I have to admit that I haven't watched the press conference yet, but here's my take on the deal stalling. I think the Atlanta owner is hesitant to give up the draft picks with the rather limited protection. Frankly they probably saw how Isaiah Thomas worked over the Suns, and they are trying to do the same thing.

If they change the deal in favor of Atlanta I'll be very upset. This is BS negotiating. Of course the Phoenix Suns didn't help themselves by opening the negative JJ propaganda the second the trade was announced instead of waiting for it to actually go through.

That's my $.02 anyhow.

I don't think Stern would allow this unprofessionalism on Hawks' owners' part to happen. With NY, we only talked about the trade without signatures yet. Here, we have all signatures but one and during the process we showed our hands. If this kind of tactic be allowed, you open a ugly can of worms for future negotiations the league definitely doesn't want to see.

Wow. After watching the press conference about 3 times (just to be sure I was hearing what I thought I was hearing), I've come away with a different set of emotions than I previously had.

I'm going to back of Sarver for now. Honestly, he looked as dejected as we are. And, he didn't mince words when talking about how they tried getting in touch with JJ.

Bottom line is that JJ DEFINITELY turned a cold shoulder to PHX management at some point. Why? Why in the hell would he do that? Sarver did him a favor by not signing him last year! He should be forever grateful that Sarver allowed him to pocket an extra $20 million.

An interesting point that Jerry C. (and nobody has really brought up), is that PHX has kept their options open. Was this a vague mention that JJ and the Suns can patch their differences?

From what I've heard about negotiations. The Suns offered JJ a 6 yr. deal for what the Hawks were offering for 5 yrs. and wanted him to sign playing the championship card in their favor to sign for less money. He balked and now the Suns' management is trying to put the spin in their favor. They were offering less than market value. That is not what they said they were going to do. "Match any offer."

The Suns "lowball" offer doesn't really matter. Sarver personally asked JJ if he wanted him to match the offer ATL offered. JJ's response? No. What is Sarver supposed to do after that?

BTW, how can anyobdy in touch with "reality" consider $60 million a "lowball" offer? Give me a friggin' break. There has to be a point in which you can only put so many PlayStations in one car.

My thinking is that Arn Tellem got greedy and whispered sweet nothings into JJ's ear. That upfront balloon payment to JJ is going to look mighty nice in Tellem's bank account.

man you guys really think agents have more power than they really possess. but whatever.

i just watched the presser. i love raja bell. dude just really seems like a solid guy. i can't wait to watch his d next year.

and for all of you who keep thinking that agents are the devil, did any of you pay attention to what jc had to say about raja's agent? or notice how raja treated him? or the kind words and soft spoken manner the agent had? don't only notice the bad, give recognition to the good too.

It seems to me only the Hawks - 2/3rds of the Hawks, at that - thought JJ's 'market value' was as high as he was thinking, meaning it is likely pretty inflated. And that kind of money for a guy who is NOT a #1 player, does not have #1 flash and charisma - they're nuts. JJ will not get them into the playoffs, and he will not fill more than a handful of additional seats. He'd be a good backup to a star, if he'd accept the role gracefully and gratefully.

Don't just blame Arn Tellem - it has long been said publically that JJ's family are his closest business advisors.

Some agents are more influential than others; some players are more open to being influenced than others.

I'm sure playing at a sh*tbox club like Atlanta, getting beat on night in night out for 82 games, in front of no-one , having constant grief thrown at you by the Media who will invariably target 'the man' (ie soon to be JJ) for the failings of the team is clearly a better situation than that offered by Phoenix.

Heck if he doesn't like it, demand a trade in a year when they've won a title. Honestly, why the sudden rush to leave when we haven't heard any grumblings from him before?

You are looking at this in the wrong way. If JJ had been unrestricted he would have been the top target of teams like Cleveland and likely the Los Angeles Clippers as well as the Atlanta Hawks. JJ is not worth $14 million per year, but in this summer's free-agent market he is.

Michael Redd got 6 years/$90 million the day before the Phoenix Suns offered that 6 years/$60 million. If you can't see why JJ would be upset with that after what he perceived last summer I don't understand it.
