From the jist of Kent Somers piece in today's Republic, Ken Whisenhunt IMO, needs to soothe his all-pro wide receiver. A phone call may be in order.

MIAMI - The Cardinals' top two receivers visited the Super Bowl XLI media center separately Tuesday for promotional purposes and gave off much different vibes when asked about new coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Larry Fitzgerald said he hadn't met or talked with Whisenhunt yet.

"I'll talk to him in minicamp," Fitzgerald said.

He also said he hadn't heard anything from other players in the league about Whisenhunt, who replaced Dennis Green.

"It's part of the business, and I'll move forward," said Fitzgerald, who owns a home in southern Florida and visits a few times each year.

Fitzgerald was close to Green, who was fired the day after the season ended

Whiz was in Mobil last week, still has staff to hire and, no doubt, will want to get his assistants together and pointed in the right direction before he and they start contacting players.

That said - the time for reaching out is drawing near.

Fitz, be a man!

Fitz' phone dials out also. Assuming he said, "I'll see him in minicamp", he sounds sour grapes. The whole world knows he was a Viking ball boy and Green's "godchild". If anybody should have picked up the phone to reach out to Whiz, it was Larry. That is the way you cut off rumor and innuendo about loyalty before it even starts. This story will have legs until Larry makes a move.

Minicamp is a requirement; getting over Green is another one.

Fitz is understandably close to DG. I think it would be a great gesture for Whis to reach out to him. The new step-parent should also reach out to the new step-child, same principle. Build bridges now.

I agree, the article in the East Valley Tribune also compared Fitz's demeanor to Boldin's.
Boldin high on Whisenhunt hire
By Darren Urban, Tribune January 31, 2007

MIAMI - The Cardinals’ pair of star receivers each have a place to stay in Florida and each had some media responsibilities, so Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald made Super Bowlrelated appearances Tuesday. But they came across very differently when asked about new Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt. Not surprisingly, Boldin embraced the hire, given Whisenhunt’s reputation for being creative with his playbook, and said he hoped to meet with Whisenhunt after the Pro Bowl.

Fitzgerald, apparently still stinging from the dismissal of coach and family friend Dennis Green, didn’t sound like he was in a hurry to do the same.

“I’ll talk to (Whisenhunt) at minicamp,” Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald also said he “hadn’t heard anything” about his new coach.

“It is part of the business and you try and move forward,” Fitzgerald said.

Boldin, meanwhile, quizzed Steelers receivers Hines Ward, Willie Reid and Santonio Holmes about Whisenhunt.

“Everything I hear from other guys is nothing but good,” Boldin said. “They talked about how much we’ll like him, say he is a player’s coach and real innovative on offense, so that’s what I am looking forward to.”

Boldin is from West Palm Beach and is staying there, about 40 minutes away from the Super Bowl chaos. Fitzgerald owns a place right on South Beach, about five minutes from the media center. He said he stays there four to five times a year.

Neither is staying in town for the game itself.

As for who will be teaching the duo, the Cardinals still have not yet hired a receivers coach. The team tried to talk to former Cardinals receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, who is under contract in San Francisco, but were denied permission. Former Dolphins receivers coach Charlie Baggett was a possibility, but he apparently will not be getting the job.

Fitz is getting paid to be a professional. If he has issues starting training camp and then into the season, then he can be judged. Until that time, let the rumors fly, the media needs something to write about.

i love fitz, but if he's gonna act like a petulant child that's friggin ridiculous.

yes, he has a personal relationship with denny.

and yes denny was a driving factor in making him the 3rd pick in the draft.

but he has to remember that the organization was also a key component in drafting him 3rd.

the organization pays him a lot of money.

and whisenhunt had nothing to do with denny's firing.

be upset with the organization for a day, if you must, for firing green. but then be upset with denny for failing to win, be upset with the team for failing to win, and be upset with yourself for letting your coach and friend down. it's not like whisenhunt was lobbying to get denny fired and step in and take his place.

fits needs to get over this and then get over himself and be a professional.

If Fitz thinks he is going to get any caudling from the Whiz then he is in for a rude awakening. This staff isn't going to caudle players and stroke the egos.

Maybe Somers could get on the phone himself to research this a bit more so he could provide more information as support for his creating an impression that Fitz is somehow disgruntled.

if you have paid any attention the past couple of years you should have known that this was coming. This was the only reason that I believe denny remained the coach for as long as he did. When fitz entered the draft it was a fact before hand that we would select him because green and his old man were really tight. Green had known fitz all of his life and had his eye on him since he was in the eighth grade. Fitz, in my eyes has always been a great player, but never that into being a cardinal. I think we should trade him before he leaves us in fa. When the organization invited certain players (warner, leinart, boldin, wilson, berry) to interview the hc candidates fitz wasn't even called. coincidence, i think not. The cards know what his deal is. Iknow it is heartbreaking to think of someday losing a player of his tremendous caliber, but bj is a fa soon and i think we would be dumb for letting both go. We could get more for fitz in a trade than any player on our team (excluding leinart and maybe wilson) or any other wr in football. I say trade the baby for picks or linemen, make bj the starter, trade down from 5 grab ginn and call it one hell of an offseason.

Furthermore, if any of you who are reading this have not listened to the interview w/ boldin please do so. That is a team player and the type of guy i want. Saying "we will talk in minicamp" just doesn't cut it for me. Halt production of #11 jerseys imo.

It will all work itself out..It always does. We have the two of the best wide outs in the NFL, things happen and then it's time to play. I wouldn't want to ever lose anyone of them. They are two compltely different personalitys.

Fitz is a team player with good character. I think too much is being read into the couple of responses he made. Once he gets back with the team, he'll be true. What do people expect him to say, "Yeah, I think we really have a chance to do something now". Could it be that he was reserved in what he said because Green might be reading it?

What did I expect him to say? Well, how about: "I look forward to meeting him and you can be assured that he will get the same 100% I give every coach!" or words to that effect in football player talk.

How could that offend Uncle Denny? That is a positive, TEAM PLAYER message from a super-star who needs to be media-savvy. Hey, use the media and you don't have to use your minutes (like Larry is hurting for cash).

What's that saying about "I'm a grown man"??

I say we help Oakland correct the horrendous mistake they made a few years back when they selected Gallery. We give them Fitz for this year's number one pick and next year's second round pick.

We take Calvin Johnson with the first pick and Adrian Peterson with our number one pick.

wideouts:

Anquan Boldin
Calvin Johnson
Bryant Johnson
LeRon McCoy
Troy Walters

backfield:

Edge
Andrian Peterson
Marcel Shipp
JJ - Lightning "I am speed" McQueen - Anderson

Badda bing! Problem solved.

First, I'm not even sure Fitz is a problem. He strikes me as a classy guy who saw the firing of "Uncle" Denny coming. Second, I hate the trade. Fitz is a proven commodity while Johnson is not. If we traded with Oakland I would need Asomugha, and their first at minimum.

Fitz had said awhile back that he didn't want to think about football and was planning a month in Australia in Febuary. He has top 5 potential as a Wr. So does Boldin. That said If we could get Oak to give up Moss and 2 number 1 picks we would be a better team dealing Fitz. I think Boldin and a no nonsense coach could get Moss to perform at his pay level. The 2 number ones this year and next or at minimum 1 and 2 this year would be a key. No one wants to believe Fitz would be unhappy on the Cardinals but he has great value in a trade because he is a classy guy. I still have to believe we are in a rebuilding mode at this point and more quality players and picks build you faster.

Denny wasnt fired sooner because Fitz wouldnt like it? You are joking right?

Did you expect them to bring in the whole team? Where was Hayes, Dansby, Rolle, or any other player. Are those players not thought of very well by the team as well. Also I dont believe Lienart was apart of the 1st interviews, he was asked to talk to them on the 2nd interviews but declined due to prior ingagement. Also not all of them met with every single coach. It was a mish mash of players who met with them if they had the time. The only player to met all of them was Wilson I believe. Wilson was also the only player to show up to Wiz introductory presser.

And yes the Cards do know what his deal is. Fitz eats, sleeps and breaths at the cards facitlity. He is constently the first guy there and the last one to leave, and even helped the facilities and trainers with their work, helping fold towels at the end of the days. Days that Denny wasnt even there. The Cards know full well what his deal is, and its a good one.

Furthermore, if any of you who are reading this have not listened to the interview w/ boldin please do so. That is a team player and the type of guy i want. Saying "we will talk in minicamp" just doesn't cut it for me. Halt production of #11 jerseys imo.

So one guy is more articulate in from of a microphone then the other. Big deal.

I have never in my life seen people take what someone said and read so much into them. Talk about a mountian out of a mole hill.

Totally agree with you. Much ado about nothing. For the record, Boldin is very much an extrovert whie Fitz is more of an introvert.
