I find it funny how many on this board think Horton will be our savior. Facts are if he is hired to be the HC he will have less time to put in with the defense and will have very little say in the selection of the offensive coordinator and personnel. Hiring Horton essentially puts our offensive future in the hands of a GM who we don't have.

I am not optmistic in how this plays out. In my opinion there are more opportunties for the Cardinals to end up worse after the dust settles than there are for them to be better. We will see.

x2.

Put me on the fence on this one. We just fired the best coach we've had in 25 years. To think we're automatically going to bring in someone better is foolhardy. We may, but I'd say odd's are against us. Especially as we don't have a QB on the roster that a new coach can win with right away.

I've seen several tweets and posts around the internet blaming Whis' demise on the Kevin Kolb fiasco. The Cardinals paid a heavy price for a mediocre injury-prone quarterback. Maybe we can trade Kevin to Whis' new team for a pro-bowl quarterback and a second round draft choice. ;)

To think the Cardinals can't do better than 18-30 in a three year period with 8 or whatever QBs is foolhardy. Also, the QB situation was his fault. It's a move that is a year too late IMO. Thanks for the Super Bowl ride Whisenhunt, but no thank you for driving this team into the ground in the subsequent years.

I always laugh when I see long time Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers quotes someone at ESPN as his source. I know it doesn't mean anything but its just funny to me to see the local guy seeming to get his info from Espn instead of the local team.

So do you think plan A is to hire Keim (GM) & Horton (HC)? And, hopefully, they have a plan B & C too....never mind getting an OC, DC & OL coaches......

No ill will towards the man, he just wasn't winning games. Wish him the best.

Happy about the speed in which the decision was made.

Sometimes hard decisions have to be made and the term "accountable" means:"if you screw up, you can get fired." It doesn't necessarily you're a bad person or wouldn't be successful under the right circumstances, but if bad things (fairly or unfavorably) happened under your watch, it could cause you to get fired. Wiz and Rod "were held accountable."

However, Two things on this board bother me:

First is the certitude of the comments - as if the writers are absolutely positive that Coach A will be better than Coach B or that this or that move is guaranteed to succeed. Oh if things were that cut & dried. Be careful what you wish for, Boys & Girls.

Second are the numerous howls of glee over people getting fired. This isn't Fantasy Football - careers and the economic security of families (real live people) are being impacted. I ask the most exuberant of you: "Have you ever been fired?" Try it sometimes - it ain't no walk in the park.

End of rant. It may have been time for Wiz to go, but we don't have to be so happy about it.

However, Two things I'm seeing too much of on this board are disturbing:

I hate comments like this. You're acting like we're happy with Whiz demise when really we're happy with change to a team that doesn't seem to win under him. We're happy with trying something different than the thing that wasn't working. Do I feel bad for Whiz? No, of course not. He didn't get the job done. That's the nature of the business he has decided to work in.

Cardinals also fire entire offensive staff, not the defensive coaches

If this doesn't say they are leaning toward Horton, I don't know what does. Or is this Clancy 2.0?

 well said Jeff, your always a voice of reason.

Wiz gave us the fans & it's players 2 years of great memories! He & all the other coaches now must uproot their families & move to the next destination, which can't be easy! I will never have hate for Wiz & IMO the class act he was to the fans!

If you are pure of heart, you shouldn't be offended because my comments won't apply to you.

Exactly what I expected, hopefully it works out for us though I'm skeptical because it rarely happens with first time HCs.

yep that's the other possibility, they're keeping the defensive staff and hiring a new head coach but I kinda doubt it.

Wtih all these openings and the Rooney Rule, they would be taking a huge risk someone else hires Horton out from under them.
