i believe we SHOULD HAVE beat that offer. we're in the position to gamble

but i'd more prefer to gamble on Morant
though i confess i've got nothing to ge on but hype

Are we in a position to gamble - We would not get another PG if we had made that trade because our cap space would be gone. Would you really be willing to bet he was the answer? He is really more combo guard than distributor.

Orlando has more cap space - it makes more sense for them.

What does that mean?

Say we get the 5th pick - Morant is going 2nd or 3rd and the 5th pick is a huge step down in value. What are we trading to move up? I don't see it.

Maybe if we get the 3rd pick and think Morant will go second they would move up - otherwise I think they trade out of the draft.
We will do the same thing Dallas did to trade from 5th to 3rd.

And
The guy's been turning the ball over at a ridiculous rate against weak conference opponents not exactly known for good defense. And his shot is no longer falling, either. And his defense was never any great shakes. He is going to be eaten alive in the NBA.
the guy is averaging over 10 assists and about 25 points, his turnover rate is far from insane

Wow. Not sure if already discussed. To lazy to review the entire thread. So Fultz was traded by by 76ers (basically giving up on him) to the Magic.

I remember many on this board (maybe even me) being high on him.

He was traded for a 29 year old role player putting up 6.9 PPG.

OUCH!
Interesting thing here is that this could help us. The closest competitor we have in the offseason when trying to sign a PG has been Orlando. Does this make their need for a high-priced star PG lessen? Fultz is no sure thing, but he's making a lot of money for them to not consider him as a starting PG.

Possibly. I mean if he works out for them or they see signs of life it could pull them out of the market.

Either way, this stings for a #1 to be traded for Simmons. YIKES!

Just by way of example, last game against one of the worst teams in the entire country, 5 assists, 9 turnovers.

7 assists. 5 steals. 28 points on 9-17 shooting in a WIN.

Yeah, he had 9 turnovers and the opposing team is 7-16 in a small conference.

But come on...

Last 5 games, he's averaging over 26 ppg and 9 apg and that's similar to his season averages. Is he guaranteed to be good? Nobody is.

But you're posting like the guy has been horrible lately and that's obviously not the case.

5 assists, not 7.

7 turnovers in the previous game, a blowout loss against that great power Jacksonville State.

5 turnovers in the loss to Belmont. 5 turnovers against Auburn. 10 turnovers against Alabama.

No, thanks.

ESPN lists it at 7.

Maybe it's 5. Either way, your hatred for the guy is not grounded in reality.

I don't hate him personally. I just think he is way overhyped and is due for a rude awakening when he faces real competition in the NBA. He hasn't showed in college what the likes of Curry and Lillard did in college, and yet he is being touted as the next Lillard or Curry, and the Suns appear to be buying hype hook, line and sinker and putting all of their eggs into his basket.

At best, he is another CJ McCollum, and it took McCollum years to become serviceable at the NBA level, and the Blazers already had Lillard in tow when that happened.

I just think it is beyond foolish for an NBA franchise to count on Morant as their savior at the point guard position. Morant's performance in college doesn't warrant it. He has had some flashy scoring and assist numbers, but overall he has not shown he is anywhere near capable of leading an NBA franchise to victory at the point.

yes, either Morant is available at our pick position or he can be had by adding assets

it is certainly worth holding off on a pg move until the draft
by then we'll know more about Morant
and others

We are already getting to know more about Morant. Frankly, he needs at least another year in college before he should even think of making the jump to the NBA.

The sun's have plenty of trade assets to get a good PG or can clear more space in the off-season to sign a point guard if they want. its not like their lack of trades at the deadline cements the draft as the only possible way to upgrade that position

Looks like another version of Sexton from what I’ve seen but weaker. The Suns need a legit veteran PG next year.

It seems pretty clear their focus is on the draft, though. They have eaten up the bulk of their cap space and don't have much left in terms of tradeable assets with matching salaries that they can afford to use.

That's a pretty good comparison, only add against much weaker competition as well.

Sexton is not a facilitator. Morant is legitimately good in that department.

Except his assist-to-turnover ratio is poor, he is a turnover machine lately (if you're frustrated with Josh Jackson's turnovers, you ain't seen nkthing yet), and his passing fundamentals are bad.

He is flashy in that department and can put up gaudy assist numbers. He is not "good" in that department.

He’s got more turnovers than assist vs legit competition so we don’t know how good of a facilitator he is. He just reminds me of Sexton when he plays. He’s an athletic attacking scorer but mediocre shooter who doesn’t defend. Maybe he proves to be more a complete PG in a few years but I doubt it.

Just wait until Booker, Ayton and Jackson all ask out once their frustration boils over...
