It's funny, people always ask me, but you're Irish why don't you like Notre Dame?

It most certainly can happen. My wife watches that show 'Catfish' on MTV and there was just an episode where a dude was duped for 14months by one of his best female friends pretending to be someone else via facebook.

Its just a sign of the times we live in and it is believeable to me.

But, hey, if this means Cards can get Te'o in the 3rd round now...

Much like the movie on which it's based, that Catfish show isn't real, either. People have been calling out the creators of it for a long time.

I'm sure people do get duped into fake online relationships, but there are way too many holes in this story. Why didn't he ever meet up with her, especially since she allegedly traveled to Hawaii from time to time? Why didn't they ever Skype together? If he loved her so much, why didn't he ever see her in the hospital when she was dying? Or at least attend her funeral? Or meet her family after she had died?

The dude is guilty.

It wasn't the fact that he had a fake girlfriend. It is the fact that he lied about it and garnered sympathy for a fake tragedy. Now he wants people to believe he was a victim.

Is he lying, probably just because the story is so odd.

But the knee jerk reaction that he is guilty pisses me off. All the good hes done is wiped away in the matter of 5 hours because of a rumor.


Secondly, say he is guilty. He still hasnt hurt anyone. Whats the price of your sympathy? $9.95 p/h? He hasnt HURT anyone. You can be annoyed that he possibly fooled you, but get some thicker skin if thats the case.

He made me think one thing, but now im angry that its not true! Forbid theres ever a war within America or all you pansies wont last. Get thicker skin. This isnt news or worth my time.

I don't think he's completely innocent even if he didn't know that the thing was a hoax. He told a bunch of lies about meeting her and about the relationship. He lied to Gene Wojciechowski, who was doing a story about him for ESPN. When Gene wanted to talk to her family, Manti told him that they were requesting privacy. He might have been embarrassed about it but by doing that he perpetuated the hoax and with it the sympathy and publicity he was getting. So there is no way he is completely innocent even if he was the victim of the initial hoax.

There is no way he was not an active part of his hoax. I might be able to buy into him being the victim here if he could keep any consistency to the story but he couldnt even get the date and time of her death pinned down. I dont see the reason for him to be fumbling those basic aspects of the story if he was simply relating a lie. Rather it appears that he was a source of a huge amount of the lies in this story (which cant be debated, such as his tale of their first meeting), and he ended up with so many lies that he couldnt keep track of them all... which is why he repeatedly screwed up different aspects of the story upon retelling.

Its going to be really interesting to see what happens with his career now. I'd think he will drop considerably in the draft, 3rd round? I cant imagine a team wanting to deal with the media scrutiny of Teo with a 1st round label.

Once he does play he is going to be subject to a historic level of heckling.
