It's just odd seeing Sendlein and the others standing on the sidelines.

Does anyone know the rationale behind requiring any veteran player who signed a new contract to have to wait until August 4th to be able to participate in TC?

I guess it's to give free agents more leverage when negotiating.

Someone on one of these forums said that it had to do with the union recertifying and waiting until their insurance kicks in? (I think):)

Lovely photos. Doing a little CIA analysis -

- Didn't see any overhanging guts (probably because the Deuce wasn't loose yet).

- Kolb was holding the ball kinda low.

- Saw a lot of Toler matched up one on one with Fitz.

- Nice size dude (shown below). Plug him in at LT.

Kolb cannot practice yet, he was likely just playing catch with somebody.....wouldn't read too much into it just yet.

But that wouldn't explain why veterans with hold over contracts could practice.

Strange no matter what the reason.

Edit: OK I found it.

The rule in the (new) CBA prohibits players who sign new contracts from practicing with their teams until the start of the new league year, which is Thursday, August 4th. This rule even applies to a free agent who re-signs with his team and it applies to many players who were traded this offseason, including Vikings QB Donovan McNabb.

Found some more. You were right about the insurance. For whatever reason players who weren't under contract or traded and signed a new deal can't be covered by the Insurance until the new CBA is ratified and that is supposed to be done by Thursday. I think.

This just means that we're going to see more of Skelton, Hall, and others on the 11th. 7 days isn't all that much time to prepare for a game. Game 2 will be Kolb's real debut.

New contracts can't participate until the new league year kicks in which is the 4th.

The pictures are great...thanks!

Dockett looks leaner...not smaller...just [imitates Goldmember] tight like a tiger. Maybe it's just the streamlined hairdo.

Beanie looks in shape. Saw him in a video too and he looked fast and quick as ever. Now if he can just not go down when someone breaths on his ankle.

Andre Roberts looks bigger. The more he can emulate Q the better. ;)

Can't tell about Schofield. Does anyone know exactly how much he weighs now?

I like the picture of Kolb knelt down in "stand around" Browns' ear. Hopefully he was motivating/threatening him to protect him and his concussion prone noggin.
