I’m confused, yet again by BASK... can’t figure out why they kept Gabbert. Since we already 100% know that Stanton is absolutely not our QBOF, why start him?? Why wouldn’t we go with Gabbert and find out DURING THIS SEASON, when the bullets are live, if he shows he can be our QBOF? Does BASK really believe it’s prudent to go into next season having not taken a nice, extended look at Gabbert in true real game situations?
The chance of Palmer coming back next year is so remote... and even if he does, is that really our best option?? Do BASK think they can head into the offseason in dire need of a legit NFL starter, with the strategy of grabbing a guy in the draft? A trade? Free agency??
I honestly can’t figure these guys out... But I’m pretty convinced that not playing Gabbert is a very, very dark foreshadowing of what’s to come. Not only a super-craptastic finish to this season, but many more years of battling the 9ers for the rights to the basement dwelling position in the NFC West. Ugh...

Stanton could be a better option right now because he knows 100% of the playbook. There is no way Gabbet does. As the 3rd QB he doesn't run our offense in practice.

But the potential could be there for him next year so they keep him.

This season is toast. BASK knows it. We all know it. The players themselves know it. The “potential” that could be there next year for Gabbert is so off on so many levels and that type of thinking is precisely why this team will head into the 2018 season, STILL in search of a QBOF... crazy...

Why would Gabbert need to know the whole playbook? They only run like, 6 plays or something.

Peterson right
Peterson left
Peterson up the middle
Deep ball to one of the Browns
Short out to Fitz.

The end

I still see the the same thing. Hang around .500 till DJ gets back and hopefully squeek into the playoffs and then who knows.

Probably wont happen but if Ariens believes it is possible he has to try. HAS to try. Remember that we are a half game under .500 in a weak NFC.

Don't worry, if they lose the next couple games there will still be plenty of time to roll over and show your pink underbelly.

I think they are playing Stanton right now because, as sad as it is, they think he gives them the best chance to win. I'll bet Gabbert is in there within 3 weeks, unless Stanton miraculously leads the Cards to victories.

Good plays!

Where is the deep crossing route to Brittan Golden ?

Because BA knew Palmer wouldn’t survive the season, so he’d need a third QB. I’m sure he’d have selected Ryan Lindley, out of loyalty, but he’s busy in Canada!

Gabbert should get playing time this season to find out what we have.

I don't want BA to trot out Gabbert next season as the starting QB without knowing his capability.

Play the man or at least give him consistent playing time behind Stanton.

Trade bait. I think they viewed Gabbert as trade bait for a desperate team whose QB went down. Secondarily I think they view him has low risk/high reward experiment which will make them look like geniuses should it pan out.

It is apparent they believe Stanton gives them the best chance to win games and that is all they are about...winning games.

I don't believe they will play Gabbert at all as long as Stanton is at a minimum competitive. Given the fact the team is being accused of quitting and feeling embarrassed about how they play I suspect they will suddenly be competitive.

Maybe the BASK boys have performance based incentives in their contracts and they don't like extra money.

No kidding. Stanton doesn't run the full offense anyways, so why the emphasis on someone that knows the playbook?

Stanton will probably get hurt in the next week or two anyway. At that point even stubborn Arians will have to play him. Then we'll find out if there is ANY hope. Two things are absolutely certain! Stanton is a great cheerleader and a below average NFL quarterback.

maybe Gabberts escape ability may cause them to win an extra game or two thereby destroying their plans for the draft

I think Stanton gets his chance for two or three games and then Gabbert takes over. I just can't see Bidwill watching the team lose 30-0 any longer than three weeks before he pulls the plug on Stanton himself.

I think the ghosts of 2014 and Ryan Lindley having to start a playoff game have always been lurking around somewhere in the back of their heads.

I'm pretty convinced that they came into this offseason and preseason thinking 2016 was an aberration and that this team was still a title contending unit despite it's age and all of the departures on the D. A new kicker and some duct tape on the defense and they figured they were good.

They decided that they were good enough to have the luxury of paying for a million dollar insurance policy as the 3rd QB in the event that 2014 scenario should come to fruition, so they would at least have a guy that belongs on the fringes of an NFL roster ready to step in.

I'd venture to guess that they also do see some upside to him based on the physical tools he possesses and once again think they are smarter than everyone else and can somehow get more out of him than he has ever proven capable of.

LOL. Maybe Ariana doesn’t want to play Gabbert because he’s a historically awful QB.

That is what seems to be lost in all this. Gabbert is a poor QB. What he did in preseason was against players who are working the local drive thru.

Arians and Keim know exactly what they have in Gabbert.

But, but, but, but, but how can you say these bad things about Gabbert being a bad QB. We have the QB whisperer, all will be okay. Arians will whisper sweet nothings in Gabbert's ear and he will turn into a fine QB.
