Hire someone young with modern ideas and a more recent relationship with colleges and college age kids. Someone inventive, who is a free thinker, way outside the NFL mindset.
3) Mike Vrabel-at some point he's going to be the guy somewhere. Knows the game & learned from the master in BB.
4) Matt Patricia-learned from one of the best in BB. DC of some very solid defenses despite limited talent though they've had a dropoff early this season
if not Jim I'd like to see the Cards interview Pat Patricia from NE
Vrabel coaches in Houston....and has had some success. His defense is not top 10 right now but they are solid and have had their own issues to deal with. Part of the reason I like Vrabel is because he left NE and still shows signs of being successful... so far that hasnt really happened with anyone else that I am aware of.I seen these two brought up a couple times.
Belichek is know for his defense, I get it. But, the Patriots defense is less than impressive this year, and one could debate last year.
If you want to take from New England (which RARELY works by the way), then I would go with an offensive mind, Josh McDaniels is the known name but his tenure as a head coach was pretty poor.
Not to mention, you have to have the personnel.
With all due respect to the New England organization that has been a Super Bowl contender every year for almost two decades, what would they be without Tom Brady ?
That is the question, because without Brady is the defense coached in a way that would really merit head coaching interest ? Same goes for the offense.
The coach would come into a situation here at Arizona where the cupboard is bare, no quarterback let alone Tom Brady, and a defense that is more hype than production.
Again, I am not saying it is horrible decision to pick a person from New England, but the coaches named are not coaches I would see as head coach material, IMHO, for the reasons above.

Futhermore, I get it with the whole Matt Patricia thing, he is a guy that used to be a salesman, and was given a rare opportunity to pass over putting his time in as a coach and has worked his way to becoming a defensive coordinator for New England. I think that if the Cardinals chose this guy as a head coach it would be like how this organization likes to go small school in drafts, and be too cute with their moves. Being part of the system in New England is one thing, but having to stand up by himself with his background and get men to play for him is another. I think Patricia is a very poor choice. But, that is just my very humble opinion.

Then the question is who ? Making matter worse for this post, I do not know.
Every time I think about head coaching in the NFL circa 2017, I just see what pro-style NFL football was dying off, and what you see in the college game taking over. Which goes against a lot of what I believe in football philosophically.
Just look at some of my comments in regards to Chip Kelly no less than 2 years ago. At this point Kelly may just be a guy before his time, and not the passing fad I had him for.
Again, I do not know.
everyone keeps calling him Pat............pretty sure his name is Matt Patricia....MGood write up
I think many like the coaching staff of NE because they know the winning formula. It's like making food....if someone has a great recipe and you follow the exact process precise to the orig. you are now considered a great cook.
They know the formula the best. The system is tried and true.
While Jim H is my 1st pick...and I'd sell the farm to get him...as I know he'd rebuild the farm and get us another 2 farms...
I could live with Pat P.

I loved chucky when he was coaching. But my gut tells me his time has passed.xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media
all for thatBruce Arians with a new defensive coordinator with a record of success and a new special teams coordinator with a record of success (sort of like how Andy Reid fills his positions).
I’ll stay the hell away from Haley. I really do have a bad feeling of him becoming a HC again.Pat Shurmur
Josh McDaniels
Todd Haley
all are worth a serious look.
Shaw
Harbaugh
are pipe dreams IMO. I don't believe they would leave their current situations for ours.
Mike Vrabel is the former defensive NE coach who I would look at. Matt Patricia is meh. His anti Goodell gear last year turned me off.
I personally don't love the defensive head coach route with how it leads to turnover on the offensive coaching side.
Haley failed for a reason, but he warrants a serious look to see if something has changed. Chip Kelly is similar in that way. You know why his stint failed. Gotta talk to him to see if anything is different.I’ll stay the hell away from Haley. I really do have a bad feeling of him becoming a HC again.
Like the Pats failed hiring Bellicheat away from the Jets? LolI’ll stay the hell away from Haley. I really do have a bad feeling of him becoming a HC again.
Frank Reich is there offensive coordinator and Jim Schwartz is their defensive coordinator. Schwartz had a go as the Lions head coach and failed miserably.Any Philly assistants worth a look?
