Every team is only one or two big injuries (especially at QB) away from being a threat to us on this list. That's why Andrew Luck ended up being a Colt.
They straight up tanked for Luck. There hasn't been a tank job that obvious since IMO, only surpassed by Tim Duncan.

In order of most likely to be worse to least likely:

Las Vegas
Tampa
Chicago
Washington
Denver
Carolina
Rams
Indy
Detroit
New England
I honestly believe Indy is a sneaky candidate to hold the #1 pick if it won’t be us. I also believe you’re underrating Carolina & Denver(with Payton) big time.

In this first season, they have no reason to rush him. Everyone has a mulligan. He also gets the ability to learn the system and watch from the sideline each week. Right now they're just playing the game.
Quite the opposite, there is no mulligan season for KM. It really sucks for him, but if he doesn't show he's the guy, he's likely gone/demoted behind a top rookie QB. This is a new regime with the possibility at a shot at the QB of their choice in the draft. If they aren't all in on KM after this season, he is very vulnerable.

He really needs to show he's the guy this year or they draft another QB

I like your enthusiasm, I just don't agree with it.

My hope is that whenever he comes back, he's not getting leveled because he misjudges how developed his knee/muscles are. With our line, he'll have opportunities to test it.

The last Cardinal star to have plus quickness that endured an ACL was Honey Badger. He was a step slow for a couple of seasons. It would be an amazing feat imo if Kyler looks even 80 percent of the way back by the final game. Week 4 is 3 1/2 months earlier than that. Oct 1st (week 4) is only 7 1/2 weeks from now.

Given his previous levels of athletic ability, it is going to be beyond obvious if he's rushing it, and imo rushing would harm him more than most players. Everything they've shown so far that I've seen has been single-direction movements and really short takes. The vast majority of vids are moving straight ahead. I haven't seen any change of direction explosiveness. I see a lot of time-altered takes that mask whatever his explosion level actually is. We really have no clue what his level of athleticism is.

All the rah-rah from coaches seem to be extremely optimistic with the language without actually stating any concrete markers. Forget playing. Even practicing. You heard Murray about two weeks ago brush off any timeline.

August 6th

Ertz tore his mcl and had a damaged acl, so they repaired it too. He's also older, but had surgery no later than Nov 17th., or ~6-7 weeks before Murray did. If he was on the Murray Week 4 timeline, that would mean ready to start at the latest, Aug 17th or Week 2 preseason. He hasn't even started practicing yet.

Maybe apples and oranges, but it is the same coaching/medical staff in the same year preparing them for return.

Also, Murray(and ertz) is on the Active PUP list. He has until the end of the preseason to come off. If he doesn't he will miss the first four weeks at minimum. Until given reason to think otherwise, he's on track to be on the PUP list to start the season. Thus even week five would be the most optimistic and imo not realistic.

New coaches. New system. New center(s). He needs some reps. I doubt he gets activated and has just that week's practice.

But none of this is the main point.

The Cardinals have $$$$ and morale motive by promoting the earliest possible date he can be back. No team in a similar situation is going to say otherwise regardless of when Murray actually comes back. The company line will always be to quote the best case and massage perception into appearing Murray is in the ballpark of achieving it. I would take any media projected date said with a grain of salt until he's activated and we actually see him running plays in practice.

In this first season, they have no reason to rush him. Everyone has a mulligan. He also gets the ability to learn the system and watch from the sideline each week. Right now they're just playing the game.
I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree on this subject. Do I think your argument is wrong? No. In most cases, it would be absolutely, positively correct. I just don’t think you’re taking into account the absurdly competitive nature of Kyler Murray. Especially, when he’s had to endure a coaching staff and FO that dragged him down, muddied his reputation, and never put him in a sustainable position to succeed. I have followed the Kyler Murray story long before he was ever a Cardinal. He was coached hard his entire life, and that’s the environment that he thrives in. I don’t think I need to go into details on what the Cardinal environment was like under SKKK. We all know that by now. Enter someone as competitive as JG, and now you’re speaking a language that K1 LOVES and thrives on. Murray will be back sooner rather than later because he’s been wrongly impugned, ridiculed, and made fun of. And regardless of anything that is being said by the media, or even by JG or MO, JG wants him back sooner rather than later also. MOJG both know and understand that they cannot build anything sustainable here until Murray is under center. Otherwise, they run the risk of losing more than half that locker room before Kyler ever steps on that field. It’s still my contention that Murray is way closer to returning than what’s being reported. Kyler has worked his butt off because he has been totally disrespected by almost everyone. Kyler knows he’s almost ready, as does both JG and MO. But, time will tell.

There isn't 'a player' for the Cards to tank for right now, which is the amazing part. At this point, I don't think they are tanking for Williams/Maye. We still aren't sure what we have in Kyler. We will be bad, but 'tank for Luck' bad.

Too many variables. When Kyler returns being the biggest. But also new staff, new scheme etc

If Kyler returns early and plays like I expect him too then 7-10. If not then 5-12.

I agree. I meant for the Cardinals far moreso. Bad wording. After the fact they can play that game with Murray if they don't take a qb

I agree Murray wants out there, but the franchise needs to protect him from himself for itself.

But as I said, whenever he comes back, if it's too soon, there will be no hiding it. Especially not NFL DCs and players.

The proof will be in the pudding.

I hope your feeling is right. That they're hiding his progress or something. To me and history, it seems unreasonable to think he is.

As you said time will tell

After watching a real NFL offense last night and a coach with poise, I think Kyler will thrive in this offense.
He will be the engine…and not the engine, drive train, tires and gasoline.
