MOD NOTE _ THIS IS A BUMPED THREAD FROM 2006

Now that it's official, who does everyone want as the next coach?

I've been saying for a while that I would like Tom O'Brien (current BC coach) or Bo Pelini (LSU DC). The current Dave Mcginess/Norm Chow rumors are intriguing as well.

Let the speculation begin! What a great weekend in ASU sports!!

Agreed, very intriguing options, especially Mac and Chow. Oh, that sounds like dog food..

I like Danny White but I doubt he gets the job. Looking at the candidates on firedirkkoetter.com I would like Schiano,I doubt he comes here, but I'd love to have him here.

Mac and CHow: Come on folks, don't be as stupid as Bickley. This would never happen, and I'm glad. McGinnis isn't a good coach, he's a good assistant, but he was a loser when he was w/ the Cardinals. Please, dont say "well Pete Carroll lost in the NFL and has won in college," look its a lot easier to bring USC to prominence than ASU, and we shouldn't try to follow someone elses formula for finding a coach. Furhtermore, why would Norm Chow leave as the OC of an NFL team to come be the OC for a 2nd rate Pac 10 school? Think about it.

Danny White: The man has never coached 11 man football. And, as big of a name as he is in the Valley, I promise you blue chippers in California have never heard of him.

Personally, if Love could go the route she did w/ Sendek I would be elated. If she could find a coach who had success at the mid major level, as well as in a BCS conference, and try to hire him away, that would be ideal. That being said, I don't have anyone in mind that fits that description.

Or, if Ms Love decides to go the route of up and coming coordinator, I'd like to see Ron English. He is Michigans DC and used to coach at ASU.

I think my ideal situation would be: Dennis Erickson as HC (though he'll probably be headed back to Miami) w/ Ron English as DC. Have Erickson keep the seat warm for a few years, use his big name to draw in some recruits and then in 4 or 5 years when he is a bit older, have English take the reins.

McGinnis and Chow have essentially zero recruiting history. You can take them off the list unless some sort of proven recruiting coordinator is brought in with them and generally that is only a spoil of the big programs.

I'm sure they'll just promote Coach Carpenter, since he seemed to be the one calling the shots going into this year.

You say no to the above names then counter with Dennis Erickson and Ron English????? Ron English did a horrible job while here as db coach and Michigans D is overrated IMO. He's far from a legit HC candidate. Erickson has either left every school for other opportunities or has left programs with NCAA sanctions. He can recruit but it comes with with huge risk

I am really amazed when I hear people hyping up Dave Mac. I mean, do you all really think he would take ASU football to the next level? He didnt do jack with the cardinals, and just cuz hes a nice guy, people around here think he would be the savior. you gotta be kidding me. Neuheisel(sp?) is my first choice, and dont give me all this talk about how he is corrupt. It was a freakin office pool, the same kind that takes place at my mom's elementary school, big dollar or not its the same damn thing. My sleeper is definately Jim Harbaugh from USD. I am excited to see this take its course. Go Devils

:biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Former NFL coaches, whether succesful or not in the league, have a solid reputation for being succesfull at the collegiate level. He's not my first chioce but he blows Neuheisel and Harbaugh out of the water.

Neuheseil IS CORRUPT. Everywhere he goes he leaves in shambles. The freakin office pool, that was nothing. How bout the mess he left in Colorado? The mess he left at Washington? If your asking me, he should never be allowed to coach in college again. He's a major crook and ASU wouldn't even think of talking to him. We're just recovering from major PR nightmares, bringing in Neuheisel is like throwing gas on the fire.

And Harbaugh is laughable. I would like to think ASU is a big enough job to land a better candidate then Harbaugh. He's coaching in a non-scholarship league, not exactly my idea of a coach who will take us to the next level

So in a nutshell, there are no standout candidates. No one that is available with a good reputation, good coaching record, and a solid recruiter. Basically, we are going to have to hire someone away from a job they already have.

Chuck Amato fired, NC State job open as well. That makes it ASU, Miami, and NC State open so far (there may be more already, not sure)

All the same people who said Carroll wouldn't be able to recruit either
There's a big difference - USC recruits itself while most people outside this state confuse ASU with Arizona and vice versa. And there's literally hundreds of Pac-10 caliber players within 100 miles of USC every year that were looking for a reason to go to USC, whereas programs like ASU/Arizona have to outwork the competition and Dave Mac nor Chow were never known as a tireless workers.

Jim Harbaugh is a very interesting name which I have previously mentioned although he will end up in Ann Arbor when Carr retires. Retreads like Neuheisel, Price, and Erickson all have serious baggage. People always point out Pete Carroll and USC when hiring former NFL coaches, but for every hire like that you have Wannstedt/Pitt, Groh/Virginia, Gailey/Georgia Tech, and Shula/Alabama.

Watching Fox Sports "Sound Off" with Kevin McCabe, Mark Asher, and others..... Asher said he was at the press conference when Lisa Love addressed the media regarding Koetter getting fired. He said Love made a point that she wants to go after a big named coach who is having recent success. Asher said he expects her to give Bobby Petrino the full court press. Whether he comes here or not is a totally different story. He would be an unreal hire.

Another candidate who will be interviewing for plenty of head coaching jobs is Bo Pelini. He is slowly becoming my favorite and will make a great head coach. He has done great jobs at big time schools as a coordinator- Ohio State, Nebraska, and LSU. It's time for him to get his shot, if it was in Tempe I'd be very happy

:D.. Grobe is Wake Forest's Head Football Coach.

What a fantastic season they've had. That offense would require a TOTAL overhaul of our personnel however. If you've watched Wake play, you know they run one of the most unique offenses in the country. Carpenter couldn't do it, no way.

Petrino has turned down overtures from Notre Dame, Florida, Auburn, LSU, and the NFL yet he will go to ASU where he would likely have to take a sizeable paycut? Lisa Love must not have a gag reflex if she pulls that one off.

If I were Lisa Love, I'd interview (in no particular order)-

Bo Pelini
Jim Fassel
Dave McGinnes
Norm Chow (not too high on)

Get permission to talk to these current head coaches-

Tom O'Brien
Bobby Petrino
