The main thing left to address in free agency, IMO, is an OG. And we are not taking an G at #16.

I'd like to get 2 good Guards in the draft, another edge rusher & a #2 WR with speed.

Was going to say I now won't be shocked if we take a WR in round 1. Not saying we should but WR is a definite weakness and with the signings if the BPA is a WR, we might take him.

I think the injuries got lost in the ups and downs of the midseason when we were pushing for the playoffs but with jones, Nichols and bj (hopefully) healthy plus sweat and Tomlinson I’m hopeful.

I am happy with this as well, but I still think we need a DT at 16. This guy isn't a big needle mover in the sack department. We still need that passing down disrupter. But yes, a good signing.

I think it's better from a rush defense standpoint. We still need interior pass rush and I'm not sure we'll get enough of it from this group. Walter Nolen, we will draft you!!!

No. Still no wrecker in pass rush. Still not enough pass rush ability overall. This guy looks like a nice add, but not a wrecker in the passing game.

If we don't, it was a conscious decision to build contracts just to eat up cap space. We had a ton of cap space to start with. We can still spend, for sure.

Not my first options, but like it.

Former 2nd rounder. Not a world-beater. Just solid starter. Better run defender than pass-rusher. Overall solid 2nd DT in rotation.

Pff has him as ranked #32 of interior overall and better than several of the players already gone, but all the money is being thrown at DTs with pass-rushing skills, which is probably why his market wasn't as hot.

I like this so much much more than throwing 20M at Jonathan Allen, where you are paying for past performance and potential of him returning to that level.

What I love about this is what multiple here point out - draft flexibility. Where we are drafting in both 1st and 2nd should be perfect for a solid pool of Edge, OL and DT. Draft BPA at both. Tomlinson is solid enough to ensure we are not forced to draft a DT if Edge and OL are BPA at those spots.

He has good pass rush for a big man. My point was that e.g. Hargraves and Allan had solid pass rush grades and horrible run stop grades. That doesn’t make Tomlinson’s pass rush grades bad.

That's why I prefer this move. Hargraves and Allen have declining pass rush grades and offer little in the run. Tomlinson is a really good all rounder. Really like the signing and the money. Smart move.

fwiw: the Cards not only led the NFL in defensive line starter games lost to injury in 2024 -- they had the most in the last several years (courtesy of Warren Sharp at SharpFootball)

Right where I'm at. At Edge, I think we've gotten a significant upgrade in pass rush. At DT, eh??? Not sold yet. At least the run D should be a lot better.

I was getting tired of counseling patience. Ossenfort gets his needed anchor tackle at an affordable number. The key to building a sustained competitive team is to build a solid foundation without wasting cash that restricts future flexibility. Now the Cards enter the draft with optimum opportunity. They can afford to take a player who may need a year or so to develop. I’d still take Grant, but I understand the concern about getting a long term RT. I’m still not sure much can be accomplished with this WR pool. Of course there are a half dozen interesting Edge prospects. This now becomes a great draft to build depth, which is what the top teams often do with the draft. This is like playing chess where great players think several move ahead. Ossenfort can look a couple of years ahead and anticipate where depth should be built. There’s also still enough money to extend key players. I’m not going to waste time chastising Ossenfort detractors. A GM can only do so much. Tomlinson could get hurt in the first game. Thus the need for depth. At least now hopefully everyone can relax a little. Good luck at predicting the Cards’ first pick!
