Many of you out there follow the cap space and salaries quite closely. We are 9m under the cap now but how much cap space will be cleared when some of the players on our current roster (and there will be some shockers) start to get cut?
Obviously some d-linemen or 2 will be cut. A reciever or 2 will be cut. Emmitt Smith SHOULD be cut and I guess a o-lineman will be slashed.
Does anybody see any significant cap savings that would help us sign more free agents?

The should approach Starks about restructuring into an incentive contract. IE, you actually play in a game, we will pay you

That dline, oline, or WR that are on the cut block right now really wont make much space to our cap space since most are paid the minimum anyways. Plus I doubt we cut anyone till after the draft maybe we cut a few guys after the end of march mini camp, but thats a big maybe.

I doubt Green cuts smith IMO.

I might be Calvin Pace who is unemployed after all is said and done. That would be strange but I get this sense he has to play himslef out of this huge doghouse just to get a shot at being a backup .

"Strange" is a word that hardly does justice.

Cutting a first rounder after one year and accelerating his bonus.

Yoiu've got to be kidding! Where's the saving?

I don't know if there would be cap savings on it. Maybe I am reading into it but Jurecki was pretty much going off about it and listening to him you get the sense Pace may be struggling just to make the team.

I think it is way too early to throw in the towel but the emphasis being put on it by MJ is a bit unusual.

I think Ryanwb gets cut. His production has fallen way off.

Yeah, Ever since he hit 6000 posts he's been coasting. Good thing the posters pro bowl is a popularity contest cause Ryans numbers just don't warrant the attention.

Where are you getting this from?

I think Green sees a chance to motivate if he is saying any of these things, but Cut? come on.

A better chance it snows in Phoenix in July.

You dont cut a 2nd year player with a 1st round contract. That would be plain dumb!

Getting cut is motivational. Poole got cut 4 times and it motivated him to make a game winning catch against Minnesota.

I think he was just speculating.

Calvin Pace was the 1st player in NFL history to start all 16 games at DE and only record 1 sack. He's a bust. We all knew it on draft day, some people tried the homer rout and pretended he wasn't.

He sticks as a backup this year but I think he won't see 2005.

So the guy does something NO other NFL player has ever done and you want to cut him (-:

I assume by taking off plays Jurecki is referring to all theplays where he got velcroed to the LT, it certainly wasn't like Simeon running out of the way of blockers on run plays or running straight up the field on pass plays now and then. but obviously Rice put up a LOT more pass rush and caused a lot fumbles and we saw none of that from Pace.

I'd be amazed if we cut him, I think it's motivational.

I think Pace just got confused by the term, "left tackle." Apparenty he thought he was supposed to tackle the tackle, not the guy with the ball. Part of Greens new strategy is to refer to opposing lineman as, "left and right runpastme."

First off he didnt start all 16 games. He did play all 16 games but he didnt start all of them. If I remember correctly, Johnson started in his place the last few weeks of the season and Wakefield started at the other DE.

Second, wow it must have been a bad year to pick d-line man. It is too bad they were all busts:

Robertson: sacks 1.5 Games 16
J. Sullivan: Sacks 1 Games 15
Kennedy: Sacks 0 Games 13
T. Warren Sacks 1 Games 16** Pace wasnt the only one
Haynes Sacks 2 Games 16
McDougle Sacks 0 Games 8

We should try and pick one of these players up since they were all busts and will probably be cut!

I disagree on Pace, although he was non-existent in pass rush , he was very solid vs the run. Hopefully the coaches we've brought in can accelerate his development. No way is he a bust. A first round pick 18th overall played in all 16 games . I certainly did'nt think he was to sole answer to our pass rush woes.

OK..again for clarity.

Jurecki was stating that on saturday he was at Cards HQ and Green came in and told them about King signing. He then started talking about Pace and the jist of it was...Pace was unimpressive to the coaches after they saw him on film. They said he took plays off. They are fired up about having used a first rounder last year and then having to go out and get a UFA this year. Pace is now a backup according to Green behind Berry.

Then, I came in after listening to this a couple times this AM (Jurecki didn;t bring this up once and move on, this was a major topic of discussion) and I speculated that Pace could end up being cut based solely on how the current coaches feel about him if he doesn;t come in fired up.

Now, I have said it at least twice...it is too early to give up on Pace IMO. I was merely taking info from the Cards insider and then adding my own thought to what the final outcome may be. I do not agree with cutting Pace...in fact, I was surprised to hear what was being said since, quite frankly, I thought PAce was giving solid effort all year.

It may be motivational but if Pace doesn't get motivated by it, I think it is not out of the realm of possibility he could get his walking papers.

Does this clear it up?

It does clear up where you heard this, but doesnt make your arguement any stronger:

Cutting Pace after 1 year, as you say, ' Is out of the realm of possibility' It would be one of the most bonehead moves this organization could make. Not only from a cap standpoint but also from the standpoint that he is only a 2nd year player.

Why do you think I am arguing it? Do you not see me agreeing with you?

On a few other threads I saw you making the proclimation that Pace might be cut by season start.

I understand now. Sorry for the confusion!

I think it is possible but it would be a mistake to give up this fast. I mean, if he were a 3 year vet and nothing had changed that is one thing, but it was one year for God's sake. Some first rounders don't even make the field year one and we threw Pace to the wolves.

The thing that bothers me the most is the insinuation by Jurecki that the coaches, after reviewing the game tapes, claimed he wasn't trying very hard and from what I saw...with my admittedly untrained eye, was PAce was always trying and things just didn;t happen for him. I don't get that part of it.

If you look at the official Cardinals stats, Pace only had 32 tackles, but did have a resounding 13 QB pressures, which was almost double the number from each of the other DEs.

Pace started all 16 games at DE. Give him a better coach that Mean Joe Greene, and he will get better.

For a very unpolished player coming out of college he was also forced into the starting role earlier than anybody in league history. What's your point?

Yea we can cut him and the Eagles can pick him up and start him beside Darwan Walker[another 1 year bust].
