He’ll shoot up behind Olu & Alt as OT3 after the season.
There is an argument to be made that as good as Olu and Alt are there is better value for us in moving Paris to LT and drafting a RT further back.
For example, if MHJ and Newton are available. Otherwise I'm not sure anyone else is worth the taking over either of those guys.

Why? I'm not saying he can't show up in the offseason/TC and become such a beast that he forces himself into the lineup, but what gives you this impression now? I'd like us to upgrade the position with a quality starter, not go with a poke and hope strategy. Then, if we can solidify the OL, we can start working young kids in after they've been seasoned a bit more, as the years go along.
Because he's a 4th round pick that's athletic and mobile. I think if he was healthy now he would be starting at LG.
I don't think they sign a vet in FA as it's a pretty weak group so the other option would be to draft a day 2 guard, which they may do. But I think they will still have Gaines with his year with the playbook pencilled in to start going into camp because I don't see them drafting a guard before late round 3 so why would they expect him to start?

Not a reason without good play or reports so glowing from the coaching staff they can't be overlooked. Like "This guy's clearly been a starter from day one" kind of stuff. I mean, he could end up being our next starting LG. I'm not saying that isn't possible. There just isn't reason to anoint him as such at this point.

Pretty sure I didn't argue he was a 4th round pick. What I said of Hayes was that he had a chance in camp based off the quality of guys he was competing against.
What I am saying here is I don't think they draft a guy next year with any expectation of him being better than Gaines. They won't be drafting some Guard from Ole Miss in round 3 and thinking "That's our new LG".
I think they will have in mind that Gaines will take that spot when planning the roster for next year, but of course it comes down to how he does in camp.
I'm not anointing his as such. I'm simply saying that when they sit down and look at the plans for the roster this year I think they will have Gaines in mind to take the LG spot. I don't think they will sign any big name FA (mainly as there are none) and that only leaves the draft, and I don't think they will be looking to draft a G before round 3 at best.

I know there’s been talk of Donovan Jackson, the OG from OSu being a 1st round pick.

Trying hard to drop past teams drafting in Top 5. Unfortunately him and his "team" may be unaware that NFL bylaws prevent active players from owning any interest in a team. NBA and NFL I believe also prohibit active players from team ownership.

This feels like total fake news. It’s a pretty well known fact to just regular fans that this isn’t possible. Caleb and his team thinking otherwise is pretty dubious.

Maybe they plan to challenge it??? Pull a Maurice Clarrett, on a much larger scale??? Or maybe just have the promise of ownership detailed into the contract, for when he retires??? It's super outlandish and I'm sure it looks like bad advice, but I don't think his people are dumb or ill-informed...just probably thinking they can be the pioneers to break the precedent and change the rules.
Regardless...to me it's just another giant red flag to stay away. The Cards are looking for team first players, not me first distractions.
