"There's no substitute for experience."

Nonsense. Talent, whether youthful or not, will beat experience most of the time.

Any broadcaster or reporter who says:

"................ at this point in time."

It's - at this point or at this time, take your pick.

Both in the same sentence is redundant.

The use of the term "utilize" instead of "use" and "irregardless" (which isn't a word) for "regardless".

I kinda like inflammable. That's a neat word.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but I become violent when I hear people make any reference to board games when speaking about Cleveland Indians center fielder, Milton Bradley. I don't even like Cleveland, but it makes me crazy to hear it EVERY time they talk about the guy on TV.

How about Tom "Flash" Gordon? Or Matt "The Iceman" Mantei.

You just know Mantei gave himself that name.

Mantei: "Uh, fellas. From now on I want you all to call me the Iceman. You know, 'cause I'm cold blooded or something."

Brenly: "When you due off the IR, Matt?"

Mantei: "It's Iceman from now on, coach."

Brenly: "How about we call you Icepack, in honor of the freaking Iceberg constantly strapped to that $7M a year shoulder of yours?"

Grace: "How about just Iceberg?"

Mantei: "No, it's gotta be Iceman."

Brenly: "Well, Matt, just let me know when you're ready, because we need a setup man."

I lost all respect for that guy, and I fully blame him for the streak ending. No joke. I blame it squarely on his ********.

I'll admit that I don't follow soccer that much, but wouldn't 1-0 be more dangerous than 2-0???

Apparently being down 2-0 leads to being down 4-0. Go figure.

"This is a chip shot. He hasn't missed inside the ----- all year."

"Nice fish."

Anything by Chris Collinsworth, Don Crique or Dick Stockton.

"That's why they play the games," or "He could... go... all... the... way!"

again, it'll be too soon.

I know Berman really gets on some people's nerves, but for me, he's one of the reasons I look forward to football season. Even though his lines are cliche, it always reminds me that it's football season again.

When athletes imply God had something to do with winning or losing. God doesn't care about who wins or loses sports games! Except for the Vikings I think He/She really hates the Vikings. ;)

"This team is in control of their own destiny."

If it was "destiny" it couldn't be controlled, would it?

This isn't sports-related, but I see it misused EVERYWHERE--newspapers, novels, on the television, films...you'd think someone would know that "nonplussed" means excited and flustered, not the opposite: calm and serene.

I never use the word at all because everyone thinks it means the exact opposite of what it does. If i said our house was burning down and my wife was absolutely nonplussed, you'd think I meant she was unaffected; in rea;ity it means she was running around like her hair was on fire.

The thing about Berman that makes him tolerable, and even endearing, to me is that he knows he's a walking cliche and he goes with it.

How about when baseball announcers refer to every single left-handed pitcher thats been around for more than 5 years as "crafty".

If I hear the phrase, "crafty left-hander" one more time, I'm going to lose it.

Also, without fail, every time a pitcher is having trouble getting out of an inning and hes throwing a lot of pitches, the announcers will invariably say:

"he's really laboring out there".

I actually love and hate both those cliches. Weird, huh?

This is impossible otherwise there is a problem with your measuring stick.

Not only is this misused constantly, now athletes are so used to people giving 110%, I have heard some saying they need to give 120%, 130% and yes, even 200%.

In ten years I expect giving 200% will be the new standard, so people will reference giving 300%, etc.

Wow, quite the list we have going here.

I hate it when I see "1st annual such-and-such event". Look people, it isn't annual until the second time around. The first time is inaugural.

Also, I tend to skip over the "so-and-so just got cut, should we bring them in for a tryout" posts in here. Ugh... Waste of time.

Go Cards!!!
