He just turned 29 and has 3 years left on his deal, which isn't too expensive other than year 3. He's get two firsts and I'm not sure we're in a position to give that kind of capital up.

"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.
"With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."

He wants to play for a team that is Super Bowl ready. Are the Cardinals close enough in Garrett's mind? I doubt it.

What he's worth which is two 1sts and some mid rounds picks. Probably a 3rd and 5th.

Yeah, I'd pay that. Draft picks are overvalued.

Wherever you look at this trades 3-4 years later it's incredibly rare to see that the team had value from the draft picks they got.

I think it is a bit of both. I don't believe Garrett would view the Cardinals as a Super Bowl contender. On the other hand, Garrett doesn't seem like the type of player Monti is looking to acquire (veteran, expensive, higher trade value).

Garrett is 2 years older and has a chronic foot condition, no? I think a 1st and a 2nd does it.

I don't think you can discount how much Garrett being two years older could reduce his compensation. Let's start at this, what teams do people think would give up 2 first round picks for Garrett?

Detroit? Washington? Philly? Tampa?

Now of those teams, who has cap space?

Detroit. Washington.

That's kinda the market for two 1sts and I don't know that it leads to a bidding war.

he's not going to Arizona.
I seriously doubt they get 2 firsts for him either. They'll ask for at least that but teams aren't giving up 2 firsts for a 29 year old DE. He's ultra good but teams just won't give up that much unless it's a conditional first. He might get a 1st and 2nd but that's probably the ceiling.

Absolutely. This would be a no brainer. Problem is, Monti's too conservative and chicken ish to do it.
