Your right AP only gets hurt every year and has fumbling issues, plus unlike AP sproles is one of the best KR/PR in the game so he not only contributes on offense but on special teams as well.

I wouldnt throw the bank at a guy like sproles but man, would that not just make us twice as dangerous. special teams would be insane.

Sproles will NEVER be an everydown back in the NFL. Never. He's a great change of pace guy and good KR but to compare him to AP is ridiculous.

gets hurts every year? He played in 16 games this year and missed 2 last year. That's 30 out 32. Not sure how that's "getting hurt every year." And do you really think that if you put Sproles on that Minnesota team they win 10 games and make the playoffs and is named the offensive player of the year? Come on now. And as far as Sproles being on PR/KR team... it's completely unrealistic to think someone's gonna make Sproles their feature back AND use him on special teams. Come on, the argument above isn't just factually wrong, but it's just flat out wrong on how players are actually used.

Do you really believe Q is going to play next season for $2.75 million?? I don't. I think he will do whatever he needs to get traded to a team that will immediately re-sign him to a much more hefty contract!
Q is toast... We need to trade him and deal with it... I think we can get a 1st and 3rd for him... Why not?
No, and I don't think the Cardinals will ask him to. From what I've read about the situation it certainly seems that the Cardinals are ready and willing to give him a raise and restructure his deal but he isn't happy about how quickly it's happening and that it's going to be less than Fitz's deal.

Obviously it's hard to imagine him coming back at this stage of the game but in the end, the Cardinals don't have to pull the trigger on a deal if it's just to make him happy. I personally think that it's playing with fire letting him go. As it stands right now, the Cardinals could be without Warner, Edge, Boldin and more in '09.

I think if he's more involved in the Super Bowl and they win, things will smooth out a little and some healing and forgiving can begin.

But I think a 1st & 3rd is a pipe dream. Look at some of the names that have been traded in recent years and an injury prone WR with insecurity issues isn't going to rate too high.

TO, Lee Evans and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are all possible free agent WR as well. Not to mention all of Baltimore's LB's, Marion Barber, Brandon Jacobs, Albert Haynesworth, Tommie Harris, Nnamdi Asomugha and Julius Peppers. And those are just the huge named guys that could be on the market. This is a horrible year for Anquan to seek a trade because no team is going to pony up any kind of equitable compensation.

We are the cardinals and in case you forgot we throw the ball 70% of the time so he would split caries with hightower prob 70-30 which means 15-20 rushes a game which he could do easily plus he can catch the ball very well. He could be a 3 down back with us bc we throw twice out of those three times and he can catch the ball very well and would be a beast on screens. We are not a normal team so an everydown back for us is not an everydown back for the ravens or the steelers or the eagles

Would make Arrington completely expendable, I wonder what he would cost.. probably too much.

Whats the diff between sproles and the beloved AP you wanted so bad? given a full season i see sproles putting up the same numbers, he is a homerun hitter everytime he touches the ball and never seems to loose yards for a small guy he is built like a bull.

you're joking, right?

sproles - 5'6 181lbs

AP - 6'2 218lbs

AP gets injured, but has already proven to be an every down stud. sproles, though terrific in his own right, cannot carry that type of load for an entire season. no way, no how. and i love me some sproles.

He's not AP, but he could be a great part of our rotation with Hightower.

we should trade him for a punter, was anyone else sick of seeing 33 yard punts and the eagles starting on the 40ish yard line EVERY TIME. wow. that guy is terrible.

I thought we were so scared about our coverage vs Desean that we intentionally punted short, maybe we should trade him for 2 good gunners lol

in case you haven't noticed, the reason we've been winning is because we STOPPED throwing 70% of the time. In fact, in the playoffs, we've run the ball more than we've thrown it. If you think Wiz is going to go back to the offense that had us mired in mediocrity and was responsible for a high number of turnovers as opposed to the plan that has gotten us to the Super Bowl well, then, I'd say your just as misguided with that opinion as you are that Sproles is somehow just as good as the best RB in the game.

So you think the Cards will attempt to negotiate? And even if they did make that effort, we know it will be less than Fitz money - now, probably much less than it would've been in the past. Q doesn't want it and he doesn't want to be here. There is no point in making the effort to negotiate...

Obviously it's hard to imagine him coming back at this stage of the game but in the end, the Cardinals don't have to pull the trigger on a deal if it's just to make him happy. The Cards would "pull the trigger" NOT to make him happy, but because it's the right thing to do. They won't give him the money he wants. He won't play next season under his current terms. It's over! You trade the man now and get a 1st and 3rd. Not to make him happy but because it makes sense!

I think if he's more involved in the Super Bowl and they win, things will smooth out a little and some healing and forgiving can begin.

All this talk about Sproles. Why not Derrick Ward. At least we have seen what he has done over the last couple of years.

Do you "throw the bank" at a rotational guy? I sure don't.

I was probably one of the few guys that wanted us to draft him out of K State. I knew he'd be a top notch special team guy and a good change of pace guy.

Actually his KO return stats are pretty much on par with Arrington
Sproles was 25.9 per return with 1 TD and Arrington 25.6 per return with 1 TD...he is better at all other aspects than JJ but if he expects feature RB money he can sign somewhere else.

but Edge NEVER did anything in public like Q has done. Yeah, we're in the driver's seat... to get better by letting Q go. They didn't give in to his demands last year, they held firm, found out they would actually be just as good if not BETTER without him and no realize they can continue to get better. They've made their point... now the point is to get better.
I'm not particularly sold on the team actually being better when Q is off the field. I know the record shows otherwise but Fitz's reign of singlehanded dominance won't last. Q and Fitz together can sustain the dominance but I don't think Fitz and Breaston can. Q/Fitz strike fear into defense and they can't double both of them. Either of them with single coverage is a huge mismatch and I don't think the same could be said of Breaston.
I mean, you said the Bengals did it right... but look at how awful that team is and how they can't get any better now because of the situation.
C'mon, they're not in bad shape because of the Chad Johnson situation. That's one of the few things they've actually handled well. Palmer getting injured subtracted at least 5 wins off their schedule alone. I'm not saying they are the model franchise in all areas but I think their approach to Chad is shared by many teams at this point.
or even worse, holding out and then him coming back at the end of training camp only to be out of shape and pull a hammy or do whatever injury's coming next which sacrifices a spot on the team which could be used to make us better just makes no sense to me.
While I don't agree with what he's done, he still shouldn't be accused of dogging it on the field or in his preperation. He still gives 100% on the field and I'm not ready to predict otherwise. He wants a better contract but he still has pride on the field.

No I don't throw the bank at him, but there are players who will go for a lesser deal to be on a team that is going places. Historically we have had to overpay for our free agents, but I think this time around that won't be the situation and he may sign for a reasonable deal. If not, we move on, if so.. he'd be a good addition

when LT was hurt the chargers used sproles as the main back and as their kick returner and your right the injury thing was more in college it just seems like hes always dinged up and AP was used sometimes this past year as a KR as well as Denagelo Williams was used as a KR in the past as well and we are talkin about 15 carries a game a little less than AP and 4 KR's a game, i shouldnt have said thrown the bank at him but hes def worth a nice contract and would greatly improve this team

I think so. Just because Haley is a hot-head doesn't mean that Graves and Whis are.
There is no point in making the effort to negotiate...
Wow. I'd at least "try". Even if it's a longshot.
You trade the man now and get a 1st and 3rd.
No team is going to offer that.

There's a big difference between KC cutting salaries and rebuilding and getting something for one of the top DE's in the league and the Q situation. I think most teams value a top DE much more highly than a WR.

And if anything, the Roy Williams deal will scare every other team away from offering a lot for a WR. If anything, the Cowboys got worse in '08 and they've mortgaged a good chunk of their future for a non-entity on their offense.

Has anyone considered, especially at this stage of his career, that Q probably isn't the #1 that he used to be? I mean, is he really going to carry a team's offense without Fitz drawing coverage away from him?

why not? Fitz literally can't be stopped, the same way Jerry Rice and Randy Moss can't be stopped. You don't need another Pro-Bowl WR next to him for him to continue to be great, but what this team DOES need in order to continue to be good in the future is to be able to maintain the balance they've shown in the playoffs and I think that we can help make that balance possible by trading Q and getting draft picks in return.

Q and Fitz together can sustain the dominance but I don't think Fitz and Breaston can.

dominance is a funny term considering in all their years together, the best record this team has had is 9-7 (and that's by a mile) and the best this team has played has been without Boldin.

Q/Fitz strike fear into defense and they can't double both of them. Either of them with single coverage is a huge mismatch and I don't think the same could be said of Breaston.

as much "fear as we strike" into people, a) there's not much fear when the guy is constantly injured... and there will be even less fear if he either holds out or just flat out quits like Johnson did last season.

I didn't say they were necessarily in bad shape solely because of the Johnson situation, but they're in worse shape now because of how they handled it... and this situation is different. We didn't cave to Q's demands... we held on to him, saw him get injured again and now we know that he, the aging WR who now has a raging ego problem doesn't DESERVE a contract extension... at least not at the money he wants. So if we're not going to pay him and he's not going play for what he's making now, it's not caving in to anything, like if the Bengals had traded Johnson last season.

While I don't agree with what he's done, he still shouldn't be accused of dogging it on the field or in his preperation. He still gives 100% on the field and I'm not ready to predict otherwise. He wants a better contract but he still has pride on the field.

There were 3 games this season (Jets, Eagles and Vikings) where it looked like to me that Boldin was just completely out to lunch and I had never seen that before. I don't think that's a coincidence this year. And while you may not be ready to predict otherwise, I would rather not take the chance on a) seeing more of those 3 type of games getting bigger the angrier and more distant he gets from the organization and b) seeing his perpetually injured ass being injured again next season.

Unfortunately I think moklerman is right about the Roy Williams trade. I worry teams will shy away from trading for Boldin after that. Also, now that he is earning the discontent label, he will be compared to Chad and may have his value drop from that as well. Ugh.

They only reason we have been running so much is because of the fourth quarter and protecting a lead, in the last game what did edge have 17 carries? and hightower had like 11, so change edge with sproles you have a younger more explosive back who is hard to take down.

have you ever considered this is EXACTLY the reason the team needs to trade him rather than giving him a fat contract extension? Sell high, while he's still on a decent contract and let someone else worry about his injuries/attitude. It's also why I don't think we need to get a 1st and a 3rd. Get a 2nd and 3rd and I'm all good. It's not about rewarding him, but getting the team better.

we opened up every single game in the playoffs running the ball 1616 and it's what got us the lead IMMEDIATELY in every single game. It's what allowed Warner to do the play-action pass to Fitz. It's what's given Warner time to pick defenses apart, it's what's taken time off the clock.

Sorry, but I think that's Kool-Aid talking. Moss wasn't dominant w/o Carter in Minny and I think Welker has pretty much allowed his resurgence to happen. He's good regardless of the #2 but he's only dominant with good #2's. I think the same will be true for Larry and I don't think Breaston will be the answer. Maybe Doucet will be good enough for the trio to continue to function but it is my impression that Q won't be able to sustain his act.

Like I said, I think if he get's a little glory in the Super Bowl his attitude will soften. Edge is all smiles now that he's back in the mix and he isn't getting nearly the amount of carries that he always claims to want. I think Q can be satiated and should remain a Cardinal. Perhaps the bridges have been burned but I'd rather stay optimistic at this point.
