He competes for the 4/5 WR with Brown, Taylor & Hawkins. Timing is good because he'll get playing time this Saturday & in game four. Wide receiver is probably the one position where NFL experience is of the most benefit. Thomas has the experience, now he has to work his tail off in the next two weeks to earn a roster spot. If that doesn't bring out the best in him, nothing will.

Besides Ian Rapoport reported that at least two other teams wanted him.

Well teams don't let good players go unless they're making too much money. So what was he making in 2013? Dang he's already removed from everything I look at. But here's a cached version - http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...-lions/mike-thomas/+&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

So $1.45 mil in 2013. Set to make $3.45 mil in 2014. Doesn't sound like a camp body. It's only one comment, but:

"Mike Thomas is a supreme waste of talent. He’s extremely gifted but shows absolutely no motivation to better himself on the field."

He can also return kicks which could mean the end of Fonzo.

I think you might have nailed it because BA did say that the last guys on the depth chart for some positions may not be the best players at that position - but the best special teams players. Then we can work at getting them better for that position. Something like that. Sounds like a great idea to me. For a #6 receiver who may not ever get real time at receiver anyway, why not get a guy who's great on special teams first and foremost? And if you heard BA's comments, he was really happy with the special teams Saturday. So it might be working.

That makes him a low-risk addition with upside for the Cardinals IMO. And it puts the 'BA as player motivator' mantra to the test.

If he can motivate Mike Thomas to work hard, maximize his talent and EARN the 4th receiver job, he gets a solid proven NFL veteran slot receiver. If not, the Cardinals move on to Door #2.

I like talk about a 4th, 5th or 6th WR.

Remember the days when we were talking about Bryan Gilmore being a #1 or #2?

Mike Thomas, if he's as good as BA thinks he is, makes him a lock for the #4 WR, and makes #5, and last, a battle between Brown and Taylor. Charles Hawkins and the loser for #4 would seem to have a good shot for the PS. Though since BA evidently doesn't have much love for our WR's, the PS WR's will probably come from the WW. JMO.

Think "role player."

After Fitz, Floyd and Roberts, we:

4. Have our speedy & experienced slot smurf in Thomas.

5. Will probably want to keep a big guy - (Brown (6-2), Edwards (6-3) or Buckner (6-4). My guess is Brown.

6. If we only keep 5, average sized guys like Taylor (6-0), Dillard (5-11) would be merged with the Big Guys. Otherwise, these two would probably duke it out for the 6th spot. My guess is Taylor.

Odd man out would figure to be Hawkins (who at 5-8 would appear to be smurf-insurance for Thomas in camp before heading for the PS).

Cut by the Lions. Plays a lot of slot. Guess BA wasn't kidding about bringing guys in to compete...

Could it be that the Cards are much better this year than any of us think???? I feel good about this year but I have done that before. I am not going to be happy with an 8/8 because I really feel we are going to be better than that. You can attribute this post to my age if you like.

Trivia: I am a poster on the Cubs web page. What I see is a bunch of teens who do not know up from down and are rude to say the least. They seem to enjoy calling people all sorts of names forgetting this is just a game. The even younger posters follow suit and become just like the other rude posters only worse. Sites can be over taken by rudeness which is sad.
