The weird part is going to be when we trade down with the #1 pick. How many picks are we going to have then? If Monti doesn't hit better than he has so far this year...gonna get ugly quick. I just don't see us adding a bunch in FA.

Does he create separation? Big, contested catch guys always worry me. Doesn't seem to always translate well into the NFL.
You also can't judge "separation guys" coming from college. Top prospects are always playing inferior athletes.

How many teams besides CHI have multiple 2024 firsts? I’m guessing we take a top 5, second, and a 2025 first?

Maybe throw a player in there too? It'll be interesting if this is what transpires. Bears got 2 1s 2 2s and DJ Moore (probably a market value of a 1 or 2?). Granted they traded down to 9 instead of a top 5.

What will the excuses be this time around?

Are you guys talking about draft picks or FA?

I think this is one of our better drafts in years plus we got an additional #1 pick for this year.

Not saying much but it looks like we have two starters from this draft (PJJ and Wilson). That's not going to get you anywhere. That's the baseline. This is on a tanking roster.

Your rationale basically writes off the entire roster...lol You're saying nobody on a 2-15 team means anything.
Not really. It's pretty easy to tell that Michael Wilson can play in this league (if he can stay healthy). I think Demercado can be a backup through this contract (probably a #3 on a good team).

Stills doesn't really do anything. He's not clearly better than L.J. Collier or Leki Fotu. He's a low-salary-cap number on a bad team. He isn't going to be a starter on a playoff team.

If you're not thinking about how a player can fit on the roster of a playoff team, you might have a poverty fan mindset.

It's way to early to assess last year's draft, but it seems more likely that it will turn out to be a very good draft, than a very bad one. We found at least two starters in Johnson and Wilson, and possibly more. Dante Stills, BJ Ojulari, Garrett Williams, K'trel Clark, and Jon Gaines all may yet develop into starters. Time will tell. Throw in the additional number one draft choice we got from Houston and I'd say it's going to ultimately turn out to be a very good draft.

The options aren't only (1) very good draft and (2) very bad one.

Johnson and Wilson look like they could start on a playoff team, but neither looks like a perennial pro bowler.

Ojulari looks like a stiff.

Clark has been benched on a 1-7 team for an undrafted rookie. Williams looks like Clark did five or six weeks ago, so time will tell.

Dante Stills seems to fit in just fine on one of the worst defensive lines in the NFL.

Jon Gaines didn't look like anything in the preseason and is on that Marquis Hayes path.

Look like an average draft, but for a team that isn't much interested in winning it's a tough pill to swallow, because you're not getting ahead of schedule.

Agreed - one of the worst DL's with nobody to help him out (double team). Yet, he is still performing. Sacked Burrow and Jackson.
That is really solid for a 6th round pick IMO.

Huge step forward with this draft plus a #1 pick in 2024. I call it progress.

Too soon to call victory or failure on Dante Stills. Showing that he can play in the NFL is a good step forward for him and a general win.

You have to find 3-5 starters in the next draft to crawl forward if you're not going to keep your better players (Hollywood).

I repeat, it's way too early to assess these players. Time will tell, but I'm betting that at least one of them will develop into a starter within the next two years.

If you only reap three starters from a draft, you never get ahead of the free agents leaving.

I mean, you say it's too early to assess them, and then go ahead and do so.

K9, just a reminder that Stills isn't playing next to Aaron Donald or one of the Bosa'a. In case you forgot.
