. This year, with CC drawing attention inside, the line is too congested for penetration, especially with us running out Buc and Minter instead of DWaste and Foote.

Just a theory... not something I've actually observed.

Go Cards!!!

I'm talking about when we are on offense and can't convert the 3rd and shorts... unless we pass.

Still the LB's fault :D

I think it's because we have a mediocre C who always gets pushed back.

As one of Butlers most vocal critics, I have to give him props.
He looked the part of an actual NFL punter last night.

Keep it up!

What happened to the Shipley FB plays they ran earlier in the season? That seemed to work near the goal line. No reason why it can't work on 3rd and short.

I am wondering if Campbell is not playing with an abdominal injury, (at least a strain, and possibly a tear). There was one point when he needed time to get to his feet, and came off the field holding the right side of his abdomen in obvious pain, (even bent over while walking). Yet he returned to the game almost as soon as the rules allowed him back onto the field. A man that tall, must have a hard time playing low, and it would have to be a near impossibility to be trying to do so injured like that.

I don't know if he was active or not but I agree that seemed to work.

Not sure at all how Peterson doesn't make the Hero list.

Glad to see Okafor on the goat list. He has played pretty damn poor since the return of his injury. But, it cannot be surprising a guy that was about a 1/2 step too slow is now a step and a half, that is not good.

Darren Fells quietly had a great game both blocking and receiving, IMO.

It all starts with Sendlein. He can't generate a push at all at the point of attack.

He was on there until actually started writing the column, but at the end of the day I was disappointed that he couldn't make it in for the last two series. He was exceptional last night. He was even looking feisty in punt return.

When Gunter had the sack, Bucannon had the fumble recovery, and some other young'in did something good, I bumped Peterson.

Rough. I don't think people realize how good Green is and how well Peterson has been playing. He arguably has been our MVP this year.

PP21 has been spectacular all season long, and he was great last night. When the Bengals put that shift on and Green was on Powers, you KNEW that the ball was going that way.

I think part of the reason that people are squealing about Powers is that Peterson has made shutting down opposing WRs by himself look easy. Peterson is a deserving captain and defensive MVP, no doubt about it.

For my money, CP3 is the team MVP.

People keep asking this. I don't expect Powers to be able to cover A.J. Green one-on-one. I agree with Chopper that I don't think that he's 100% healthy, but he's a reliable veteran. The Bengals are a good passing team with great size on the outside — Marvin Jones is 6'1", 199 lbs. The Cards were leaving both Powers and Peterson on an island on the outside: Johnson, Jefferson and Mathieu all played more than 64% of the snaps, but they were more or less invisible from an activity standpoint.

I'm not sure what people are expecting from Jerroud Powers. He's not Antonio Cromartie.

Except it hasn't just been for one game, and he was ATROCIOUS in all aspects of the game last night. I lost count of the number of missed tackles he had, often after giving up an easy catch.

As one of Butlers most vocal critics, I have to give him props.

No doubt. He's been punting really well lately.

No one should be able to defend Powers' play last night. He was garbage, no matter the circumstances. He had a bad game. He's had several in a row now. Will he get better? Is it due to injury? Perhaps.

I have to agree about Peterson, though. He's been nails this season.

Yeah, we still need to upgrade at C. Doesn't mean we can't win it all with Sendlein in there, though. The Lambs won with Gruttadaria, remember? (and then we signed him *ugh*)

We were 1.37 away from winning it all with him.

Powers was targeted 15 times allowing 8 catches, which is ok. But, on some of those incompletions, he had poor position (let receivers get inside and over the top) and was flat out beat on go routes (I think it was Sanu who was a finger tip away from a long TD completion). Powers doesn't turn his head enough to know when the ball is in the air and doesn't alter the receiver's timing on the line of scrimmage. He also had three missed tackles in the game.

He was there and dressed roaming the sidelines. Thought the same thing when CJ got stuffed on the 3rd n short

And he didn't play a down according to Pro-Football-Reference's snap counts. It seemed to me that the Cards were actively avoiding going to the middle of the field in the run and pass games and just keep the action out to the perimeter.
