I remember we went to the free throw line a record 64 times against Seattle in game 7 of the Western Finals back in 93. I know the NBA wanted Jordan v Barkley.

This sort of thing ain't new to this league.

I remember Bavetta calling foul on Bibby when Horry's flagrant elbow foul almost broke Bibby's nose.

That was Kobe's elbow. It was a bad call, but I laughed because I hated mike bibby and his "big nuts dance."

Really? 64 times? Man, that's a lot of freaking free throws. That must have been a brutal game to watch. Had to take forever...

FBI investigating NBA ref Bavetta
Tim Donaghy isn't the only bad boy in the world of referees, it appears. The FBI has apparently been asking around about Dick Bavetta, who has officiated over more NBA games than anyone else in history. A former NBA ref, Hue Hollins, said federal agents tracked him down last year to talk about how Bavetta handled games. By the way, Bavetta was the ref of the now infamous Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, which Donaghy claims was mishandled on purpose. (New York Times)

Wasn't there also a playoff game in the 90's between the Knicks and the Heat that led to Tim Hardaway's infamous, "Knick Bavetta" quote?

I have to agree with that Lakers homer Bill something on Around the Horn, Tim might have just picked the most controversial game in recent memory.

Truth of the matter is, NO ONE KNOWS. It was obviously a one sided officiated game, but to sit here and type up how you think its a conspiracy without proof just boggles my mind.

It was a questionable game, nothing more.

And to those saying Tim has nothing to lose so he is telling the truth, he wants to bring down the NBA with him...that is evident.

Questionable game. Questionable official. You only need one more thing for it to be a conspiracy.

I also heard on the radio there have been whispers about Ed F. Rush (not Ed T. Rush) I guess he was involved in another questionable playoff series involving Utah (I didn't catch the other team's name)

Edit: They also said his record against the Over/Under Vegas odds (leaning towards the over) led the league from 2000 - 2004 which are the years that are being focused on. (which I'm sure the NBA could care less about and is just radio analyst garbage, but worth mentioning)

WOW. And I always liked Bavetta.

Bavetta was the ref who watched the lakers foul nash while he tried to call a timeout 2 years ago. Walton "stole" the ball from nash while his right foot was almost 2' out of bounds right in little dickie's face. As I recall, the "steal" resulted in Kobes game tying shot in the waning seconds of the game which the lakers won in overtime to put the lakers up 3-1. the suns came back to win the series, but youtube had little dickie right on top of the play, ignoring the hacking, the timeout call, and Waltons foot out of bounds. He couldnt have had a better vantage point. I could see him missing the timeout call, or even the hacks as they do in the NBA so often, but the foot well out of bounds was disturbing. Apparently Bavetta doesnt see out of bounds lines well as I also recall was the ref on top of the play when Lebron won a playoff game(against the wiz?) with a last second shot with one foot out of bounds.

Bavetta has not been an arrogant public persona, but he has been there when it mattered and F'ED up big time in the crunch several times. I also remember a spurs suns playoff game with elston on defense intentionally kicking a passed ball right in his face -with no call- the shot clock expired as he swallowed his whistle. I always thought it was because he was blind, as he was old as dirt and just needed to retire. But knowing that he was the lead ref of the lakers/kings game 6 fiasco in 2002, well thats a smoking gun thats hard to ignore.

On a side note, you can throw out the possibility of the NBA coming to Vegas anytime soon.

Vegas is probably the safest place to have a team because all bets are off if there is even a HINT of tainted betting or gameplay. Vegas thrives on bets, and if one is fixed their bottom line is affected.

The closer you are to danger, the farther you are from harm.

Like after jack in the box killed those people with e.coli... guess where you WOULDNT get e.coli a week after those deaths?

Wasnt rush the one who made most of the bogus calls on the suns/spurs playoff game 3(which donaghy was also in on) in 2007? I believe that Donaghy is a skunk, but not the only one. I remember that ASFN posters who rewatched that game after Donaghy was caught swore that it was Rush that made the bogus calls.

If the US legal system disqualified the testimonly of all criminals, there would always only be one arrest, and there would be no MOB informants to take down the MOB bosses.

No kidding.

Remember when the All Star game was there a couple of years ago? I went to Vegas a week or two after that and people were saying it had been a huge mess. Crime skyrocketed during that weekend and the people do not want the NBA to come back (at least not for an All Star Game).

Yes. This is how I remember it.

Not that Kings fans needed more fuel for their conspiracy fire, but there is a rather odd development to the Game 6 controversy. Several of my colleagues say they've previously viewed video clips on YouTube of each game from the infamous 2002 Western Conference playoff series between the Kings and Lakers.

But as of today, clips of Game 6 are missing. All the other games are there. You can watch highlights of Kobe Bryant scoring 30 points in Game 1 and the clips from the deciding overtime in Game 7 remain. Another NBA blogger also picked up on the missing clips.

Where did Game 6 go? YouTube won't say. Their official response to my question was as dry as they come.

"We do not comment on individual videos or video sets," a spokesperson said.
And so the conspiracy continues.

Just in case anyone forgot, here's Bibby's "foul" on Kobe:

Lemme guess, Donald, he deserved it since he was in the Laker arena?

Lemme guess, he deserved it because he is Mike Bibby?

And btw, I don't think I ever said the dudes in the other thread "deserved it." It's more of a case that they got they trouble they went in search of. Also said I don't condone it. Why do you feel the need to put words in my mouth about it?

I stand corrected, searching for it, not deserved it. The semantics of apathy are foreign to me, sorry.

You really think they wore Celtic jerseys so they could get beaten? Am I putting words in your mouth or is that what you mean by "the trouble they were in search of." The "trouble" would be getting beaten, and you're saying that's what they were "in search of"? A bit masochistic even for a celtic fan, dont you agree?

I still think it's funny. Terrible call, but Bibby is a bitch.

I can't believe you say that,I've seen the 2002 series and Bibby is not a dirty guy like Bowen,Horry or flopper like Ginobili,Parker.Am I missing something?

Bibby is fouled hard and he's bitch just because Kobe fouled?Your messages makes more sense when you are objective Donald.
