Hudson scares me when he puts his hand so high on the bat when he tries to bunt. Good way to get a finger broken.

I don't know but I will tell you this. I have been to 3 Giants games in the last 2 weeks (2 were DBack games) and they have over 40K every night. I only saw 1, 1 other DBacks shirt both games. I know they just won the WS but I have been coming here on business and family trips for 30 years, and they have always supported their team. It seems most people are from here. They do not have the huge transplant population we do. That is a fact and has a lot to do with why our attendance is low. Ever been to a Cubs game in AZ? Nuf sed. I have lived in Phoenix for almost 60 years and it is what it is. A city of transplant who support the team where they came from. Over time we may overcome this, but for now it is the reason we can't get more butts in the seats. We have$1.50 hot dogs and $4 beers. In SF they are $4.75 and $9.25 and their is still a line. Most of my friends and neighbors support the out of town teams. I hate it but it is a fact of life in the Valley of the Sun.

I hated it too, until I moved to L.A. Then I became a hypocrite and finally understood why some people take their team allegiances with them.

I take sports to heart, which is why I've grown unconditional support for the teams I grew up watching and rooting for. I will always be a D-Back, Suns, Cards and Wildcat fan. I could never imagine rooting for the Lakers, Dodgers or any team in L.A. for that matter. People always say I will come around but that's not the case. One of my friends is 65 years old born in Wisconsin. Hasn't been there since he was eight and still roots for the Packers.

It is what it is.

There is another scenario. As a young kid, my first love was the Dodgers, when I lived in NJ. Then they moved to L.A. Being a National League fan and having no team to root for, I listed to Vinnie's feed back East.

When the Mets were born, I became a red-hot fan.

Thirty-three years ago, when I moved to Phoenix, I went to Phoenix Giants/Firebirds games, but could never root for the Giants. So, once again, I listened to Vinnie's feeds of Dodgers games.

Then the D'backs were born and I became a red-hot fan.

But you never forget your first love. Mine was the Dodgers when I was 11.

Ironically, when I was 18, I met my real first love, but I went away to school and we drifted apart. And my life went on.

But two years ago we hooked up on Facebook (we're 2400 miles apart) and she and I email as friends just about every night. Just as I check the Dodgers box score every day.

Yup, you never forget your first love(s). :)

You're lucky. I met mine at the age of 16 and we drifted apart during college. I've been searching for her for years now, and it appears she's the only female of my generation without some sort of Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter.

My first love was tacos but it's been a very one-sided relationship. I haven't been completely loyal though as I do eat around occasionally.

Try Classmates.com. I've connected with classmates from my 4th through 9th grades. At the end of the month, I'll be flying to the Jersey shore for my second (and their thirteenth) informal class reunion. What a special weekend it was.

Ironically, my first love I referred to in this thread was from the same town, but we didn't meet until our families had moved to other towns.

I would love to visit her on this trip, but since her husband's stroke changed his personality, she said he would make her life miserable if we got together and I wouldn't do that to her.

Two horrible strike calls by the ump to end the game. Those werent even close. Sucks because we had been sucking all night and finally get some base runners.

SF is up 5-3 in the 8th

Not the best time for the Arizona bats to go ice cold.

Likely, the lead goes down to 5 tonight. Great....

Yep another good outing by a starter wasted on a last place team. Please dont do this Dbacks...

We need to get our heads out of our butts and quick. It was one thing to struggle to get runs and stack up losses against the two best teams in the NL who all have amazing pitching. It's a little different doing it against the worst teams in our division while the Giants are on fire. We have hit better pitchers than this all season.

The Giants are going to keep winning, they believe, this is exactly what they did last year while the Rockies and Padres choked the division away.

We need to quit watching the scoreboard, quit making freaking baserunning errors and QUIT arguing with the ump everytime we strike out.

It's gut check time Dbacks, YOU GUYS ARE BETTER THAN THIS! I hope they all sleep terribly tonight and come out focused and ready to get back on track tomorrow. This division is still ours for the taking. I still believe in them, they just need to get it fixed.

This is where leadership becomes imperative... both from a coaching and player perspective. What player(s) will step up? It's crunch time and everything that has happened before right now means squat. Who will step up and assume the leadership role? Our pitchers have pitched good enough, so who on the offensive end will step up? And whoever it is, better do it it like NOW!

Greg Schulte and Tom Candiotti said that the home plate ump wanted to end the game when calling the last two wide pitches on Overbay as strikes.

What was he supposed to do? Swing at pitches outside the strike zone to placate the umpire?

It looks like, now that the D'backs are no longer under the radar, David Stern is giving NBA anti-Phoenix lessons to MLB.

It didn't happen earlier in the game. Young has been drawing walks instead of swinging widly at pitches outside the strike zone.

Perhaps the D'backs reputation of come-from-behind victories during the final three innings has gotten the umps' attention.

Or maybe the home plate ump simply had to take a leak. :)

Diamondbacks beat the Padres 5-1 as Saunders pitched a gem. Magic number down to five. It will be nice to see them clinch the division at home instead of on the road, as they did in 2001 and 2007.

Thank the good lord. Talk about the worst sports weekend ever. So glad we didn't get swept. Great game Saunders.

Keep it simple:

Sweep the Pirates. Take 1 of 3 from the resurgent Giants.

Division sealed

Ian Kennedy with another fantastic outting. Tied his career high with 12 strikeouts in eight innings. The front office needs to sign Ian to an extension this offseason.
