With Gasol and Bynum both banged up, do you look at LA as seriously?

Bynum is now gone until the 1st round of the playoffs. You can kiss Bynum having any impact goodbye. There is no way he comes back during the playoffs and has much of an impact.

Where are you getting that?

Last that was said was that he'd be back playing a few games in the regular season.

In their last three games, even without Gasol and Bynum, the Lakers have:

* Opened up a 25-point lead against Dallas, only to let up and hold on to win a close one.

* Ended Utah’s 19-game home win streak, leading by as much as 24 before winning by 11.

* Beat Seattle by 25.

If they can do this kind of damage even without Gasol and Bynum, imagine how powerful they’re going to be when they get all hands back on deck.

To answer the question in the thread topic: Yes, the Lakers must be taken very seriously. Anybody who doesn’t take them seriously is an idiot.

Incorrect. As of right now, his target return date is April 6th at Sacramento.

capologist sighting...

the I.Q. of the board just went up a few points.

Lakers are the deepest team in the West, possibly the league outside of Boston.

IMO, no team in the west should be taken lightly, especially the Lakers.

Agree.

The Lakers are confident. Every role player on their team seems to hit every open shots they get. Fisher, Vujajic, Farmar, Radmanovich, you name it. Even Turiaf. It's like with Suns now: They have their new system with an integrated Shaq in place now and everybody seems to suddenly have found their strokes, from Nash, Bell, to LB. Even Diaw has been aggressive.

Thus, it comes down in a series to break the other team's confidence with defense. I still like Suns' chance against them as I believe they would defend better than in the last regular season meeting. But Lakers are dangerous whether Bynum comes back fit or not.

How cute. Suns go on a little winning streak and their fans think they're unbeatable.

Whats funny, is you didn't even mention Trevor Ariza who is expected to return before the playoffs. And yes, that is impactful if anyone has seen Luke's defense the past two months. That guy is the Lakers weakest link right now.

Knowing you, probably Gasol's regular season vs. his playoff numbers.

I know what my eyes have seen, the stats lie here.

I'm not sure how many Memphis and Spain international games of Gasol you've seen but Gasol is a tremendous 7 footer with great skills, good passer, and a very smart player. In Memphis,he wasn't the problem, the whole team except him and Miller was.He never worked with good coaches in my opinion. Now with Kobe being the leader, with a coach like PJ,he'll have less pressure and he fits well in triangle. Not a Lakers fan, moreover, most Lakers fans here hate me for my posts to Lakers threads but believe me,Gasol can surprise you.

Wow, I'm impressed. Well said.

A lot of people blame Gasol for Memphis struggles, but that's really not fair for the reasons mentioned in your post. No one player was going to carry that Grizzlies team through the playoffs.

:)))

See,I ve told the Lakers fans don't have the best respect to me:)
For the record,Gasol single-handly stole a lot of games in Europe, and I was a witness in 3 of them:)

All we ask is for mutual respect, nothing more. The Lakers and Suns both have very good teams.

I think people still can not believe how such bad trade could happen,a trade that NBA should automatically scratch for unfairness:)

Then same people try hard to think 'well, maybe it's not really as good trade,it shouldn't be..",then they try hard and sadly they end up believing it's not as good trade as people think.

But it's the trade of the year, maybe one of the best in the NBA history.

Gasol is an all-star caliber(he'll be all star consistently starting from next year),shoots well, rebounds well,a decent blocker, can easily get 20-10 a game.

And he's not old player with a record contract

^^ yep, Suns and Lakers looks like the two best teams out West right now. We're just deeper and bigger than everyone else.
