On a side note, Christian Wood still available is a surprise. I know people criticize his defense but he looked like an All Star the first part of last season before be got hurt and Kidd cut his playing time. Even if he defense isn't great, hard to see why a 17 / 7 guy with a 51%/38%/74% shooting line is still available unless he is not ready to take a minimum but the free agent money well is tapped so he will need to settle for a minimum deal or hope a team with the full MLE is interested in him.
I have a feeling, based on some speculation that I've read about, that he will end up with the Lakers.

Makes sense given guarantee AD will miss about half the season so he'll get playing time. Thing is minimum deal is what he will get and money won't go far in LA. But then again maybe his market doesn't have many suitors.

I feel Jones needs to fill the starting PF spot as none of the FA signings are suited for that role full time. Durant needs to stay at SF as he shouldn't be banging with bigger and stronger PF's. I would take a flier on Bol but maybe Ishbia has his sights on a bigger name.

I think the combination of KD and Bates-Diop should work.

Christian Wood is not liked anywhere he goes and he's already been on several teams. The fact Dallas traded for him then benched him and did not want him back tells me all I need to know because they are certainly are a team that could use reliable productive big men.

Even at SF I think KD is going to bang and compete for rebounds regardless - it's just how he's built - but the logic is still sound imo

If we have two bodies bigger than KD on the court - and if Beal/Booker is our backcourt - Durant can do whatever he wants whenever he wants - he can bring the ball up court and he can bang for rebounds

Beal just adds so much to the possibilities - with his skilllset and size - and with KD and Book on the court - teams may be forced to play their smallest guard one on one on Beal lol and that's going to be fun

What I'm worried about also is if/when Ishbia loses interest. Right now we're his shiny new toy and he's building a contender but if it doesn't work? When does he get bored and move on to the next project. There's definitely some questions. I trust he'll be dedicated for the next 2-3 years but we'll be paying for Durant and Beal for 7 years. There is a real possibility he's not a hands on owner when those final picks convey.

Everyone is acting like he's some lone billionaire who will buy us whatever we want or need but there are 30+ billionaires who own NBA teams. There's no shortage of them in the world Ishbia just entered. Cuban acted similarly when he bought the Mavericks and it got him nothing except enemies in the league office. No one knows Ishbia, we have less than 6 months of history to base things on. His name was never floated around here before he became the winning bidder earlier last season. So people saying he'll do anything should recognize he just paid a small fortune for 60% of the team and no one knows how long he'll remain active as owner and whether that's a positive or negative.

I do get the relief Sarver is gone and Ishbia seems quite different but Sarver wasn't really someone we all disliked right away. It takes time to learn who someone is.
He’s a basketball guy. Not just some fanboy. Remember he played VERY high collegiate basketball for izzo at Michigan state. And he’s a MULTIbillionaire. I don’t think many people get how much money that actually is. A bllionaire has an absurd amount of $$$. A multibillionaire just has a stupid amount of money - and that money compounds at a ridiculous rate at that level.

And he only owns 60% of the club. I've even heard 58%. He seems to be in charge and also willing to pony up cash to buy out those who wanted out but how long do the other owners go along with paying the tax? If he needs to buy out any large stakes in the team then is he as willing to pay big into the tax as well? That's a lot going out quickly and it's unlikely he'll see that return for a while So yes, hes super rich and that's great but so is Steve Balmer, so is Dan Gilbert, so is Mark Cuban. Yes, hes played collegiately but he's still a new owner. That helps level the playing field as most other competing owners have had their team for a while, decades. Is he going to be as invested in 5-10 years as he is now? Eventually it'll stop being fun if he's spending hundreds of million a year and not winning championships. Even Balmer has tightened his purse strings a bit with the new CBA. Hopefully we win and that's a moot point, as it's been for Golden State but if we don't, then what? The new CBA is very restrictive.

Things seem a bit too rosy right now and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Eventually it will. Isiah Thomas isn't the only stain on Ishbia's ownership tenure. What that ends up being, who knows, and I don't want to speak anything into existence either. Things do seem a bit too good to be true though, especially coming off 2 decades of Sarver. I think we can agree there. Hopefully it pans out but part of me still is concerned for the future, a lot less post Beal trade but we'll see how that plays out.

By all means, you’re free to worry about 4-5 years from now. Me? I’m going to enjoy an incredibly talented team for the next few YEARS.

Remember, Ishbia gave his brother part ownership. While that may not deepen Matt's pockets, it essentially makes his share of the team ownership higher in theory.

I am having trouble wrapping my head around this pick swap trade. Can someone explain it like on a 3rd grade level?
So I watched a podcast last night, and we swapped two first round picks. One for next year and I believe one for 2030 and we gave them Isaiah Todd. We got three second round picks back. So the podcaster said next years swap is not going to happen. The Grizzlies would have to be in the NBA Finals, and we will likely be in the playoffs, to even make the swap viable, and then it would likely only be a couple spots. So don't worry about next year's pick. It boils down to the 2030 pick swap maybe having some value. The Grizzlies are hoping they are better than us in 2030 to make that swap have meaning. They get Todd, for 3 second round picks, essentially. We drop Todd's salary, and can now use those second round picks to bring our trade exception back into play.

Plus we just moved Todd for future assets. Doesn't this prove Ishbia also has his eye on the future and this franchise is capable of reloading those?!?!

No we moved a 2024 and 2030 swap for assets. Todd has negative value
You are missing the point. Some of us said draft day or draft assets (meaning after they are drafted) could be used in deals for assets or to lower future salary amounts. That's what happened. The three second round picks can then be used later.

Think about it. Before the Suns traded with the Grizzlies, they had no control of their draft picks through 2030.

But some of those were unlikely to minor swaps if at all. Like I said WA and Grizzlies would have to be better than the Suns, and by a lot for us to worry about it all. Even if we were both similar, we are looking at a few spots. To make it really work for the other teams, they would need to be deep NBA playoff teams, and we would have to miss the playoffs and be in the NBA lottery. How we control our picks, is by being in the playoffs every year!

So we have a 1st round pick in next year's draft that will not be lost in this shuffle?

We could only trade every other year in the KD deal. The NBA passed a rule preventing teams from just giving away ALL their first round picks. So I think we have the even year picks. We can't eliminate them, but we can pick swap them. Thus the pick swap in 2030. Also, this makes no sense to me, but the NBA allows you to put multiple pick swaps on one year's pick. Just to make everything even more confusing! LOL!

So the answer to my question is yes?

Yeah, but I don't want to see someone get all happy and then poof, it disappears on draft night.
Like Philly did when they drafted Bridges? I felt sooo bad for his Mom. She literally did lots of interviews that night before the trade was announced.
