AzStevenCal and slinslin you are correct. The Suns can't sit Booker for obvious reasons such as monthly awards and end of the year awards. I got caught in myopic thinking for a moment believing he could use some rest. However, Chandler, Teletovic and Ronnie Price are potential candidates if the situation were amiable.

I really look forward to this... how is he a fraud?

He's not. And if he's overrated, he's less overrated than Sarver. But we don't need to break that down again.

Anyway, not a surprise. I didn't imagine Hinkie would last, either of his own volition or not. And if Jerry's going to bring someone in as an interim (that's actually my bigger question: is it interim?) why would we expect it not to be BC?

The fraud refers to Jerry, right? Because Bryan is a fraud as GM. His Toronto stint was the start of that, but also the fact he hasn't sniffed a job since 2013 sort of proves that, IMO. The Philly situation is a mess. They spent 3 years tanking and now they're shifting strategy? They have young talent and picks, but it could all go to hell if they get desperate and use their assets for mediocre talent that barely gets them in the playoffs.

That's what Philly fans fear. The difference is that JC is BC's boss. JC has never been satisfied with just making the playoffs. Also, his concept of an NBA team fits today's NBA better than ever. There is a reason for that. JC wrote and pushed for the rules that forced the changes.

I think Philly is going to be just fine.

Tele is going to be a free agent and is looking for his big pay day. He is auditioning for every team he plays against. You cannot sit him. Suns mgmt gets criticized for treating players poorly (all the players complaining when they leave). Fans cannot expect Suns mgmt to treat a player poorly and then criticize mgmt for doing so.

My take on the Colangelo in Philly story:

The league office came down on the Sixers. The NBA commissioners office does not like tanking. They do not like it when teams, over multiple years, make no effort to be competitive. They sent in JC to right the ship and JC is not going to tolerate 2 or 3 more years of NBA cellar dwelling. It became clear that Hinkie would not go along with the new approach.

FWIW

I don't blame the league. Revenue sharing is the only reason Philly was able to get away with their pathetic routine, if the league is paying to keep your franchise afloat then the league should be able to step in if the franchise has become a parasite.

I get tanking when things go bad, but 4 years of deliberately awful basketball is waaaaay too much, and it still had no end in sight. Hinkie should have been fired.

Excellent post.

So, how about this wild idea? Eliminate the draft completely. Go to a 100% hard cap. Give the teams with lesser records more cap money (subsidized by the league) to spend on players. Also, raise the max lesser teams can pay individual players. Pay the teams that win it all a huge bonuses for each round they win in the playoffs.

Owners who habitually win get to keep more for themselves.
Owners who habitually lose get to spend more on players, in order to eventually win and keep more for themselves.

I am sure it is a bad idea, but I will throw it out there.

Imagine that. Brandon Ingram comes out and he can take $2 million and play for the Warriors or $5 million and play for the Suns. His choice.

Right... Because FIVE games of not playing at the end of the year is going to KILL his FA chances. If he's got a big payday coming, those five games won't matter.

That said, it's highly unlikely there's any kind of big payday coming for him. Guys who put up okay stats on awful teams ain't exactly hot commodities on the FA market.

So you are saying that Mirza will NOT get a big pay day this summer, and his play of late would have no bearing on it whatsoever.

Ok. Hmmm.

Runner up for most three pointers by a sub vs sitting for five closing meaningless games. Hummm.

yes. that's what I'm saying. I thought I was pretty clear on that.

these are meaningless stats in meaningless games.

and hell, I don't even think you sit him five straight games. You be strategic about giving all the guys nights off, just so you don't have your full squad playing. This isn't that difficult to understand, but as usually is the case here, there are some that will defend the team no matter what it does. Hell, there were some people even defending the Morrii for some unknown reason, simply because they were Suns.

And we're a meaningless team. There is no reason in the world that our roster should have been able to put together a win last night.

Maybe we bench Teletovic if we knew that Houston was going to give such a piss poor effort but what happens when we beat them even without him? Most of the fans here think Leuer is the better player, why not congratulate the team for only playing him 10 minutes last night? Stuff happens, last night it happened to us and we won our first game in our last 8.

This. We have sucked royally for quite some time now with the players that we had on the floor on Thursday. So why is it now all of the sudden a bad move to let that same group players keep playing? The Rockets should have destroyed us in their own building and they didn't. So if Suns fans are going to bicker about this win maybe they should aim it at the Rockets for playing like crap.

I think that is the primary issue, when you want to lose, but the other team treats you like they do not have to even try to win, well, something inside kicks in. People at the game were saying the Suns were trash talking all night, I assume trying to shame the Rockets into a little effort.

A lot of high priced tickets being sold for Kobe's last game and the Warriors setting record in both LA and SF respectively.

The Heat had a 24 point lead on the Celtics at halftime tonight, gave back 20 points with a 5 point 3rd quarter and now are 10 down with 50 sec to play. This puts the Heat, Celts, Charlotte and Hawks in a 4 way tie at 48-34...3-6 seeds.

That's a night that goes down in NBA history... Even bigger if the Warriors pull off the title.

Man valanciunas is a beast on the boards so far in game 1. 17 boards midway through the third quarter.

The Pacers beat the Raptors in a mild surprise in the playoff opener.
