There are only 2 to maybe 3 teams with a better secondary than the Cards. With the exception of Denver they also don't have as good a Dline that we have. We will be fine. Not worried one bit.

Just because hes better than BW doesn't mean hes a great corner. Its the difference between a D+ guy and C+ guy.

Im worried. But not much we can do at this point. No good corners left on the market. We might have to double team the #2 WR alot

What grade would you have given Jeraud Powers last season ?

It would be interesting to know what we are comparing Bethel, Williams and Jenkins to.

I dont believe anyone has ever said he was great just yet. Like I said, the only air of relief is from people saying its only camp yet being told over and over that Johnson was taking the starting job because he looked good in practice.

IMO Bethel will be fine and is our best option at corner and the m,roe reps he gets, the better he will be. Dude is a freak athletically, its just a matter of learning the position more.

Dude. Bethel was a corner in college and has been working with the corner group for the last three seasons. At some time you reach the point of dimishing returns and just accept that this is who he is.

Last season, Powers was pretty bad. Ironically, I thought he was doing okay. Seasons before (like in 2014), he was pretty good, but I thought he was bad.

I think that strong and consistent play on the corners is going to be even more important because we're missing Rashad Johnson.

I like Powers. Hes not great by any means, but hes better than any other #2 we currently have.

Bethel is our #2 IMO. All of this talk about Williams being a starter from the beginning of camp was simply BA sending a message to Bethel. Now, I think Bethel will struggle as well but at least he has several years of experience in this system.

With that said I like what I have seen from Williams so far. However he has a lot to learn about playing the CB position still. I wouldn't want to see him starting right away but given some time I'm optimistic about his future.

Powers was not bad last season, especially not if compared to Bethel.

If you grade bethel a C, than powers would at least have been a B+. I would grade it more like Bethel D, Powers B-. Obviously Powers is not Peterson, but as has been discussed other then denver and washington, I don't know who else has 2 top 20 corners on the same team.

Any corner that is opposite of Patrick is going to look somewhat bad, after all receivers catch more than 60% of their targets usually. It is really more about having a corner that does not give up big plays consistently, and having a corner that changes the perception that it is an easy reception if you throw it their direction.

I do think the main thing both Bethel and Williams need is experience. I think both will improve a lot with it. Unfortunately it is a tough thing to do giving them that experience while we are trying to go to the superbowl, but at this point we don't have much choice. But I think if we do stick with one or the other, by midseason, whoever is getting the time will become at least a C corner which should be good enough.

Talib and Harris Jr. are a very formidable duo.

Other than that, every "shutdown" corner has an average to subaverage corner on the other side.

If anyone does have two stud corners or even a great one and a good one... well, they will lose that good one who will then be paid as a great one since even a good CB is hard to find and you have so much cap space

Really...

You want to see a guy get beat deep, watch Powers last season. Ok in slot. Stunk as a #2.

I can live with a couple deep balls a game, that's why we have safety help.

My concern is 7-12 yards which is where games are won and lost. Powers was serviceable in this range, more than Bethel.

As said. Serviceable underneath not outside.

??? you say "as said" like inside/outside short/deep are mutually exclusive. Mike Floyd on the outside can still catch an 8 yard slant.

I said Powers is better 7-12 yards. Doesn't matter if its on the Z, X or slot.

Powers was the victim of giving up multiple deep throws last season. When people say he's better suited to play slot, it's because he's better suited to play slot. Yes, Bethel struggled as well, but he wasn't worse than Powers. IMO, Bethel is more physical and is better suited as an outside CB. His technique is a work in progress, so it'll be interesting to see how much he's progressed, if at all.

And let's stop with the Brandon Williams love affair for now. Dude is not ready to start in the NFL. He's a rookie, and up to this point, has played like a rookie. Here's hoping he develops into a solid #2 sooner rather than later, but as of now, Bethel should be the starter.

Go watch Powers last season against the Seahawks in their house and the Bengals in AZ, and see if he could stop anything inside / outside / short / deep / Z / X / slot.

this is making me nervous since the team keeps having reports of eying other corners... clearly they have little faith in any of these guys.... i was excited for brandon williams but it looks like it may take a season or 2 for him and we cant leave a player on an island like bethel late last year who wasn't ready as every team will pick on whoever is across from pp

And then see Bethel starting against the Browns and Ravens. This is before HB is injured. Tested often and holding up

Who were the quarterbacks and wide receivers for those teams? It was like playing in the preseason, and he STILL didn't look good, merely not disasterous.

Those games were before the bye week; Bethel got WORSE the more he was on the field.

Looked good against Green Bay in the season game. (IMO)
