Several things.

Obviously more WR talent around him.

Obviously a better OL.

Obviously a better Defense.

But the #1 thing by far is he has to be taught what the guy working the Lions game today kept saying about their rookie QB, "step up not out, up not out." It's the single biggest issue I have with Kyler right now, yes he needs to run more, yes he needs to not go down so easily, but the single biggest thing is his first inclination is to step out or even back not up. It's what makes Wilson such a great QB the footwork climbing up in the pocket.

If Kliff can't teach him hell bring Carson Palmer in and have him spend the offseason teaching him for all his issues Carson was as good as we've ever had at hanging in there and stepping up in the pocket.

Yet it would help to have a pocket, but right now teams are scheming Kyler to try and get outside.

An aside, anybody else notice for a right hander he's MUCH better running to his left than his right? My suspicion is when he's running left he's more inclined to actually run, the TD run last week, the one against the 49ers were both left. I think when he starts going right he really wants to throw it and it's why he's not as good a runner that way.

This kind of thing is probably more on Kyler to figure out how to work on during his offseason. That is what the grinders do. See Lamar Jackson.

Watching today, we need to upgrade the oline and upgrade the defense. WRs are good enough for now. Maybe we make some amazing moves in free agency or great trades, but at this point, Kyler needs the Dak Prescott treatment. He is too raw and his fundamentals need too much work. We need to give him time so he can be comfortable let him be a game manager which he seems best at, and keep games close.

OLine & defense need to be upgraded, but, no, the WRs are not good enough for now.

A new offense and HC.
In the nfl you need to put the ball downfield.

Sure I guess I'm thinking his dad is a QB coach and he doesn't do it by now we probably don't want him working on it himself, or with his dad, we want him working on it with someone new that really drives home that point step up, not out. It's the single biggest issue with him as a QB, it's one thing when the rush is up the middle which it has been quite a bit the last 2 games, but even from the outside his first move is step out not up, by the time he decides to step up the defense has started to fill that it's why he never seems to step through up the middle and get by despite his quickness, he's late deciding to do it because his first step is out or back not up.

Jackson is great but he also played 3 years in college, threw nearly 1100 passes. He threw 500 more passes in college than Murray did and he was a full time football player not splitting time with baseball like Kyler did the last 2 years.

He has lots of hard work to do but honestly the stepping up in the pocket stuff will make such a big difference for him if he can get it down. He's got the arm, he's accurate, he can run, needs to be more willing to do it. If he can get comfortable in the pocket he'll be so much better next year.

I agree. Average WR’s can be made to look great when your qb has time with a complimentary running game. Our WR’s can catch and run. It’s not like they have hands like JJ Nelson.

Upgraded WRs are going to be no use if Kyler plays like he did today because he is worried about getting hit. And if teamscan just pin their ears and rush him because we are constantly playing in shoot outs, he is not going to last. He is eventually going to need better weapons, but I can't put that need over the other needs at this point in time.

Teams are absolutely sitting on 8 yard routes and we’re not even throwing deep 3 times per game. Completely unacceptable.

Agreed. And it isn't all because of the offensive plays being called. Kyler is not comfortable holding onto the ball to enable WRs to get deep. Those deep crossers, like the one completed to Kirk, are there, but Kyler has to hold the ball. Upgrading the offensive line enables him to do that more.

The question is, can we fix it in one offseason and draft?

Probably not everything but if he can just learn to step up that will solve a big issue on offense. If we can get a good draft and offseason to help the defense and improve the OL and or WR, that will help.

The offense is dramatically better this year it's just the defense is even worse that's why the record is so similar, we're far more competitive this year with a terrible defense. Improve the defense, improve Kyler in the pocket and we're much better.

One of the many dumb things hte announcer said today was Murray has lots of sacks taken but mostly not the big yardage ones, huh?

I don't think you will ever see Murray be the QB that will stand tall in the pocket and take a hit like we all saw Palmer do and many other QBs in the NFL. He just doesn't have the testicular fortitude to do so.

Another candle on the birthday cake will help Kirk, Isabella, much better. If Fitz is still here, we can manage with some mid priced free agents.

And don’t forget Butler! If someone can teach that dude to run routes, we may have something on the outside.

Counting on Isabella is Keim logic. Kid hasn't caught even double-digit passes. If he's counted on for anything other than to be the bottom-of-the-depth-chart, we've screwed something up.

He has to learn to step up. Not a great game for wilson last night but you saw how much better he is at stepping up into a pocket to buy time. And someone get Murray game film to watch of how Wilson ducks down low to both avoid hits, and stay on balance so he doesn't go down so easily.

I feel that Murray need a mauler at center. Maybe he would have more confidence to step up in the pocket and make a throw. I don't think he has confident with Shipley. I don't blame him. How many times have he been rushed right after the snap.

Murray had made a definitive commitment to baseball after being the ninth overall pick of the 2018 MLB draft and signed contract with the Oakland. Suddenly the landscape changed when Klingsbury was hired (January 8, 2019) as the new coach of the Cardinals and he made a statement back on October 28, 2018 that he would draft Kyler Murray with the first pick of the NFL draft if he could. February 11, 2019, Murray decides to opt out of his contract with Oakland and commit to football instead.

Now anyone with a lick of sense could see that stars aligned for Murray and he had fallen in love with the idea that he would be the first pick in the NFL draft. There is a lot of prestige in being the top pick of the NFL draft along with a nice contract (fully guaranteed 4-year deal worth $35,158,645, which includes a $23,589,924 signing bonus) which was much better than the $4.6 million signing bonus with the A's who then offered him a $14 million guaranteed to stick with baseball.

The question one should be asking is would Murray have selected football over baseball if he had no guarantee of being selected #1 in the draft?

According to Walter Football, Murray had some mixed interviews at the combine, with one general manager telling WalterFootball.com that Murray's play recall was just average. They also feel he has an ego, and is not a standout teammate or leader. Murray also preferred to hang out with his baseball teammates over his football teammates while at Oklahoma. Still, they like his confidence to go along with his play-making skills and view him as a winner. Teams see Murray as having the potential to be a Russell Wilson-type quarterback in the NFL.
