Not the answer but his first action of the season and no running game. All on his shoulders.

My problem with Gabbert is that he's going to be one of those guys that looks good, makes all the throws, but loses. He doesn't have that "it" factor.

He played well today and he had plenty of drops but I never thought he was going to lead the Cards back to victory. I don't know what it is but he doesn't have it. Russell Wilson can look terrible all game but when the game is on the line, he's going to make plays. Aaron Rodgers has it too.

This is a legitimate concern---no question. Imo, Gabbert has to play with more emotion...he's too bottled up. The right coach and surrounding cast could bring that out in him. But today i can't blame him for trying to stay super calm, as he said in his press conference he was just trying to make sure he knew exactly what he was supposed to be doing every play. It doesn't help too that Arizona has one of the worst 2 minute offenses in the NFL. The lack of urgency on this team is atrocious...and that starts with the coaches and how they prepare the players.

If i were Gabbert there is no way I would come back to Arizona as a backup. He will have much better options. Even Jimmy Johnson on FOX was touting his talent. There is no question in my mind that he has the best arm and quickest release of the 3 QBs. Probably the most accurate, as well. And, he's by far the most mobile. What he needs is a coach who is willing to stick with him as a starter. He's got to get out of the bad habit of throwing under the sticks on 3rd down. But, with the right coaching and in a system that he doesn't have to re-learn every year, this can be corrected.

Maybe he's worth a shot but let's see what happens the rest of the year. He's gotta' be the starter - right?

If they go back to Stanton next week I think most of the fanbase would be disgusted. Gabbert needs full practice reps and more starts under his belt. Unless he implodes the next two games he will be the guy.

BA said before the game that when Stanton is healthy, he is the starter.

I see a back up. He made some great passes but he showed me nothing which says he can sustain a long drive. Yes, he has a putrid OL which accounted for no running game and WRs who could not hold onto the ball but still, there was nothing fluid about drives with him and that is what a back up looks like in my opinion
Better than a standard backup. What we don't know is "what's rust?" and "what's part of Blaine's DNA?"

Poor OL play creates distant impacts. Biggest was that it forced Gabbert to throw too early - before his receivers had time to separate from their DB's...which in turn had a lot to do with the chronic case of dropsies. (Note how Savage's receivers looked much more wide open than ours).

That's what needs to happen to get BA questioned by Michael & Keim & possibly tossed out IMO. Otherwise we're talking same ol same ol

Seems like there is really something to work with. Excited to see how he performs the next 4-5 games... plus if his WRs would catch passes ....

It’s almost impossible to evaluate him on 1 start. He throws an easy to catch ball. He has a powerful arm and clearly can make all the throws with ease. I was very impressed with his touch on the short passes.

Keep in mind I doubt before this week he got any reps with the starters. That’s why Seals-Jones had a big game. Gabbert’s timing with him was very good. On both ints he misread the speed of the receiver.

The Cards’ playbook & BA’s offense is built around play action. That’s almost totally ineffective if you can’t run. Once you fall behind it is totally ineffective.

The other thing is you can’t get up to speed on the entire playbook when you’re third string. You can study the whole book, but that’s not the same as executing it. In fact not intentional QB runs were called.

Then how do you factor in the drops? This also likely caused extra stress on third down passes. I’m sure the tendency would be to try to make each throw perfect.

I didn’t come away saying Gabbert’s the QBOTF. I did come away seeing what others liked in him and why Jax kept trying. I’m not sure he can’t be an NFL QB and not sure he can. I am sure I want to see more.

I look at how bad we were on our 3rd down conversion offense, and I just don't see it.

Yeah that’s on Gabbert...give me a break the guy is starting his first game in the offense. Yeah it’s on him the ******** receivers can’t catch, and he has zero run game, and piss poor play calling. What are you watching? Seriously if you can’t see that he has the tools and looked very good until the defense continues to crap the bed putting us in a hole. Then BA goes into stupid playcalling mode all over again. Whatever some people just hate on the guy it’s ridiculous! Real quick go ahead and name some Cards QBs that looked better than BG did in their first start? The guy has the tools he needs an opportunity and some quality coaching which he has NEVER had with any consistency!

Blaine is much more accurate hopefully his D reading skills are better too. Gotta see more. I would take Matty over Stanton just saying.
I would take Leinart, Dave Brown, Kent Graham, Rich Bartel, Tim Hasselbeck, Stony Case, Steve Beurlein, and maybe even Akili Smith over Stanton

Gabbert played pretty well in his 1st start. He had 67% completions at one point even with 3-4 drops. He airmailed 2 balls & threw 1-2 below the receiver's knees so he did have a couple of accuracy issues. I wish BA had trusted him to throw a little more... we had too many drives stall out because we couldn't run the ball & got into 3rd & longs. Trying to run play action when you can't run the ball was a mistake (which led to that phantom hi-low blocking flag that killed one of our drives).

Both of his INTs were with less than 5 minutes left in the 4th qtr trying to force throws because we were down 31-21. You can't be late throwing the slant/crossing route because if it's a little behind the guy then the defender has a better chance at the ball than the WR.

Overall, I was happy enough with his play to consider him for the backup position next year. I hope he gets to keep playing instead of Stanton so we can evaluate him further.

I thought he did amazing considering that he was our 3rd string QB playing his first game with the Cardinals on the road. He had a 65% completion percentage even with his WRs dropping balls left and right. I want to see more of him.
