The very definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Had they acceded to ALL of our demands, it would have cost them approx 47 million per year. Now they’re apparently about to lose TEN TIMES that amount.

Discovery shareholders can’t be happy about this

Is there a chance that they're using the strikes as a scapegoat for their incompetence in other areas? They've had a number of huge flops this year (DC anyone?) and I'm wondering if they're trying to shift those numbers to the strike bucket so then can then blame the writers and actors for the poor numbers.

I think more than the movies bombing it's been the crapshow of everyone launching their own streaming platforms that turn into money pits. And as more streaming platforms launch the more diluted the content which is just creating a death spiral.

This is the wrong argument to make. Paul is a multi-millionaire. His argument should be if someone who had as big of a role on Breaking Bad isn’t even making residual money on the show, think about what that means for the co-stars, the day players, etc that depend on that money to get them through hard times.

Yes… he does deserve streaming residuals, but this is a fight for the middle class in Hollywood not the upper crust.

I interpreted it to mean what you're saying, but I can see where some might miss that. Better for him to clearly state that it's a big problem with streaming, especially for the guys further down the totem pole struggling to get by.

Yeah… I’ve just had a couple conversations with people outside the industry who miss that point.

It’s the double edged sword of having the actors join the strike. A lot more publicity but also a little more room for error on messaging. If the argument looks like millionaires versus billionaires, it turns more people off than needed.

Yeah, the messaging has to be that it's for the average writer/actor and not for the stars. You don't want a Lars gold-plated shark tank type of situation.

I heard on NPR, now the cable companies may come after the streamers in law suits because they have to pay all kinds of BS fees to them to carry their channels. This whole entertainment industry will look different possibly in the near future. I know Cable is dying, but everything seems to be coming to a head at once.

Shots fired.

Operation Divide And Conquer has officially begun.

Ish is only gonna get nastier from here...
Cheese, is ending the strike "all or nothing" or is is possible to cut individual deals? Like if Apple comes to the WGA and says "we'll agree to everything you're asking for." Can a deal be signed with just them?

Apple ain’t gonna do that. Neither will Amazon or Netflix. They’re just completely different business models than the legacy studios.

WB/Universal/Paramount and Sony might.

And that can absolutely happen. Will it happen? No freaking clue. But the AMPTP is not bonded together by contract or anything.

We divided and conquered the agencies back in 2019, breaking them one by one over packing fee BS. It might be the best way to do this also.
