Wow Zach Lowe says one NBA exec told him NBA teams view RJ Barrett's contract as "a toxic asset".

Never been a fan, selfish player can't shoot but man toxic is pretty harsh?

I'm still surprised by that trade. The Knicks won in that they got the best player, Anunoby, and didn't even need to part with a 1st. Losing Quickley hurts a little but they needed size to help cover for Mitchell Robinson's injury and upgraded at SF. The Raptors have to be convinced RJ will sell tickets as a Canadian from the Toronto area.

I was saying this before he even got the contract. The Knicks hadn't given a draft pick a 2nd contract in 20 something years and they do it on a huge bust. His contract is insane. For 3 years they've played better whenever he doesn't play.

Barrett is the archetype of the counter productive "star". He shoots a lot... he's bad at shooting, he doesn't create good shots for teammates, he sucks on defense. It is startling how many of these guys there are in the league, some of them getting paid real money. To me, it's the easiest sign of a bad front office when they pursue those types of players.

The Knicks absolutely robbed the Raptors.

They got a really good player and dumped bad player on a terrible contract at the same time.

Agreed.

What I can't agree on is that the Raptors won this trade, social media thinks this.

I agree he's not a good player but the word toxic is REALLY strong. I have no idea what he's like in the lockerroom etc maybe that's an issue too.

I assume Toronto figured he'd put butts in the seats, he's Canadian, his dad is head of the Canadian national team so they probably figure Canadians will go see him play.

I just thought the word toxic was pretty unusual to use

Western Conference...

We know the Spurs and Trailblazer are out of it, but how do you all feel about the Jazz and Grizz?
I think the Jazz are tanking as they could probably take over the Lakers and Warriors.
The Grizz will do all they can to make a push before they shut it down for the season but i think its a little too late now.

Words like "toxic" carry very little meaning nowadays. It's thrown around all over social media at the slightest hint something is negative. It doesn't carry the weight it did 5-10 years ago. Toxic isn't alone in that regard but it's definitely one of the more popular buzzwords nowadays.

I think he was talking about the contract being toxic, not Barrett's personality. It is a toxic contract because it's a ton of money attached to a bad player.

Brad Beal's contract is toxic... we only took it because we were already way over the cap.

Ben Simmons contract is toxic... so is Ben Simmons.

Actually you're right I reread it and it does refer to the contract not Barrett himself.

So my bad on that one

I doubt Ricky Rubio is coming back to the Suns or the NBA. He had high praise for the Cavaliers. If he does play again, it will probably be in Spain.

Holy crap. Warriors up 18 at home with 6 minutes to go lose in regulation on a Jokic 35 footer at the buzzer! 130-127. Curry down the stretch missed several shots but still had a chance to win it, instead they doubled him and Murray stole the crosscourt pass. Timeout Denver, 3.4 left Jokic dribbled up the side and nailed a 35 footer at the buzzer.

This season is just cursed.

And Jokic is unreal 34 one board short of another triple double. Gordon had 15 in the 4th including the unlikely 3 and a tip that I can't believe went in.

Earlier in the quarter Jokic tried to sucker the ref into calling a foul on Podz while guarding him upcourt. The ref didn't call it the Warriors called timeout and you could see Kerr telling Jokic "don't do that, it's not basketball." But in the end Joker got the last laugh

Or, how about rumors of Siakam being traded to the Warriors?

Siakam and Sabonis seem like a bad pairing.

I think it would help solve some issues in Sacramento. Siakam isn't a rim protector but he's more of one than Sabonis and would help their interior defense.

If Sacramento gets him then I really like how they match up with Denver. Not saying they'd be favorites but it gives them a chance.

Yeah todays rumor is Kuminga and Moody for Siakam and I assume something else.

Moody has been buried of late due to the emergence of Podz, and Kuminga a few days ago questioned the sub patterns of Kerr and then after that was "Cleared up" he did it again after last nights game. To be fair, Anthony Slater of the Athletic really screwed Kuminga, Windhorst is on ESPN ripping Slater for doing it.

Per reports Slater essentially caught Kuminga right after the game, they blew an 18 point lead, lost at the buzzer on a 39 footer by Joker, Kuminga had a great game but sat the last 16 minutes for who knows what reason. And then Slater started talking to him about it and Kuminga did what a 21 year old in that situation would do, vent. And Slater went public with it.

I'm actually at the point where I think they ought to keep Kuminga and move on from Kerr(after the season). Kerr has had a great run but I think the last 3 years have shown he's not very good at coaching young players and developing them. Now is where I wish they still had Mike Brown and could convince Kerr to retire for Brown, but that ship sailed to Sacramento.

But if they're going to go after Siakam, it appears that's the likely offer.

But with CP3 out for awhile now, broken hand, surgery Monday apparently, who knows now if they will bother to make a deal? Figures, CP3 had been due for an injury.

My biggest fear with the CP3 injury is they're going to rush Draymond back now to get a playmaker in the lineup instead of doing what's best for Green, and the team, and keeping him out longer.

I saw the Kuminga comments, how he's lost faith in realizing his potential with Kerr as coach. It doesn't force Golden State's hand but it's not a good look either. Swapped him and whatever else for Siakam is likely in all player's involved best interest but I don't know what drafting capital they have but I can't see Toronto doing another deal where they don't get picks.

Not sure how the Warriors can rush Draymond back. Isn't he still suspended? Has there been any movement on that as far as a timeframe.
