I tell myself it was coaching or maybe our LBs even in a 4-3 but as I often hear that a majority of the defenses are a hybrid of a nickle formation, but we could not stop the run. Do we have at least two guys we can rotate at the position who can plug the middle... can we stop the run now we are back in a defense which from the past still works

Peters and Pierre. If we pick up Mosley and add Bosa our linebacking Corp will be lights out and make our d line all the better.

Peters maybe, but he's getting up their in age. I think you need to have two big unmovable objects which you can rotate to be sound at that position so they can stay fresh and allow the LBs to make plays

Peters and Gunter (DT/DE).

That's what it was before last season with a touch of X. Williams who they let go.

Danny Shelton, New England's back up NT is a FA, and stout rotational run stoppers can be found later in the draft.

Corey Peters is the guy. I would love to see us sign Grady Jarrett in free agency. Adding him and Bosa to the front seven would be awesome.

Peters and Gunter (DT/DE)

I see no issue with these two rotating at NT.

One would hope Olson Pierre can regain his effectiveness at DE, as well.

On paper I would put the following out as your starting 3-4 DL.

Gunter
Peters
Pierre

with the backups (as it stands now)

Nkimdiche
Valentine
________

The Cardinals still have Vincent Valentine, not sure if he is NFL talent, but he could play NT, and believe he did so for the Patriots earlier on in his career.

I would not hurt for the Cardinals to pick up a DE, but it is not critical, IMHO. Robert Nkimdiche is strictly a backup/situational/depth player at this point.

That all being said, the Cardinals still have to re-sign Rodney Gunter who is currently.

That all being said, there are some solid depth DE's out there, and Robert Nkimdiche seemed like he played better in a 4-3 (maybe use him for trade bait in the draft?). So, I would not be surprised if they signed one of the following in free agency.

Henry Anderson
Damion Square
Brent Urban
Grady Jarrett
Darius Philon
Christian Covington
Zach Kerr (Played for the Broncos last year, could play NT, has the body for it)

NT: 1. Peters 2. Gunter 3. Valentine 4. Tasini 5. FA 6. draft
DE: 1. Nk 2.Pierre 3. (Mayowa, Malveaux, Moore) 4. FA 5. draft
OLB: 1. Jones 2. Bosa (draft) 3. Golden (UFA?) 4. Dora 5. FA 6. draft

Ideally, we'd want 6 interior linemen - 2 weighing around 320 (the NT's) and 4 weighing 285 - 310 (the DE's).

Nkemdiche (if he survives) is more suitable size-wise for DE. While Peters and Gunter fit well as NT's, we really need to be 2-deep at all three interior line positions due to physical toll/durability concerns.

(Stating the obvious) many of the unsung young defenders who lined up at DE in the 4-3, will have to move to OLB in the 3-4.

I suspect that our run-defense challenges will be addressed more by each dude we put in place rather than the scheme.

Renell Wren in the 3rd.

The ASU/Cardinals group loves to boost up N’Keal, but never say a thing about Renell Wren, & even though he’s not the hot commodity N’Keal is, you still don’t see anything.

I'll take the job if they cant find anyone. 6'2" and 352 makes me a bowling ball that is hard to push backwards...awesome for run downs....of course,...I wont be providing much pressure these days...you know,...knees, back,...being over 50.... But I'll stuff me some run plays!!

I think they'll find a Tasini type to be Peter's official backup, but he won't dress on game day, with Gunter as the emergency starter on game day if Peters gets injured. And Gunter would rotate at DE and maybe a couple times a game at NT if needed, but probably not needed because they'll be in nickel alot?

I think they messed up not trying to resign Gunter earlier, during the season. Was that not a possibility? Maybe they'll be willing to overpay some to keep him. His versatility does kind of free up half a roster spot on game day. So that would seem to add to his value.

Wrenn is getting a lot of national pub right now. Dude is in the top tier of athletes on the defensive line. He's a perfect 5 tech, end/tackle hybrid. I wouldnt be surprised to see him be better in the NFL.

Ledyard at the The Draft Network (that had the great write up on Bosa) has Renell Wren ranked as his 123rd best player post-season. Our first pick in the third round may be a bit early.

He also has N’Keal Harry ranked at #20.

Khalen Saunders would be a nice pick at NT in middle rounds

Daylon Mack of Texas A&M would be a good get in the middle rounds.

Loved Daylon Mack coming out of high school but he didn’t really live up the expectations in college. His work ethic is a huge question mark. Reminds me of Nkemdiche.

Would much rather draft Greg Gaines out of Washington. He has a very high motor and was impossible to move off the line.

I think we go with this route and make NT a major priority next offseason (potentially as our number one pick). Too much to fix right now. Wait for an elite option

NT isn't really a position you need an elite option. All we need is a big space eater who demands double teams. Of course you take the elite option when you luck into one, but this isn't a position where you necessarily look for elite options.

We're at the top of the first round, so I agree, but if we were later...that's where you get someone like Haloti Ngata.
