Boy - we didn;t need Ted Washington either right folks? Good teams and team that want to win look to upgrade their squad at any opportunity - Graves is losing my faith right now. He was probably HOPING he would be one of those last cuts. Stop FREAKING HOPING AND DO SOMETHING - BE PROACTIVE. I'm pissed.

Washington was traded from the Bears to New England today for a fourth round pick.

Funny how an overweight, injury-prone, has-been impresses the dark side. It's just more of "everybody else's rejects are all-pros" nonsense.

Hmmm, cheese, who were our last two fourth round draft picks? Do you know? I don't but I sure wouldn't give one up for an obese muscle pull with lockerroom baggage.

What?
You know cheese at some point we actually have to produce and retain an emerging NFL star if we are going to get anywhere. Are those guys on the roster today? We need to play them to find out. Every other teams baggage is not going to do us any good. They are cut for a reason. This isn't to say some good pick ups won't become available but to go into dispair over every little move in the NFL is not good.

Right Skkorp -I forgot how UNSUCCESSFUL the Pats were a couple years ago with pick-ups like these and how bad they were last year as well. But of course - he wasn't a body we could have used. And now he has locker room baggage - Did I say he was an all-pro? No - Is he better than anything else we have - if healthy - I think yes. The guy was the Anchor on a great defense two years ago.

As far as our fourth rounders - does it matter - we would prbably give it up to move back in next years draft. Honestly if he was good enough for Bellichick and the Pats, whose personell dept. has been shown to be vastly superior to ours, than he he's good enough for me. Get over the darkside stuff already Skkorp - this is guy we could have used and I bet were waiting for the cuts to get him and as sual our lack of proactivity bit us in the ass.

The guy was traded for a 4th round pick. On other teams that is a pick a vlaue - now maybe it's not for our Cards - but for other teams it is. And we've seen Bell and Davis play - do you honestly believe they are going to emerge out of nowhere and off the ground they are pounded into every week. I mean is graves then just lying to us when he makes statements about being players after June 1st and getting Veteran D-lineman. This is ridiculous - this team needs to start winning ballgames and our players, the young ones, need to watch how good players play the game to learn - isn't that the damn argument with Bringing Emmitt smith sorry ass in here.

Injury prone? Before last year he went 8 years only missing one start. I wouldn't call that injury prone.

Overweight, I suppose but alot of DTs are so....

Oh and that "has-been" was only the anchor of one of the top defenses that led the bears to a 13-3 season two years ago. Give Skkorp a break - he's so far drunk on the kool-aid -he doesn't remember what real talent even looks like.

And Skkorp - when he did bceome a cancer - was it when he switched teams and didn't land on ours?

Hey Cheese, I'm right there with ya man. I hate the fact that we always seem to be reacting instaed of being proactive.

However...

If Washington had been cut I'd have been the first guy out there hollerin to sign him, but there's no way he is worth a 4th round pick. I would say he's got 8 full games left in him...maybe. Washington is not the kind of player you throw away picks on, he's a one season body, and thats it.

The funny thing is that the Pats traded TWO '03 picks to get that 4th rounder. In essense, they just wasted THREE picks on a guy who won't even be around past this season.

It's too bad he didn't get a chance to make a play for him, but at least we didn't get taken for suckers. :-|

Bell has had a solid Preseason so far and is pushing for a starting spot.

Emmitt Smith was brought in here because he is a all pro who fans and Players alike respect. He provides leadership and even though he is at the end of his career. He is currently healthy going into the start of the season.

Washington is Old and with all the weight that he carries I'm surprised he has lasted this long. The last couple of years he has been plagued by injuries. I think he is done. The Pats roled the Dice. The best that they can expect is a large man in the middle. He is not going to get any penitration or Sacks. Assuming of course he is healthy enough to stay on the field. I think the Bears made out on this deal. My guess is they would have cut him if they couldn't trade him.

That could be - but the Pats the last couple of years have seemed to right more often than wrong - and I thought they were gonna be horrible two years ago and still thought they were a fluke last year. It's all just so frustrating - I really think we are going to be horrible and am so desperate for them to make any move that will make the season watchable.

Bears | Washington In Great Shape - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 29 Jul 2003 07:37:59 -0700

Updating previous reports, Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun Times, reports Chicago Bears DT Ted Washington (leg) looks to be in the best shape of his tenure with the Bears and says he hasn't felt this good since the start of his six-year stay in Buffalo

For what it is worth.....

I thought that the Bears would cut him. They are probably stoked that they got what they did for him.

I agree if he was cut then at least bring him in for an interview, see if he has the right attitude and passes the physical. If he does then let him fight for a spot on the team. No way would I waste a 4th on him.

True, it never hurts to take a few risks, but if were gonna start moving picks, I'd much rather they seek out some young talent that still has a few years of upside.

Agreed. IMO Washington isn't worth a fourth round pick to a team like the Cardinals. He's 35 years old and coming off a season where he played in only two games because of injury. The Patriots must think they can win it all this year and are willing to pay a high price to get back to the Super Bowl.

If Washington was the last piece to a Super Bowl puzzle, that would be one thing. He will most likely be out of the league in a year or two. Giving up a 4th rounder would be giving up too much.

Where are they? I would agree if they were out there. What no one seems to understand is how precious d-line help in this league is. Pro-bowlers dont jsut start falling off trees.

Belicheck has obviously realized this so he takes chances on players to contribute who may not be superstars!

But of course, the Cards know better than Belicheck and the Pats!

Had the Cardinals made moves like this the last couple of years, maybe they would only be 1 or 2 guys away from a Superbowl....ever thought of that?

I doub't it.

More than likely we'd be in the same position we are now, but short a bunch of draft picks to boot.

If we do the right thing this year and keep all of our starters, THEN we will be in a position to explore more of these types of options.

Is he truly better than what we have now? Maybe he becomes a 3rd stringer in our scheme right now. Is that what we want? We need people to step up and play, namely those we have chosen over the last couple of years. That's the bottom line. We don't need re-treads, we need stars to emerge. Bitch about Emmitt and Jackson now but the attitude is changing quickly! That will only help us. We need to establish that attitude.

You may very well be right, but I have been hearing this arguement since Buddy Ryan left.

It is about time to produce some results!

Have you lost your mind?? 3rd stringer?

He would start on 1st and 2nd down at least and clog the middle. McKinnon /Darling/Thompson/Fischer would have career years behind him!

If Washington is such a great player then why did the Bears trade him for a fourth round pick? If we are wrong in not getting him then the Bears are really wrong for trading him. In fact, 31 teams do not have the services of Ted Washington now. The Broncos are in desperate need of a DT. Why did'nt they pick up Washington? The Chiefs had the worst defense in '02. Where were they? The Bengals need d-line help. So do the Packers. Washington is not an every down player. He would help in a rotation and clog up the middle, but he does not have long term potential. Everyone keeps forgetting we are in a development stage. If we bring in older, short term vets our young guys will not get playing time. It seems the most popular players to some Cards fans are the ones not on the team. We had an 8 sack pre-season game without Washington. By the way, we need a DEFENSIVE END. That is the position KVB played. Getting another tackle would take up a roster spot and leave us thin at end.
