You can always ignore posts if you wish to do so.

And if you think this board is so irrational then why exactly are you still here?

I agree with Phrazbit in this instance. If you are going to post a tweet without any additional commentary then it's probably best you post a tweet that is from a credible source. Posting that alone makes it seem like you are reporting what the tweet says. At the least it appears you endorse what it says. So either add some commentary or stand by it when it's called into question.

If you were to add something like "Saw this tweet, account only has 100 followers so take it with a grain of salt..." that would be appreciated and we would know you don't fully believe it but thought it was worth sharing.

Since Monty Williams and the Portland assistants are involved in the playoffs we may not hear anything until their team is eliminated from the playoffs. However, we might get a hint if the Lakers hire Ty Lue. I was sort of hoping to hear something from the Lakers today.

I'm hoping they hire Lue so we have a shot at Williams if that is who we want.

We announced the hiring of Igor on May 2nd last year, which was also the day of game 2 for the Jazz & Rockets series in the 2nd round. So if we do hire Monty Williams or someone from the Blazers, don't expect the announcement to be delayed while they're still active in the playoffs. The only thing that would be held off is an introductory press conference. I can't recall if Igor had one last year or not, I only looked up when he was hired and when the Jazz played last postseason.

This is good to know. I expected to hear something after the NFL draft but then remembered the playoffs might be a hindrance. My guess we should hear something soon from the Lakers or the Suns.

I hope that we get to hear from Bower whenever the coach is named. I was a little disappointed James Jones handled the press conference on his own when Igor was canned. I don't believe Bower had a press conference to introduce him to Suns fans or the media. He hasn't been on any of the sports shows either, which isn't a surprise this time of year though. I know Jones is above him but seeing the whole crew together would be nice. I could see that happening after the lottery takes place, which is May 14th.

But it was announced that Jones is Bower's superior and Jones announced that he makes all player personnel decisions.

Based on that, it won't be surprising when Jones solos the Press conference. One one hand, he is keeping Sarver out of
the limelight, which we all appreciate.

But on the other hand, with his lack of experience, everything that Jones does is a new experience for him.

Duane Rankin writes an article about why the Suns have delayed in offering Monty Williams the job. Supposedly the Suns are waiting for the Lakers to make the first offer so they can counter.

Here is an excerpt:

Suns General Manager James Jones said he wants to be swift, yet “thorough” in finding the "right guy."

He's looking for stability at that position. Jones isn’t looking for another one-and-done as was the case with Igor Kokoskov and have to find a sixth coach in six seasons.

Williams looks like the guy they want, but the Lakers want him, too. It's time to see who is going to make that first offer and how the other team counters.

The gamesmanship has begun.

IMO, it requires some speculation.

The most interesting bit in that article is that Brett Brown could be potentially be let go if the Sixers get eliminated by Raptors (which I think is fairly likely). If that's the case, Brown should be vaulted to the top of the wishlist. Maybe that's another reason they're not making an offer to Williams yet.

I hadn't thought about it much. IMO,the Suns are nearing the end of the process so I'm not sure if hiring Brett Brown is the right move. The Suns need a good long term coach. Of course, I view the Suns as further along than many. Anyway, he is a worthy candidate.

I think this has been mentioned before but I thought it's worth repeating.

Monty Williams and Jeff Bower have the same agent.

Evan Sidery‏ @esidery

Didn’t know this until @BrendonKleen14 pointed it out to me, but Monty Williams and Jeff Bower share the same agent. Something to keep an eye on as he decides between the Suns and Lakers.

Should dial up Paul Westphaul...seriously. He was an excellent coach for the team. Suns averaged 56-57 wins per season with him, I believe.

It's so quiet on the coaching searches. The teams looking for a head coach are the Lakers, Cavaliers, Grizzlies and the Suns.

The Kings have completed their search by hiring Luke Walton.

When Monty Williams makes a decision perhaps things will start to fall into place.

I try to be optimistic about Williams but it's hard to see someone beating out the Lakers no matter what Suns fans think about them.

Here is a discussion between Duane Rankin and Greg Moore of azcentral about the Suns pursuit of Monty Williams.

I'm sure it was just a mis-type, but the Kings fired Joerger and hired Walton. I mention it only because Joerger has been discussed here as a potential candidate.

Good catch. I will edit. As you point out it's the other way around. The Kings fired Dave Joerger and hired Luke Walton.

I wonder if the Suns would have interest in Dave Joerger if they should expand their search for a head coach.

The Suns will interview Monty Williams again this week this time including Robert Sarver. I'm surprised he wasn't a part of the interview process earlier.

Can Sarver just trust the BASKETBALL people HE hired to make basketball decisions? Trust them and sign off on it man. I'd hate for him to be a part of any face to face talks.

It sounds like Sarver is joining the conversation when he should, at decision making time.

I would expect an owner to be involved in such a big decision. What I wouldn't want is Sarver firing from the hip. This doesn't appear to be the case.

Hopefully his involvement is limited to bringing his checkbook and signing a big one for Monty. I don't believe there is a Suns in existence that wants Sarver involved in this but we're not lucky enough for him to stay behind entirely.

I think you nailed it. Sarver is writing the checks. Anyone has a right to know what they are buying. He has stayed in the background up to this point.

Monty would probably be the highest paid coach that Sarver has signed also. If he's drawing interest from the Lakers then that raises his price on it's own because they don't work the way the rest of the league does from a financial standpoint. I know they haven't made an offer but that doesn't matter if the Suns make the offer first. Ideally they'd make an offer that makes him accept on the spot. Since he's been a head coach before that also means he won't sign to some bargain basement deal like Hornacek, Watson, and Kokoskov.

Here's how I believe it played out, Jones tells Sarver that he intends on making an offer to him if the 2nd interview goes as well as the 1st. Sarver asks for a ballpark figure of what he'll be paying him, Jones gives it and Sarver says he's got to meet the guy that he'll be investing that much capital in. Hopefully it's no more than that and Sarver doesn't clutch onto his change purse too hard while speaking with Monty so everything goes as smooth as possible. The last thing the Suns can afford is for Monty to turn them down right now. If that happens, we're screwed. It wouldn't be that catastrophic if Monty chose LA over Phoenix but if he turns the Suns down before LA even makes an offer that's probably the worst possible outcome of this.

I find this theory absolutely illogical and thus hard to believe.

As if it is an advantage to anyone to wait until someone gets an offer from someone else.
