I keep hearing these INSANE draft proposals (DRC and a 1st rounder, serously?) for Kolb and I keep hearing people saying; 'YES BRING HIM IN!'

The guy has started 7 games in his career. One of the main supporters of him is Gambo, Gambo keeps saying; "He's so accurate." His career accuracy is 60.8%, and he's thrown more INT's than TD's. Based off stats, he's not that accurate. Not enough that I would say; "Give up a first round picks and a boatload of cash cuz OMG he's so accurate!"

I'll stop there because I dont want to bash Kolb, I just want one of the Kolb supporters to explain to me what they see in this guy (other than, Wowzers! Did you see those two good games he had against SF and ATL?)

What about this guy justifies the Cardinals giving up a 1st round pick (and probably more than that based on rumors) and dont forget, its not just the trade, once he gets here, Kolb wants a new contract where he is paid "STARTER MONEY."

I honestly dont get it. This guy was a backup who had his chance to take over the Eagles and the Eagles had enough doubts in him that they brought in Mr. PR NIGHTMARE Mike Vick, and gave Kolb a short enough leash that all it took was one concussion and he lost his starting job. I know Vick played well, but it's pretty obvious the Eagles were making plan (B) well in advance.

Now Andy Reid is doing PR all over the place hyping up Kolb and how much their being offered for him and saying that Kolb "Makes a team a championship contender." Seriously, I call BS. It soulds like they're tryin to dump their backup QB and at the same time, hype him up beyond reality in order to get some gullible team to take the bait. I hope we aren't that team...

So anyone? I know we need a QB but please tell me why Kolb is the best choice and why he warrants what we're being asked to give up for him... I see a lot of people yelling KOLB KOLB (Especially Gambo on 620) without giving any reason why other than; "Duhh, this guys a friggin stud, forgetabboutit."

I am with you. I have seen this guy play, and I keep seeing Josh McCown in comparison.

Takes to long to read defenses, and actually has a weaker arm than McCown and less mobility.

Plus Kolb's numbers are skewed playing in the Philly's pass every down offense.

Why overrated. I really do not want to see him coming to the Cardinals.

For a second, maybe, a first, no thanks. Id still prefer Palmer.

Agree. If the Cardinals cough up a first round pick for Kolb, they are over-paying. I'd give Philly a conditional first, if the Cardinals win the Super Bowl, the Eagles get our first, otherwise it's a second.

I wouldn't mind giving up a first, but that's it.

He may not have the ceiling that a draft pick has, but he's considerably safer. ...and given this team's track record of first round QBs, "safe" is really very important--especially right now, where the team is still poised to own this division for the next few years.

1. Our current QBs are Anderson/Skelton/Hall, who combined for a 60.5 rating last year.

2. The other free agent options include Hasselbeck, Bulger, JP Losman, Kerry Collins, etc. Palmer and Orton might be available for trade, but we still don't have confirmation. The latest word is that Palmer isn't leaving.

3. Kolb will turn 27 just before the beginning of the season. It's extremely difficult to get a potential starting QB in his twenties through free agency. Drew Brees is one. There aren't many others.

4. Kolb's stats from last year were skewed by the last game of the year. I know people hate to omit certain games from overall stats, but he was playing with the Eagles' 2/3 string offense against the Cowboys' first string defense. He was essentially running for his life the whole time. Without that game, his stats would have been: 63% comp, 6 TDs, 4 INTs, 6.8 ypa, 85.3 rating. You can win with those kind of numbers.

5. Fitz will leave if the QB situation isn't figured out. That's just how it is. The team shouldn't have been in this position in the first place, but here we are.

6. Whis can't afford to lose this year. Botching the QB situation so dramatically last year had to cut into his grace period. If this team goes 4-12 and the stadium doesn't sell out anymore, Whis could be out of here sooner than any of us imagined. Graves, too. The Bidwills are loyal to a fault sometimes, but I can't imagine they want to lose a bunch of revenue to keep Rod and Whis around. They are running a business first and foremost.

Those are just my top six. There are more. I don't want to trade a first rounder for him, but I can understand the reasoning behind it.

I would have to agree. Kolb did have a couple of good starts in 2009...and he blew up. But last year the job was his to lose and he lost it. to his defense vick played better than everyone expected, but we all know vick has a ceiling. The fact that the eagles are clearly trying to talk this guy up to get value out of him just goes to show that they realize he is not the superbowl contending QB that andy reid claims that he will be one day. If he was kolb would be the clear starter...not vick. I mean no one is going to trade an asset like that away when they have an older starter(who can't win a SB) at QB.

There may be a market for kolb as almost half of the NFL teams are deseperate to find a starter that can get their team to the playoffs. But teams are foolish if they are going to give up a lot to get this guy.

Sure he does, and it's sky-high.

You can't blame Kolb for not beating out Vick. You just can't. Even Vick haters admit that.

vick's ceiling is sky high. it is the NFC championship game.(just my opinion and it lines up with the results as well).

as for kolb, no I don't blame him for losing to vick. I'm just going by what I have seen. He lost a game to dallas to end the year when dallas was playing its third string starter. both teams were playing backups so its hard to tell, but he doesn't strike me as a guy that has the potential to be what andy is saying. If he were....there's no way I think the eagles would trade him given the unstability of a guy like vick.

If we accept that premise, it's still better than most QBs out there. It's on par with Phillip Rivers...and your boy Romo.

The QB comparison Kolb brings to mind is Pete Liske.

For those of you under 100 years old, Liske was a system QB who came out of Penn State. His forte was that, although he wouldn't wow you, he wouldn't do anything really dumb either. Give him a strong supporting cast (including a good O-line) and he could operate your offense without embarrassing you.

Put him behind the Cardinal offensive line and you get a 2-inch taller, slightly more experienced version of Max Hall throwing out of a man-hole.

Nothing wrong with that; except that Hall was a UDFA while they're asking for more than a #1 for Kolb.

He doesn't impress me - I don't think he has the arm to support a vertical offense in the manner we've grown accustomed.

What's "unstable" about Vick? Are you referring to injury concerns? That's not really "instability."
I agree with you last post about vick's ceiling(and romo/rivers). although I think rivers is clearly a better QB.

as far as vick's stability....it is the whole thing. he has made a lot of mistakes on and off the field. do I think he learned his lesson and is making the most out of his second chance? yes....and I am not a vick hater. however, he must continue to work hard to sustain his success or he could have a relapse. I commend the guy.

I've already posted 100 times about Kolb, trying to cut down. I still don't see the DRC thing, I'm still thinking it it will be our first and probably a 3rd or 4th. People will go nuts in here but not me.
He's got the talent, I won't go into detail
He's not the questionable rookie, I won't go into detail
He's not the old "I'm sorry we are doing so good but my body/mind can't handle the NFL any longer."...I won't go in to detail.

Kolb brings it all , Then now, the future, the throws, the chance to grow with our new rookies. I like Palmer too but I'll be happy with either. Palmer is a bit bore bonafide(?) but I like Kolb's game and where his head is at.
Peace,love, and KOLB. :D

1. Our current QBs are Anderson/Skelton/Hall, who combined for a 60.5 rating last year.

Our QBs sucking doesn't make Kolb a better player. His worth should be determined by his ability, not our lack of ability.

2. The other free agent options include Hasselbeck, Bulger, JP Losman, Kerry Collins, etc. Palmer and Orton might be available for trade, but we still don't have confirmation. The latest word is that Palmer isn't leaving.

I'd take Hasselbeck over Kolb any day of the week. He's got a much better record as a starter. Yes he gets banged up, but so does Kolb so far in his career.

3. Kolb will turn 27 just before the beginning of the season. It's extremely difficult to get a potential starting QB in his twenties through free agency. Drew Brees is one. There aren't many others.

True, but there have been plenty of mid 20 QBs with 7 or fewer career starts and sub 80 QB ratings.

We can play games with stats all we want. The one that scares me the most is his sub .500 record as a starter including losses to the 6-10 Titans and 6-10 Redskins, when McNabb and Vick have been around .600 or higher over the same time. I don't want a guy who's team is less likely to win with him in there regardless of what his other stats are.

5. Fitz will leave if the QB situation isn't figured out. That's just how it is. The team shouldn't have been in this position in the first place, but here we are.

He might leave but if we gamble on Kolb and he doesn't pan out, then we've screwed ourselves and he'll still leave. Kolb is far from a sure thing to solve the QB problem.

If it is about winning this year, we should be going after proven commodities, not gambling on the high risk/high reward guy. Of all QB options, Kolb has the highest ceiling but the lowest floor. It's entirely possible that we go 6-10 with Kolb or he lives up the hype and we go 12-4. It's a gamble and if we take it I'll root for him, but just remember when you gamble the house always has the favorable odds, in this case the Eagles are the house and we're the schmuck putting all our chips on bet.

I think that's what you're missing. He IS likely worth a first rounder based on ability. These backups that are ready to graduate to starter-status aren't simply evaluated by their in-game performace--there's generally precious little of that to go on. It's based on how they've grasped playbooks, acquitted themselves in practices and meeting rooms, game preseasons, and then if they've had time on the field you look at that, too.

How much PT do you think Shaub, Hasselbeck or Delhomme had before they went on to be good starters with other teams? Not much. They earned their value through showing they could be a pro.

Oh and to answer the OP.

Its very simple. No one else available is even arguably going to transform into a QBOF.

So lets try and get it done, not just for the next couple years, but for the next 10 years.

Personally I know this is going to sound crazy, but after watching him, he reminds me alot fo Kurt Warner. Similar size, all timing, and quick release in the face of rush.

He's not prefect but everything else being the same, hes the best we can get.

I think I need to remind some of you that Carson Palmer is not, I repeat, is NOT a free agent. You will have to trade for him as well.

Agree with it or not some compare Kolb to Aaron Rodgers:

Brad Wilbricht - AZ Red Report

Kolb, whose similarities with Rodgers can’t be denied. Both were allowed time to learn in quarterback friendly systems. Both learned behind a Pro Bowl caliber player. Both spent time with very stable organizations.

Kolb (6-foot-3, 218 pounds) and Rodgers (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) also boast comparable size and demonstrate similar skill-sets: a strong arm, a quick release and the ability to move in the pocket and make plays down the field.

Could Kolb develop into the next Rodgers? Absolutely. All he needs is a ticket out of Philadelphia. Arizona would be smart to provide that ticket, and despite the costly package the Eagles will be seeking. Kolb Might be worth every penny.

So you would never like the idea of drafting a 1st round QB then, right?

Its all a gamble, the draft is a 50/50 prop so is free agency? No matter how you fill the QB void it is going to be a gamble since none of them have played in our system.

Not proclaiming I want Kolb, just a philosophical difference. You have to take a gamble at some point, and any name you bring up will be a gamble.

Well, the distinction is that Kolb didn't lose his job to Vick, he lost it to injury. Vick came in a put up unexpected performances that sort of left the Eagles no choice. The fact that the Eagles were willing to get rid of McNabb (in whom many of us were interested, including myself) and statr Kolb with Vick as insurance does give Kolb a vote of confidence. The Eagles are wacky and their fans are wackier, but they are consistently good, and demands are high.
