Yes, it says 54 because these are the 54 players I think we would all probably whittle it down to and I can't decide which way they will go to get to 53.
QB (2) - Murray, McCoy
RB (4) - Edmonds, Connor, Benjamin, Ward
WR (7) - Hopkins, Green, Kirk, Moore, Isabella, Johnson, Dortch
TE (3) - Williams, Daniels, Travis (Strong possibility Travis is waived if they like someone who is cut)
OL (8) - Hump, Pugh, Hudson, Murray, Beechum, Jones, Garcia, Miles
DL (6) - Watt, Allen, Fotu, Lawrence, Philips, Peters
OLB (5) - Golden, Jones, Gardeck, Dimukeje, Kennard
ILB (5) - Collins, Simmons, Hicks, Vallejo, Turner
Safety (5) - Baker, J.Thompson, D.Thompson, Banjo, Washington
CBs (6) - Murphy, Alford, Butler, Wilson, Dennard, Gowan
ST (3) - Prater, Lee, Brewer
I only kept 8 O line because they can keep Sean Harlow on the PS and it would take multiple injuries for him to be needed as the 2nd string guys can cover multiple positions. No need to use a roster spot. Same for Streveler, nobody is claiming him unless there is a backup QB convention that gets hit by Al Qaeda so he's safe on the PS.
The options I see to get to 53 are,
Dortch - 7 WR's is high but they kept 7 before when one of them for a specialist and Dortch has looked good. Also both Moore and Kirk have a history of injuries so he might come in handy in the slot at some point.
Dimukeje - Edge guys with upside with coveted so I don't think they waive him for the PS and they normally keep 5 OLD on the 53. So I think he stays, but he's in the conversation.
Washington - He's a good ST guy and played well well given snaps on D but it's a toss up between a 5th safety or 6th CB.
Gowan - Only takes once team that liked him in the draft to claim him. Very raw but he has potential and looks hungry.
Dennard - The kind of cheap vet with lots of starting experience that rosters like but has missed time in camp with injury and hasn't started a PS game.
My feeling is that it will be between Washington, Gowan and Dennard. Or they may keep an extra O line and it could be 2 of them but that wouldn't be how I would do it.
