Recognizing that we might be in the market for a FA WR this year, I've looked at the options and concluded:

We won't go after Terrell Owens. Is Kevin Dyson 100%? Steve Smith re ups with the Panthers. Marcus Robinson and Antonio Freeman are on the downhill curve of their respective careers. We don't want Tai Streets. That leaves, for all intents, the following: Dennis Northcutt, Darrell Jackson and Dez White. Have I missed someone?

Looking at these three therefore, my guess is that Northcutt is the best bet. With the exception of his sophmore year (2001 in which he had clavical injuries), his production has been pretty steady:
2000: Drafted 2nd round, #32 overall and finished with 39 cathches and 422 yds.
2001: Finished with 18 catches and 211 yards
2002: Finished with 38 catches and 601 yds.
2003: Finished with 62 catches and 729 yds.

While he's of average size (5'11" and 175 lbs.) he's also pretty darn good as a PR. Ex: U of AZ. Has a good attitude.

Is he worth a FA pick? Does he complement Boldin and Johnson from a skill set perspective?

I would love to have Northcutt, he plays fast and is the type of rec we need. Like you pointed out, he is very consistant. I would rather have Jackson, as he could step into the #2 slot easily and put Bryant at the #3. I like that setup much better, because BJ could develop without so much pressure on him.

Jackson is going to cost much more then Northcutt, so in the end I think Northcutt would make more sense, as we need to get a top CB free agent.

what about...

I haven't heard anything from Orande' Gasden from the Dolphins. Did he get re-signed or go somewhere else already, cause I know he was free game this year (alegedly). He wouldn't be bad. I think Northcutt would be an excellent grab as well.

I'm all for signing Northcut,Dyson or Jackson, I think its a priority to add a speedy vet to play along side Boldin. It would be great to land Northcut
