I thought it was a "fun" article, not something to be taken seriously. Certainly not something to get riled up about. Sheesh.

I wonder if we can get by PUPPING LSH and bringing him back for Game 7 if Powell falters. It would buy time to get LSH healthy and watch both Funzie and Powell for 6 additional games.

Count me in as a Powell supporter (Albeit vs. scrubs) he carries the ball the right way - cuts on a dime, runs really low, breaks tackles, decisive to the hole, can outrun LBs etc. But you never know. It takes a village (of blockers opening holes for a runner) to him be consistently productive in the run game and our blocking is still a work in process.

Hes a dime a dozen RB. PRACTICE squad.
I disagree. The kid had some amazing moves on quite a few of his carries. I think he's got a lot of talent. Why keep Smith over him? Smith played well too, but I'd say he's a more "dime a dozen" RB than Powell...

Where was the Powell love when he had 38 carries for like 90 yards in the last game of last pre season???? ;)
This is obviously wrong considering Powell had 35 carries for 86 yards in the entire 2011 preseason.

Your right I was exaggerating... But that game in fact was 29 carries for 60 yards and a 2.1 yard average. FANTASTIC!

But Smith is a VERY good pass blocker, which he showed in regular season games.

Not to mention his 4.7 YPC against much better competition is nothing to scoff at.

Ummm who you watching? Back away from the spice! :)
I just remember this one play where he made a simulaneous cut and hurdle into the hole, leaving the would-be tackler with a broken ankle.

I think he's looked good a third teamers, no question.

But he has practice squad availability and I would try to keep Smith first, who's played decent in the regular season and like I said, he's a great pass blocker which will be valuable from a back this year.

The only issue I have with Smith is that he isn't a good runner even though he is a "running" back. Yes he can pass block, but what good is that when the defense knows you are going to pass with him in the game. Then he doesn't have the elusiveness or vision to make the defense pay for overplaying the pass. I would rather have Powell that has proven he can run the rock like a running back is supposed to be able to do.

Theres an article on the NFL site talking about how the Lions are in a dire search for RB since all of theirs are injury riddled...

....

Lets be real, Powell is just a preseason superstar, we need to strike while the irons hot. Put the full court press on Detroit. Top rusher this preseason by a mile. Some saying he looks like the next Shady Mccoy...

2nd rounder?

Im completely serious though, this would be awesome.

It's not like we will be getting a first or second rounder for this guy so why should we chance letting him go? Also keep in mind that it isn't crazy to think that our 4th string running back in week one might be starting for some part of the season considering the track record of Wells and Williams. Also keep in mind that Larod is not a feature back that can handle the load of getting 20 carries a week.

Proven? Against who? Against insurance salesmen and strip club bouncers?

Smith has played decently in the regular season, something Powell hasn't done.

Either way I won't really care too much what we do with our 4th string RB.

Ok, proven might be a bad word, but you can see 2 entirely different kind of runners when you watch them both run. Powell appears to have good vision and elusiveness. Smith on the other hand doesn't display good vision or elusiveness, just good straight line speed which doesn't mean a whole lot at the NFL level.

Smith is decent at pass blocking which is a plus with the current situation with the OL...how is Powell at it, have not watched much of the late quarters of the games
