When all the debating about qbotf is over & we somehow get to see Mayfield in a Cards jersey. I think most of the board myself included would be relived at the least. The alternative of front office drafting different position in 1st rd is still a bit of concern to me.
I still like Darnold...and my guess is that if BA is still the coach come draft time there is no way Mayfield is the pick...
but I dont care who they get...just so long as he is the right one....and honestly,... just so they actually TRY to strike gold...pick a guy, go get that guy in the top 5 of the draft,...then roll with him.... if it fails it fails, but at least they took a shot.

The Big 12 defenses have been bad for years & years now that's no doubt! But let's not pretend Mayfield hasn't done the same things again teams outside the conference...ie Ohio St in Columbus is just 1 to mention
The same OSU defense that got 55 points put up on them today and 38 last week. OSU's defense was good last year but lost a lot of talent, particularly in the secondary. We'll see how OU does in the college playoffs.

From a non-expert on QB's, it does seem to me that Mayfield is now #1. All that proves, that unless we tank, we won't get him. If SF has the #1 pick they should get a nice haul for trading down.

Any semblance of offense has scored on OSU this year. Through the first 3 games, iirc, they were last or next to last in pass defense this year. It had gotten better until the last 2 weeks but that's because of the teams they played and not their play on the field. Hooker. Lattimore, Vonn Bell, and Conley were all take within the top 61 picks last year.

How Mayfield did against that defense is probably a better indicator than this year.

I watched the first half of the Bedlam game yesterday & Rudolph was the better passer imo. A lot more accurate & better thrown balls.

Rudolph really didn’t do much to impress me yesterday. Baker, on the other hand, did.

OU/OSU was fun

What I liked:
Rudolph: a variety of throws that said " upper tier NFL arm " you see why a guy like Arians would like him. stands tall in the pocket with people around him and delivers.

Mayfield: love how he makes these little moves in the pocket to buy time, but keeps the eyes downfield i think his arm is good enough i also think he throws with anticipation

On local radio they were talking about Rudolph having an AC joint injury in his throwing shoulder. He wasn't near as accurate as usual in my opinion. I've watched every game he's played at Osu and he wasn't on. Plus, he made 2 crucial mistakes, an interception in the end zone from the 3 yard line and a fumble at their own 20. Both defenses were atrocious.

Why the hate for Keim? I would love to see us take a young qb, have cp come back for one more year to let the kid learn from him and we don’t miss a stride for the next 15 years in making the playoffs every year.

I know the speculation is that Keim and scouts went to see Rudolph but what if they were actually going to scout James Washington? A little smoke screen? But I am with you, either Jackson or Mayfield should be the guy not Rudolph or Josh Allen. BA & SK seem enamored with big, immobile pocket passers with big arms. You need a QB who can move around, avoid the rush and get the ball out quickly and accurately.

If Mayfield was 6'3 or 6"4 his skill set & production wouldn't even be questioned IMO. He would be the #1 guy. Ignore being 6'1" & watch the games peeps!!! Brees & Wilson agree lol :moon:

I don’t hate Keim & I definitely agree with you with taking a young QB. I just hope the young QB isn’t Rudolph or Allen.

Man, that’s what I’m hoping. Definitely wouldn’t be mad at JWashington being the 2nd round pick.

By and large you’re telling people to rely on exceptions to the rule. By definition exceptions to the rule are very rare. If Mayfair is the real deal someone will see it. But saying just look at Brees and Wilson is a flimsy argument. It’s like sayin “just draft a QB in the 6th round. Look at Tom Brady”

Darnold is still the best option out there for me. I don't believe much in the coaching staff at USC, and believe the team and Darnold's success is despite them. I would rather have a QB who takes risks and has to dial it back vs asking a passive QB to take more risks.

I can't determine where I stand on the trio of Lamar Jackson, Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield.

I really worry about Mayfield's size. Yes, there are guys in the NFL who are successful with similar size. In my view, they are the exceptions, not the rule. In terms of his arm strength, it passes the eye test in a clean pocket, but I haven't seen a play where the pocket is muddy, and he is still driving it down the field. I'm not saying it isn't out there, but I haven't seen it if it is. He seems like a legit leader which is important. I don't know how much of a grinder he is. I like that he is aggressive, and is mobile.

Rosen is very polished coming out which I like. His frame reminds of of Goff in terms of being very lean. I don't love that. He seems to have the requisite physical tools. I don't know about his personality. He reminds me a bit of Cutler in how he talks.

I can see the strides Lamar Jackson has made in a year, and I like them. The one worry I have about him is the same worry I had about Marcus Mariota. He is big, but not real big. They are both athletic, but worked to be a better pocket QB. However, like Mariota, I don't know that Jackson can change as much as he needs to. I like his attitude, and physical skills.

I like Josh Allen more than most on this board. I like his physical tools. I understand the concerns. I wonder how good the coaching is up in Wyoming, and I view his year last year as a better barometer for what he will look like in the Pros. The gap is much closer between him and the rest of the field than I thought it would be to start the season. His accuracy worries me.
