Luckily, I only believe about 10% of the stuff I read here.

Please elaborate.

Monty has a very long history of getting into it with players. He’s super childish he seems like he can’t separate his feelings from his work.

Eric Gordon, Chris Paul, Jay Crowder, Ayton

It’s what Monty does and who he’s proven to be over the years.

I don't understand this. It's part of the job, no? Pop has a very long history of chewing players out. Is he super childish too?

I've never heard anyone say that Pop refused to communicate with another player. And with Monty v Ayton we're not talking about just shutting off communication with a key player for a quarter or a game or a week or a month or even a summer.

You’re talking about two very different things dude. Honestly we’ve gone over this a million times on this board about Monty and his lack of communication and people skills.

If you think Monty and Pop are the same then IDK

Not just Ayton though. Ayton got the attention but legit media was reporting Monty and Paul were getting into it at the end of our 64 win season and in that Dallas series.

Then you have the whole Crowder situation.

I know it wasn't just Ayton. And I remember hearing the stories about him alienating and freezing out players when he coached the Hornets too.

Yeah, it's two times now that has had issues dealing with players as a head coach. It's clear that a lot of players like him, but he just can't help, but to piss off some of them every where he goes.

Yeah I think he gets along well with most of the players but there appear to be too many exceptions.

It's funny how you say you're old because I know how old you are, roughly, and I'd say you're in the younger group of posters here. This board skews older. Quite a few posters remember the Suns becoming a team and the Kareem coin flip. I don't mean they had vision quests to relive those moments either.

I feel old. I think being in your 40s is old.

I doubt many if any on here think it is all on Monty. Though I think it's weird that you don't seem to want to admit that Monty was at least partially at fault here.
I'm not sure anyone here thinks it's all on Monty or maybe even mostly on Monty. But Monty is supposed to be the grownup when things like this happen.

I think it's weird you're trying to act like it was only a Monty Williams and DeAndre Ayton situation when it clearly wasn't

Ayton pulled the same exact crap with CP3, Mikal Bridges, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant AND THAT WAS ALL JUST THIS YEAR

So it's all of their faults too??

Does Monty deserve part of the blame? I reckon we'll know the answer to that this season when Frank Vogel can't get more out of DeAndre Ayton

I think it's clear that Monty played a role in the team flaming out 2 years in a row. Not only due to in game coaching, but also due to issues with personnel.

Ayton's exit interview with JJ after the season was all about how they planned on using him going forward and according to JJ, Ayton has been in the gym this offseason working on those things. Seems fair to say that those things aren't the things that Monty had him doing.

It's also clear that once Monty likes you he will ride with you regardless how you are playing and once he doesn't like you he will tend to keep you on the sidelines regardless how the other guys are playing.

Except this ignores Monty had issues with other players like McGee and Crowder. He went through long stretches of playing guys that were clearly struggling because other guys fell out of favor. This isn't just an Ayton problem. I am with you on all your stuff on Ayton but Monty definitely takes some blame no matter what Vogel does. This doesn't even address Monty's horrible track record with game adjustments.

I am rather familiar with these opinions - and again - Ayton spending time in the gym isn't going to solve a damn thing because his issues are mental issues - issues that can't be simulated in or fixed in a practice setting

Problem is Ayton chokes on the big stage - and Monty never once put his hands around the big man's neck - we're talking self induced chokage - he just can't handle the moment

But anyways I'll be more than happy to revisit all of this later in the season should Ayton continue to disappear or magically turn into a different person
