What should the Suns do with Gortat this summer?

Sure, it fun and all to dream, but why in the hell would S.A. trade Leonard to the Suns, or anyone for that matter??? They have a young stud on a rookie contract and their team is old. He is perfect for them to play with the old fellas another few years and than they build around him. I'd be in absolute shock if he was traded, and traded for Gortat/Dudley, no way.

For Leonard? I don't think so. He could be a real building block for the future. I'm with sunsfan88 on this one. I'd trade pretty much the entire roster for Leonard, except I guess keeping Dragic. 12 and 6 with good shooting percentages and very good defense? Who else on the Suns can bring that to the table?

Agreed. I don't think he can be a big 3 superstar, but he definitely had all-star potential and a hell of a lot more potential for a young team with no building blocks then an okay C in his prime, a good role player SF and a pick that we haven't shown an ability to capitalize on yet.

Right, you'll notice that I said this:

If the Spurs really want Gortat, I think a third team has to be involved. The Spurs have nothing the Suns want, unless they would consider parting with Kawhi Leonard, which is unlikely.

I guess I didn't realize Leonard was that good. I was thinking he was a top 50, maybe top 40 kind of player. Good enough to be the 3rd best on a championship team, 2nd best on a typical playoff team.

Gambo just tweeted that the Gortat for Splitter rumors are ridiculous and not true.

That sounds about right, but when you consider that the only player on the Suns who has so much of a prayer of being top-40 is Dragic, Leonard's value becomes clearer. Obviously the Suns aren't going to land a current All-Star, so if for some reason the Spurs were willing to part with Leonard, you have to snap him up.

Is it mandatory to be a Euro to play for the Spurs?

I think Leonard would be about the best we could get for Gortat.

Well, as you said before, the Spurs are unlikely to let him go. I think throwing the Minnesota pick in there is a little steep so I'm probably okay with the deal being a long-shot. I don't think Dragic and Leonard are a good enough combo to entice a big star and we're in desperate need of a one. From what I've read, every pick in next year's draft is a superstar in the making so we should be okay without this trade.

How did we get to the ludicrous idea that San Antonio is going to trade Leonard to us?

After reading some of the silliness on this thread I just went to the last page and saw that Joe Mama had summed up my thoughts perfectly.

Duncan and David Robinson disagree.

By seriously though, I think there's a very good chance that after Popovich retires, the Spurs become the first team in NBA history to hire a Euro HC.

Well, I've already posted this twice, but I know you're a busy man ;), so here you go:

Yep, always trade nickels and dimes for quarters. You only win in the NBA with quarters.

I think the Spurs are about as likely to ship Leonard to us for Gortat as they are Duncan for the Gorilla.

Yep. The formula is usually to find a disgruntled quarter and trade two dimes and a nickel.

If only the Suns could get lucky for once and have a high enough draft pick to obtain a no-brainer pick who all the fans were screaming for, like Leonard. </sarcasm>

Splitter just a paid 5 year, $45 million deal. And Splitter's a 28 year old center.

Gortat is 29 years old....and far better than Splitter...damn him and agent must be grinning now right now thinking how rich they will be next summer.

No takers for Gortat yet? I'd rather have Robin Lopez back for tougher D.

Maybe McDonough is just starting to see that he might want the cap space for Gortat rather than a marginal asset that limits flexibility.

I think I'd be happy with trading Gortat to Portland for a resigned JJ Hickson to play PF for us. Though I admit I don't know his game (only stats) and not sure if he'd compliment or clog up space with Len.
