WICHITA, Kan. — The Texas Tech basketball team is off to the second round of March Madness and will play again on Saturday.
The 3-seed Red Raiders (26-8) defeated 14-seed UNC Wilmington 82-72 on Thursday night in INTRUST Bank Arena to give Grant McCasland his first NCAA Tournament victory as Texas Tech head coach, and the second of his career.
Kerwin Walton hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead the Red Raiders past the Seahawks in the first round. Elijah Hawkins added 14 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds to just miss out on a triple-double.

Texas Tech will take on 11-seed Drake on Saturday in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs, coached by McCasland's close friend Ben McCollum, defeated 6-seed Missouri 67-57 in the first game of the night session at Wichita on Thursday.
Bennett Stirtz finished with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the Bulldogs past the Tigers. He took just three shots in the second half of the game but played all 40 minutes in the 10-point win. Tavion Banks added 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals off the bench.
Texas Tech will take on Drake at 5:10 p.m. CST on Saturday inside INTRUST Bank Arena.
