Living in Portland may be swaying me, but I am on the Marcus Mariota bandwagon. The same guys who said Dion Jordan would struggle in the NFL feels Mariota is a smarter Kaepernick with stronger arm who will be a throw first, run second QB. Who needs a LT if you have that and with all the QB's, he could be there as late as 10.

But is he even going to be in this draft? Same with Hundley?

Hasn't Dion struggled? Well actually not on the field, because he can't get on the field. Finally got some play last week. Same injury he had in college.

I think Grantland's Bill Barnwell said Dion looked solid to good this week, but the Phins DL is deep.

I really like Mariota as well. He seems to have a good mix of taking chances down field while mitigating risk.

Hundley seems a bit too erratic in the games that I have watched but that total is maybe 4 or 5 games so I probably need to see more.

It is a good QB class so there should be no excuses in not taking QB one if we want to. The question becomes, do you pass on Barr or Lewan/Matthews for Boyd/Mariota/Hundley? That is a tough question IMO. There is a pert of me that would like to figure out a way to draft a pass rusher and a LT in rounds 1 and 2 and then trade up in 2015 for a QB in an RGIII deal.

Choppy Chops, do you see Terrelle Pryor as a QBOF?

I have a suspicion Chip Kelly will be all over drafting Mariota. Vick will not last. Most of the named QBs are option QBs. They might not have the life span of a drop back QB, thus the need for more of them or drafting them lower.

Put me down for Mariota if he comes out. He's just a redshirt soph so I wouldn't be shocked to see him stay another year. If he does come out though, I say we trade out of the number one spot (assuming we lose to Jax:)), rake in the extra picks and grab Mariota somewhere around the 10th spot.

I think if you surrounded Pryor with enough talent he could be effective, but that is more due to the NFL rules which are making it easier for college QBs to transition to the pros.

However, because it is Oakland, i don't believe that will happen. I think they will take Clowney, go forward with Pryor and continue to surround him w/ subpar talent which will exploit his weaknesses. The Raiders need a QB who can excell despite their flaws and I don't think Pryor is that guy.

Can we start a list of QB's who WOULDN'T be successful surrounded with talent or "if given time to throw"

And a list of QB's who would be successful not surrounded with talent?

Example: Peyton Manning has been surrounded with talent his whole career.

:)

Both Manning's have been successful without elite players around them. Same goes for Brady. Luck and Russell Wilson have not needed top talent. Tannehill has been good as well. Rodgers has elevated the level of his teammates.

Oh Poop, I forgot about Philly. Let's hope they go on a great run or is so bad Kelly is fired or quits.

Peyton and Eli have had some seriously good talent around them.

Colts had same talent around Curtis Painter after Peyton went down.
Painter garbage status doesn't take away from talent around Manning.

NOTE: My point is the phrase "could be successful if surrounded by talent" drives me crazy. :)

Why, there are several Super Bowl winning QB's who were just that. Trent Dilfer anyone?
