Keep your fingers crossed.

And by the trade deadline, some of the teams will be regretting these moves, locking up their financial flexibility for years to come.

Also some of the players being discarded are good players.

This post sounds like Ebeneezer Scrooge.

Adrian Wojnarowski @wojespn

Chauncey Billups has withdrawn from consideration for Cleveland's President of Basketball Operations job, league sources tell ESPN.

The best thing that could happen for everyone but the Cavs is if they give the GM job to Rich Paul. Who knows if he'd accept but having him not handling the contracts of the dozen players he has as an agent will save a lot of GM's a lot of headaches. He'd be stuck with the mess he created with JR Smith and Tristan Thompson's ridiculous contracts keeping them from having any flexibility.

That doesn't bode well for Utah. When the Jazz were still in the playoffs George Hill was talking about how he'd like to resign with Utah so long as Hayward does. He may have the inside scoop on what Gordon's plans are. He's definitely getting Boston and Miami coming at him hard.

Am I the only one that thinks it might be a little unsatisfying to play in Utah for all those Mormon fans given the pretty recent history of the church?

Kevin Durant's Warriors contract expected to be $25 million, I’m told, with player option for 2017-18. Max was $34.5 mil. Major sacrifice.

Utah is one of the places that you usually see mentioned as a tough place to play because they have a really loyal and loud fanbase. Playing there as a visitor and playing there as a member of the team are 2 different things though. I can't recall Utah ever signing a high quality free agent though, even when Malone and Stockton were there.

Side story about Durant: If Andre Iguodala had left, I'm told Durant was going to give even more than this back to make room for Rudy Gay.

They are so much better off with Iggy than Rudy Gay. Iggy is everything that the Warriors need, and everything Gay is not.

Rudy Gay could be a quality 6th man but wouldn't have the impact that Iggy does. He plays PG with the 2nd unit, is a defensive leader, and usually guards the opposing team's top player. A lineup of Curry, Thompson, Gay, Durant, and Green would be even more of an offensive juggernaut, which is hard to imagine.

Eh, Iggy moves the ball while Gay stops it. Outside of the big two, they don't need a ton of scoring as much as they need defense and passing/ ball movement. Gay would be a terrible fit there.

Minnesota is offering up OKC's first round pick in 2018 to anyone who takes Cole Aldrich off of their hands. He's due $7.3 million this year and his deal is $6.9 million in 2018-19 but only $2 million is guaranteed. The Suns should jump on this. If they got Aldrich they might as well renounce Len.

OKC picked 21st last year, and will probably be between 20-25 next year. Not bad to take a player for 1 season who plays at a position of need for us.

Hmm. $9.3 million for a pick in the 20's. That's a lot. I would ask for cash too. $3 million or so.

It would certainly be worth a look. Who knows what the Suns are exploring.

Cole has never played more than 15 min per game and I suspect that is about his limit. He's a good rebounder and an average defender who plays within his limitations on offense. He's actually a pretty good passer when he gets his head into the game - I recall one game against the Knicks where he was really cutting us up when he was on the floor. If we traded Chandler away we could use someone like him or if Len is gone. We do want to leave some minutes for Bender at the 5, and maybe for Chriss, too.

That pick is trash. Heavily protected that would turn into a 2nd rounder.

That pick is only lottery protected, #1-14 in 2018, 2019, and 2020, so I wouldn't call it a trash pick or even heavily protected. OKC will make the playoffs this coming season so it should convey in the next draft. It will probably be in the 20-25 range like their pick was this year but that's not bad compensation to take a young center, who is at least as good as Len, for 1 season.

Here is a tweet from Marc Stein mentioning the protection...

2018 first round draft pick from Oklahoma City[/B said:
Oklahoma City's 1st round pick to Minnesota (via Utah) protected for selections 1-14 in 2018, 1-14 in 2019 and 1-14 in 2020; if Oklahoma City has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Minnesota by 2020, then Oklahoma City will instead convey its 2020 2nd round pick and 2021 2nd round pick to Minnesota [Detroit-Oklahoma City-Utah, 2/19/2015; Minnesota-Utah, 6/30/2017]

Pacers signed Collison. Wanted a Knight for Ellis/Jefferson swap and waive them saving 20 mil.

Hard to believe BK averaged 20/4/5 two years ago. Those were similar numbers as Holiday who just got 125 mil.
