It seems in all the shuffle no one is mentioning how well Alan Branch played against the Rams. Since last season he really seems to have got the message.

I thought he was exceptionally good on Sunday

So well played Mr Branch

Contract year. He'll eventually go back to his lazy self once he gets paid.

I'll third the "Contract year" motion. Good luck to him; he seems to have figured out what it takes to be a pro.

Finally.

Absolutely------He made two terriffic stops in the middle just when SJ had been tearing us up there. Give credit where credit is due-----he earned it.

Lost in the shuffle was one Gabriel Watson (who was on the inactive list because, as Wiz sort of put it, there was an embarrassment of riches on the D-line).

I'm guessing that the reason why Alan played and Gabe sat was less a matter of Gabe vs. Alan and more one of Gabe vs. Dan Williams vs. Bryant Robinson (three standard NT's compared to Alan who can also back up Darnell and Calais at DE in the 3-4).

It will be interesting to see how, in the upcoming games, Wiz and B Davis allocate the active playing time of our D-linemen. (Maybe they'll do it based on the way they match up with each opposing team's offensive personnel and style).

He played well last year too. He's not a great player but he is making an impact
when he's in there now and did so last year as well.

Part of the reason Gabe was inactive is that he tweaked his ankle in practice. He could have played but given the depth and talent why not sit the guy who is a bit dinged up.

Yup he seemed to hit his stride when he made the switch to 3-4 DE. Could be like a Calvin Pace situation where the coaches figured out how to maximize his strengths at the end of his contract (and he'll likely get a decent payday somewhere else)

i don't really buy the contract year stuff. In the NFL,for most, pretty much every year is a contract year.

Whats wrong with that? Dansby did the EXACT same thing and you defend his persona like hes your half brother.

I think the comments Adub made this week COMPLETELY validated what I have said about Dansby over the past 4 months, and really past 4 years.

He played well last week and my Phins fans friends love him now, but I say good riddance.

GO DARYL WASHINGTON!

He's a GREAT rotation DL and depth guy. Nothing less nothing more.

Sure you want more out of your second round pick that you traded up for but not everyone can be Daryl Washington;)

Or Cody Brown. But then it isn't really Brown's fault. Both he and Branch are victims of the price the Cards had to pay for Boldin; that no other Cardinal taken 2nd round in an odd numbered year could be great.

Since drafting Q in 2003 here are the Cards 2nd round picks in odd numbered years:

Arrington, Branch, and Brown

In even numbered years:

Dansby, Lutui, Campbell, and Washington.

:stick:

Okay, I got to know. How much of this info is in your head and how is due to research. Either way color me impressed because to even have the thought to look some of this stuff is amazing. So are you very clever or a freak. :)

Looks we might as well trade our 2011 2nd rounder now before we waste it in the draft!

Theres a lot of factors going into Branch playing better this year. He's healthy and in the best shape of his career. He's determined to finally play up to his own expectations and I dont think it's solely motivated by his contract status. I think he's just a proud guy who knows he can play better.

Dansby did the exact same thing? Dude made plays from the second he got put on the field as a rookie to his second to last playoff game. Hell, his WORST year statistically was last year when apparently Dansby did "the exact same thing". the above is nonsense.

Dansby essentially had 4 contracts years. Before that, he didn't play hurt and he didn't practice as much as you'd like for a leader fo the defense. Then the franchise tag appears and - POOF - all of a sudden hes Mr. Reliable.

So maybe not the exact same thing, but you are naive if you don't think he is motivated by stats and money 1 and 1A. His best friend on the team essentially said as much two days ago!

AZF, you're totally deranged on this topic. He was so selfish and such a freelancer that he was voted a captain by his teammates last year.

Bro did you read the AW comments on the Bick and MJ show? Am I really making this stuff up? Would he have just a TAD more insight then you?

And who else on that defense was going to be Captain? Dockett - no? Was there anyone else with the tenure or level of game of Dansby? Don't give me that his teammates voted for him - he got it by default.

Or maybe you just can't take off the Dansby glasses and see what you want to see. Theres a reason with his production and responsibility he didn't get paid here and we let him get to market. He ain't Fitz - He ain't Wilson - he ain't Dockett.

Its no coincidence that they were never allowed to hit the open market. because they bring production AND leadership.

But whatever. How we ever going to prove this? I just think I read the tea leaves better then you but to each his own....

$17 million for two years is not getting paid? The Cards didn't want him because he wasn't Fitz or Dockett or Wilson but they used the Franchise tag on him not once but twice?

Meanwhile the Cards go out and sign Porter:

Porter, a four-time Pro Bowler chosen in January to the NFL's All-Decade team, was released last month but reverted to the Miami roster because of a salary cap technicality. He had campaigned to be released while complaining about his reduced role last season and his relationship with coach Tony Sparano.

And Rhodes:

Rhodes, a former Pro-Bowl caliber playmaker and fan favorite, wore out his welcome in New York with questionable work ethic, lackadaisical play and his desire to stay in the headlines.

So I'm not buying what you are selling.

Happens all the time. Haynesworth is the poster child of contract year.
Haynesworth was pretty good prior to his free agency. Plus, you left out where i said every year is a contract year for most of the league.
