I was trying to explain the early AOL days of the internet to my kids the other day. It blew their mind that it took hours to download a single song. lol

It's more fun trying to explain the internet days before AOL.

So much truth there... Facebook groups that you can start at the drop of a hat, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, et al. Message boards are a thing of the past.

I hate that they are dying.

Bingo, FB has taking alot away from forums. People are ok with the ability to jump from one group to the next. It's sad, but that's what happened. Forums are not dead and never will be, they did take a hit, but from what I see, they have settled in and hopefully will be on the raise again soon.

I lurk often, post A LOT less. Too busy. I have an 11 month old, 5 year old, 8 year old, and two step children.

I am working as an Army Recruiter right now so I have a lot on my plate.

This is the first time I've had to check this forum in 3 days. I must say this thread is awesome. Cheese a company man! Now that is too rich...

I hear you though. I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old and they are both in club sports. My son had a soccer tournament this weekend and he made the championship game on Sunday. Yay! However the Championship game started at 1:30pm. Booo! So I had to unload my Cardinals vs Bucs tickets. This weekend I was so busy that forgot to tape the Cardinal game.

:bang:

Oh well, I just listened to the last quarter on the way home from the tournament. Sucks missing a good blow out like that.

You want to know how busy I was this weekend. I had no idea that there were bombs that went off in NY and NJ till this morning.

Misery loves company. More to talk about when we were struggling.

ASFN is family. Always will be.

Other than a sweeps site and Facebook, I don't post anywhere else.

Not happy with the traffic - post more.

BIM

I agree with BIM, when the team was bad there was a lot more moaning and groaning and bitchin and such. Back and forth about players and who should be starting and who we should be pursuing, coaches who didn't seem to know their arse from a hole in the ground and on top of that an incompetent front office gave us plenty to talk and post about. Now we have a competent front office and pretty good HC and staff save the special teams coach and players that can actually play football at the NFL level and the ship has been set on a course. I used to read some post threads just to follow the arguments between tow or three posters. Now we don't have that and there isn't a need for that.

The agitators have been sent into the fiery chasm from whence they came known as permanent banning and the football knowledge here may be second to none.

When our biggest discussion is whether Williams should be the starting RCB and if Shipley is the starting Center then we have come a long way as had the team. If you want to blame some one for less posting and fewer discussions then blame SK and BA for doing too good a job and making this team a contender. Damn these two guys!

There is just a hell of a lot less to bitch about concerning this team which will always cause a rise in posts. Following this team since 1967 and now finally feeding at the table of success, I for one rather like it.

Every time I post we lose. So I don't post.
I'm also a company man, and that takes a lot of my time.

Always enjoyed your posts but a company man has to do what is expected of him. Thing is you really haven't posted much since we have become good.

Chatter is more common when there are negative things to say, it's human nature

I honestly think it is a reflection of what social media has done to interactive anything on the internet: turned it into a place where people go to complain instead of a place where people go to discuss things. People spend far less time talking about their happiness than they do complaining and with pretty much everyone having the web and being able to use it now, it's been inundated with more of this wonderful human element.

My 2 cents. I've changed, my life has changed dramatically especially in the last year plus.

And I don't know if it's me or the board but as I have mentioned before the board at times drives me to tune out because of the incredible overanalysis that goes on during and especially after the season leading up to the draft. It sounds like that sort of "chatter" is what you actually want more of so it may just be me. But the constant analysis over which UDFA is going to be the steal for us and which guy I've never heard is going to be a star. that stuff used to interest me but now it's so magnified on this board that I tune all that out.

I'm actually somewhat embarassed to admit that during the first game 3 different times I had to look up a number to see who a player on the Cards, not the Patriots, was.

I think the NFL as a whole is over exposed, Thurs games 3 games on Sundays, Monday games sometimes 2 Monday games, all the pre and post game talk etc. It's reached the point where I'm on overload.

But again I know I've changed my life circumstances have sort of made that happen to me so I'm probably in the extreme minority.

I hear you Russ, like you my life has changed over the last year, I have retired and moved from Pa to SC. AS for the board I agree there are times where things get picked apart to the Nth degree that I stop reading those posts. Then there are some where posts are being made just to post and they don't add anything to it. Some I just don't care about. I tend to post in spurts. Sometimes I just don't have anything to add so why post just to post. Other times I have a lot to say and lately I have been posting quite a bit, at least for me.

I always enjoy the posts by Mitch, Catfish, K9, you and others even though sometimes K9 makes my blood boil but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I used to watch the pre game shows but can't anymore because they so much about nothing. I don't even watch as many games as I used to. I try to see every possible Cardinal games and will even go to a bar that has NFL ticket to see a game once in awhile.

There are even times and I come to this board at least twice a day and I see the same threads involving the same subjects and I just pass them on by and go to another web site. That all said, I still value this board and I get tons of info from it. I still consider it family and will never forget the out pouring of wishes and support when my wife passed away almost 9 years ago. That I will always keep in my heart.

What hot takes would you like to see served up? All the people who thought Brandon Williams wasn't going to be a dumpster fire have slithered back under rocks. That Brandon Williams is bad is the only hot take out there.

Other threads that were missing out on:
- D.J. Williams isn't as bad as he could be in a limited sample size!
- Deone Bucannon: still out there, doing his thing and not making big plays!
- A.Q. Shipley: really the best option at center?

There's just an astounding amount of consensus on this board, and until Palmer wets the bed in January again (or doesn't), the takes are pretty light.

Totally agree. In years past the loss to the Patriots would have been a Chicken Little event on this board where many would claim the sky is falling and the Cardinals are toast.

However the reaction of this board to that loss shows how much confidence this board has with this team now. The Cardinals played sub-par, lost and pretty much no one on this board panicked. That says a lot!

Some of the terrible moderators drove out a lot of the early posters because they disagreed with their iBuddies on things. Now the board is dying, they are getting what they wanted, a board mostly of people that all think alike. Boring.

Yawn.

Message boards are outdated. Reddit, twitter, Facebook groups, even Google + for that matter all have major advantages technically and are easier to use. I lurk here once in awhile, but there are just other options. There were some good debates over the years but what made it good was putting faces to names. The actual, real, relationships made it good. Maybe there can be a big event like class reunion or something for all the fans from the old days, in person, to once in awhile recapture what once was. Like a real event, not a quick halftime meet. The past, what it was, is never coming back folks.

I'm thinking we need to put this together as maybe a once per year type of thing. I have thought about that a lot recently actually.
