Recognizing that we might be in the market for a FA WR this year, I've looked at the options and concluded:
We won't go after Terrell Owens. Is Kevin Dyson 100%? Steve Smith re ups with the Panthers. Marcus Robinson and Antonio Freeman are on the downhill curve of their respective careers. We don't want Tai Streets. That leaves, for all intents, the following: Dennis Northcutt, Darrell Jackson and Dez White. Have I missed someone?
Looking at these three therefore, my guess is that Northcutt is the best bet. With the exception of his sophmore year (2001 in which he had clavical injuries), his production has been pretty steady:
2000: Drafted 2nd round, #32 overall and finished with 39 cathches and 422 yds.
2001: Finished with 18 catches and 211 yards
2002: Finished with 38 catches and 601 yds.
2003: Finished with 62 catches and 729 yds.
While he's of average size (5'11" and 175 lbs.) he's also pretty darn good as a PR. Ex: U of AZ. Has a good attitude.
Is he worth a FA pick? Does he complement Boldin and Johnson from a skill set perspective?
