On the surface it seems far fetched that the Cards would consider a WR in round 1. However, looking deeper, it's not all that crazy.

On their podcast, Somers thinks it's 60-40 that Fitz retires after this year and, with Floyd being a FA next offseason, WR becomes a big question mark.

If Fitz would retire, signing Floyd becomes a top priority. The Cards couldn't, and shouldn't, go into a season with John Brown as their #1.

If a guy like Laquan Treadwell fell to them, it would be hard to pass. That's also why I wouldn't be surprised to see the Card draft a WR early and why I mocked Braxton Miller to them. Will Fuller, Michael Thomas, and Josh Doctson are other guys I think they'll look at drafting as I think they'll concentrate on bigger WR's this year.

A guy to keep an eye on is Keyarris Garrett from Tulsa. He's 6'3 220 and ran a 4.4 at his pro day(4.54 combine) and is raw but could blossom with a year under Fitz's tutelage.

Who knows what the Cards '120' looks like, but I doubt that a WR is near #29, with a couple in the top 20, and then a drop to the thirties. Just don't see it happening.

Speaking of WRs did Megatron ever make a decision or is Detroit still hanging?

I can't imagine they would take one in the first, so they probably will! Treadwell or Doctson would be my two favorite. Charone Peake in middle rounds is a guy that has number one potential. Always expect the unexpected. I like it Cbus!

I just think there will be better players available at #29 than a WR. BA was very negative on the WRs at the Combine, said there was a real lack of speed.
Compared to other years this is very true.

Agree completely it's a interesting argument but why draft a WR in what may be the worst WR class in years.

There are always recievers available every year who can come in and contribute.

But if they decide they won't resign Floyd already, then it could go that direction.

But they aren't deep in the secondary, OL, and DL is getting old and needs another impact rusher.

WR is still a deep position.

I think Fitz would only retire if the Cards win it all. It seems more likely to me that the Cards don't trust Floyd enough to give him the dollars it would take to sign him. Consistency is the one key trait in a long term contract. I think the only way they take a WR is if someone falls and they can get a mid-round 2 for Floyd and a 4.

I have no idea where he goes -- but I think Braxton Miller is going to be a star at WR

If the Cards took him at 29, it would feel a bit indulgent -- but over the longer term I think we would look back and wouldn't regret it at all. At their 3rd round pick, Braxton would be a steal.

I don't think they can possibly go WR in the 1st. Not without a 2nd round pick.

Ryan Kelly is the only offensive player that the Cards could possibly take in the 1st. Otherwise, All D all day.
