Vegas, baby, yeah!
Just finished watching this. I thought it was a tad long but I really liked this movie. Glad I bought it. I would definitely watch this again.

Question. Was this based on a book and are their more stories?

As cheese said, there is a book that preceded the movie, but the two are completely different other than 1) the title; 2) the 10th man statement that the Israeli intelligence officer made.

The book is really a collection of survivor stories 10 years after the end of the war, pieced together to provide a bigger picture. There's the story from a Chinese doctor on how the outbreak began, Chinese-Indian human smugglers who talked about getting people over the Tibetan mountains, the great panic, the retooling for a war economy, the various battles (Yonkers, Moscow, Hope, etc.), international tensions, finding survivors behind the lines, so on and so forth.

Awesome book.

Maybe, but to gussy up a zombie flick by implying that it wasn't supposed to be scary in the first place is pretty telling as to how just dumb this was.

Anyone thinking Blair Witch was horror is pretty silly in and of itself.

The only thing to horrific about that movie was the stupid copy cat trends that followed in terms of "reality" type filming.

Zombie does not have to be scary and the Walking Dead is proof of that. It can be suspenseful or even character centric. George Romero gave us the scary zombie flick, but it has evolved. Heck, we even was a Romantic Comedy Zombie flick that was based on a much better book.

Here's the difference--Blair Witch was marketed as a horror movie (regardless of your opinion of it). World War Z was not.

Marketed as and succeeding as are two different things. But I get what you are saying.

I agree, marketed as and succeeded as ARE two different things--but the argument here is about perception. People are perceiving that WWZ should be a horror movie. Why? Because of the fact that it is about zombies. Nothing in the trailers actually portray the movie as a horror film. The Wolverine was perceived as a superhero movie. I personally didn't think it was a superhero movie.

Would the book be considered a horror novel? I always got the impression that the book was more dramatic than straight horror.

I agree but I would say "some" people are. I thought it looked more like an action movie from the trailers and that's what I went in expecting. And I wasn't disappointed.

Maybe there's a zombie romance-comedy coming out and we can finally as a society get past these horrible zombie injustifications that have plagued this unique part of our society.

Or maybe there will be a movie one day about how zombies integrate themselves into normal society, then become film snobs the likes of which have never been seen before...you know...like zombies who think Michael Bay-plosion movies worth $15 a pop to see, but think Blair Witch stank.

Isn't that movie already out?

You were blown away by this movie? I went in with low expectations myself, and was blown away by how awful it was. It had cause, though, which is why I had such low expectations. It went through not only extensive rewrites, but extensive re-shoots. Awful movie, just awful.

Couldn't agree more. The effects were pretty good but that was it. Every movie cliche ever was in this, e.g. car won't start, phone rings at exact wrong wrong time, asthmatic kid, etc., etc., etc. Lotsa dumb stuff, too, e.g. Israelis build this great, tall wall, but don't bother to guard it.... His family subplot was totally uninteresting, as well.

2 out of 5 stars, with the 2 stars for effects and intensity.

Don't know if this is sarcasm but you must have missed 'Warm Bodies' if it isn't...

Thank god for that. Was that more of a romantic zombie comedy or a comedy romance zombie type film? Because there's a difference you know.

The book was romantic zombie comedy while the movie was more comedy romance zombie. There was a lot of zombie love in the book.
