If Mayo has agreed to a deal with the Pacers, then it must be a prelude to Gordon deal with Phoenix being guaranteed. With both Gordon and Mayo having the same agent, and Mayo up to this point being unsigned or even known to be looking for a team, that either the Hornets have stated they won't match the Suns offer or a S&T has been reached bringing Gordon here. IMO, Mayo was being held off as far as signing somewhere cause Mayo was going to sign here if Gordon was going back to N.O.

It could also mean that Mayo's agent already knows Phoenix is not going that high in a contract for him even if Gordon is matched.

Watch what kind of contract Lopez gets offered. You think the numbers seem unreasonable now. . .

Would you guys honestly be ok with signing OJ Mayo for 8mil per? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be.

Besides, everyone in the media and on this board are convinced that Gordon signs with us and is matched immediately. Can someone give a good reason why New Orleans does that? Maybe list the pros and cons, because for that young team, the cons appear to outweigh the pros by A LOT, IMO.

can you give us your PROS/CONS because I don't see the cons outweighing the pros and surely not by a lot.

My Pros:

1) He's their best player
2) They'll control his rights and be able to trade him after six months instead of losing him for nothing.

My Cons:

1) He'll be butt hurt for a little bit if they resign him.

But it's not like he'll be the first player to be resigned to a contract he didn't want. The Clips did it with Elton Brand and Maggette back in the day when they got huge offer sheets and both guys pleaded with the Clips not to match. What happened? The Clips matched anyway and both guys played their butts off after. Gordon doesn't strike me as the prima-donna type who would just shut it down.

has there been any reported interest in OJ Mayo by the Phoenix Suns? It could be that Mayo's agent knows that they just don't have any interest at all. I am really surprised OJ Mayo would take that deal from the Pacers. I was convinced he would be closer to $10 million and at least three years.

Eric Gordon and OJ Mayo have the same agent. Thats probably why we haven't heard the Suns potential interest

Already did in another thread.

You have to look at the money situation as a big part of the cons. That's the big trump for me. Not Gordon's money, but NO's money and the amount they'll be tied to next season and beyond.

but the Hornets don't really have that many big contracts moving forward after the next couple years. Didn't they just get rid of two really bad contracts? And as a rebuilding young team, they're going to get rid of their one bona-fide player who's proven at least something in the league... for more guys who probably won't be as talented with mid-round picks?

if they actually like Gordon's game, considering they don't have really any big contracts on the books moving forward in a couple years (and Rivers and Davis won't see big pay days for at least another four years on their rookie contracts) it doesn't make sense for the team to get rid their best player because of financial concerns.

I read somewhere that with Gordon they will be at the cap limit with only 9 players signed. That's pretty crappy for a young rebuilding team.

for this year, yes. but they're still rebuilding anyway. and i think they get some major contracts off the books next year. that's why the deal would make sense for them to sign.

and even if I'm wrong on that, would we be in a much worse situation, pretty much at the cap limit for the next four years for a young rebuilding team, no?

edit: I could be wrong on the above. forgot that they just made that deal for Ryan Anderson.

who knows what's gonna happen.

The $13M for the Lewis buyout comes off. They will be in OK shape next season. The Anderson salary is really perplexing though.

@ESPNSteinLine: New free-agent development: G Jerryd Bayless has reached an agreement to sign with Memphis. Deal on course to be finalized later Wednesday.

Another guard off the FA list.

Wow i just read that memphis most likely signed him with their MLE of 3M per. Thats a great deal if thats true. I think he has far more potential than Mayo

Brook Lopez is going to get offered max contracts from Charlotte and Portland today and if he signs one of them, it will end all the Dwight Howard-to-Brooklyn talk.

And we didn't think that Gordon was worth a max deal.

Just because another undeserving player gets the max doesn't justify it. I was confident Gordon was getting maxed this year, I just hoped it wasn't the Suns that would do it.

I do think Gordon would be worth the max to the right team, basically a team that is 1 good wing away from contending. But that is not the Suns.

I wouldn't sign Eric Gordon at $15 million per season. I wouldn't sign OJ Mayo at $9-10 per season (that's what he's going to get), I would not sign Dragic at $8 million per season, and there's no way I would give Jason Richardson a three-year, $18 million deal.

Given that the Suns, without any of those signings, would be a long way from meeting the team salary requirement, how else would you propose spending the money? Eight D-league guys at $3 million each for one year?

Honestly, I'd rather spend up to the floor on one year deals to D leaguers than waste 3 years of money on Richardson. It would give us more flexibility and a better chance at a good draft pick.

Old vets need not apply for this team, they're completely wasted here.

Hornets just agreed to send Jarrett Jack to the Warriors. Don't know if that means anything for us, but just wanted to report it.

Thinking it might be a preleude to sending Marshall to N.O. in a Gordon S&T

They were going to be up against the cap threshold once they matched Gordon. Makes sense to clear some money assuming they match.

So, Brook Lopez is inked. The most beautiful thing about that is NO BK NETS FOR DWIGHT!

They won't have enough money to sign him as a FA either. So unless NJ ponies up for a s&t, Dwight will have to go somewhere else. Orlando still has options.
